Chapter 22: Chapter 22

I squeezed Bobby tightly in my arms. I shielded my body so that Bobby wouldn't be hurt from the crash and he could still live. I closed my eyes, preparing myself when I felt a pair of enormous hands wrapped around my waist. We landed on the ground swiftly. I looked up at Ethan, who was transformed into a complete wolf form before escaping.

"Don't let them get away!"

Ethan was fast, and I realized we were already in the middle of the woods. I look back, peaking from his shoulder to see Allen in front of the porch. Half of his hands were torn off. I looked away from the horrible scene, removing it from my thoughts. Bobby was whimpering and probably, catching my attention. I looked down and saw he was crying.

"What's wrong?" I asked, but Bobby just scooped closer.

"He's afraid," Ethan mumbled, focusing his eyes on the path. His other arm was holding me firmly, afraid to let go.

"You killed Nathan while the authorities were there…." I whispered while staring out of nowhere. This will be probably our last chance to escape from them. Ethan was quick and flexible even with his wounds. If they caught us again, I don't think we will make it alive.

Ethan didn't say anything, but I could tell he was under a lot of pressure. Allen had corned us, and he already knew what we looked like even if we changed our appearances a million times. Allen would make sure to tell the world out there that werewolves are real and they are the ones who will be going to catch Ethan.

I mentally slapped myself for giving Nathan a chance. He fucking doesn't deserve it. He's the monster here! Not his twin! Oh god, because of me, I ruined everything!

"Don't be sorry, Natasha."

I opened my eyes when Ethan spoke. He must have noticed I was a bit gloomy. I pursed my lips, controlling my emotions from erupting like a volcano. Despite all the havoc in our lives, primarily what I had caused, Ethan is willing to forgive me.

"How can I not be sorry if I interfere with the situation earlier. If I didn't-"

"It's not your fault, and it will never be your fault, love." Ethan cut me.

"What's important right now is that we are together. I know I have promised you that no more running away, but this happens." Ethan clenched his jaw, and his eyes suddenly glowed with tears. I cup his face, wiping off the tears so he can still see clearly. He smiled a little at my gesture.

"I should have listened to you in the first place. If I didn't go out there alone, Nathan wouldn't strike his attack and catch me." his voice broke down, getting frustrated with our situation.

I embrace him, wrapping my arms around his neck and resting my forehead on his fur. I get it. We all have our flaws and mistakes but what's important is that none of us are dead, and they haven't caught us. This chase is getting sick already, but I know how the system works here.

I can still remember how thirsty Allen is with the justice he's saying. He was controlling himself earlier, maintaining his composure. Still, if it were just the three of us, he had already slaughtered Ethan.

"Duck!"

"What? What duck-"

Ethan covered my head with his tremendous hands, protecting me from the shots I heard. I glanced between his armpit to see Allen's minions chasing after us! They have dogs ready to bite off with their large and pointy teeth. I tapped Ethan's shoulder, telling him to go faster!

"Ethan! They are catching up!" I yelled and covered bobby so he couldn't get shoot. Bobby barked in response, but he trembled when he heard another series of gunshots. Dogs like him are sensitive to loud noise, and the stress could kill them! We need to get out of here quickly!

"Hold on!" Ethan exclaimed before running with his hands. I wrapped my legs around his torso and held in tightly on his neck so I wouldn't fall. The trees beside us got shot with bullets, and if Ethan isn't flexible enough o dodge those bullets, our lives will put an end here.

My eyes caught something beside me, and I saw a dog running closer, leveling Ethan's speed. My eyes widened in horror when the dog jumped, ready to bite us, when Ethan ducked his upper body, dodging the dog. The dog rolled on the ground but stood up once again. Those dogs were trained to kill people!

I know Ethan was fighting himself to not scratch the poor animals since they are trained, and the authorities have the full responsibility! Ethan turned right, going straight to the highway.

"They are heading towards the highway! I repeat, they are going to the highway!" I heard one of the soldier's reports.

"Ethan! I think it's not best to go there. Authorities are swarming the area!"

Ethan didn't say anything, but he was still heading straight there. I looked back, and I noticed that only five of them were chasing us. Compared to earlier, there were a bunch of them. Some of them went straight to the highway to block our path there, and these three remained to chase us.

"Ethan!" I called his name, tapping his arms wrapped around my body when he suddenly ran over the large boulder of rock and then flipped through the air. When the soldiers catch up, where is our spot? Before, he gave them a kick on their faces successively before dropping smoothly.

My jaw almost hit the ground when I saw them fall down, unconscious. Ethan hurriedly turned left, going in another direction.

"Where are we going?!" I asked, looking back to make sure they were still passed out. Ethan did not say anything, but I could see the fear in his eyes. He was worried we might get cornered.

"Ethan…' I called his name again, and he glanced down at me, smiling.

"Don't worry, I'm going to get us out of here-"

As if time had slowed down, Ethan suddenly dropped me on the ground when he got shot on his right foot. Ethan let out an animalistic growl of pain while clenching his foot that was injured.

I lay there, processing what just happened. Bobby was barking and crying while looking at his Daddy, who couldn't stand up. I yelled his name, but I also couldn't;t move since my feet were numb and my knees were bleeding. I parted my lips, trying to breathe, when we heard another gunshot, but it was more blaring this time. Ethan quickly pushed himself to crawl next to me, wrapping his arms around my head to shield himself.

"T-they have a riffle," he said.

"N-no…" I shook my head in horror. We need to get up and run away!

"E-Ethan!" I gritted my teeth when I tried to sit up from the ground, but Ethan did not let me. When I looked at him, his eyes were hooded and weak. A tear escaped from my eyes when I saw how hopeless we were.

"There's no use…" he grumbled and dropped to the ground. I heard heavy footsteps rushing towards our way, and when I looked up, I saw Allen with his dogs chasing us! He held a rifle even though his other hand was torn in half!

"Ethan, please, I know we can still make it." I tried to push him to stand up, but he didn't move from his spot. When I looked at his feet, it was swollen, and there was a hole. His bone was evident. I closed my eyes, crying and hyperventilating from what was happening. Oh god, what should I do?

"Give up now, Ethan! Surrender yourself to us!" I heard Allen's voice echo throughout the whole forest. After loading the magazine, he positioned his rifle and pointed its scope at us. I panicked and looked around the area, searching for something to help us. There is nothing!

"Natasha!" he shouted my name, and I stood up, pulling Ethan's arms even though my knees were wobbling. I am not going to give up here! Ethan can be killed once they catch us, and I will be put into prison! My conscience would not let me live if I lived a life without Ethan, and I did not do anything to prevent this.

"W-what are you doing, Natasha?" he asked, looking exhausted, but I did not say anything. Bobby barked, telling him to get up.

I smiled and pushed myself to move forward. They are getting closer, and I will not let them capture the man who gave me a purpose in my life.

"N-Natasha, please, stop…I can't-"

"Yes, you can, Ethan! I believe in you! We can still make it out here alive and away from their sight! Please, I need you, Ethan! I need you to live and find your happiness! I still want to fulfill my duty as your girlfriend, wife, and soulmate! Please…listen to me…."

Ethan was lost for words, and Allen was about to catch us. I closed my eyes, wincing and pulling him since he's heavier than me, when I felt him standing up. I glanced at Ethan, who wrapped his hands around my waist, pulling me closer.

"Let's run away, together," he growled before running. We heard another shot of riffle, but Ethan quickly dodged it.

I looked back and saw that we had already lost sight of them. I sighed in relief.

"That was close-" Ethan stopped in his tracks, and when I turned around to see what was going on, my heart dropped.

"N-no…"

We reach the end of the forest and in front of us is a massive fall. I looked down at the stream, and it was high enough to make my vision spin.

"Give up, Ethan."

We both looked at Allen, who caught up on his comrade behind him and us.
