Chapter 20: Chapter 20
“Ethan!” I cried when he dropped to the floor, unconscious. There was a hole on his back, and blood was dripping down on the floor. My hands were quivering when I tried to hold him. His eyes were shut firmly. I shook my head, dropping my head on his chest to hear if it was still beating. My eyes narrowed when I heard nothing.
N-no…
“Come with me, Natasha.”
I saw a pair of shoes stop before me. I paused from what I was doing to look at his eyes. He has no soul left in his ungodly ones. I gritted my teeth when he dared to offer my hands, anticipating taking his offer. I snarled and slowly stood up from my spot, clenching my hands.
“How dare you shoot down your own brother?!” I wailed, then smacked his hands away. I don’t care if he had a gun. He killed Ethan! He killed my husband!
Nathan’s brows knitted into a straight line, confused with my sudden attitude shift. He must have noticed that I didn’t buy what he had done, so he stood up straight, fixing his composure.
“I see. You would rather be with someone who killed thousands of innocent lives than me who just shot him once,” he mumbled while nodding, understanding completely.
“Ethan was a victim of your abusive family! You and your idiotic parents made him a monster! You treated him like he was not part of your family and made him live far away from your site to get rid of him! Who’s the fucking monster here?!”
Nathan’s eyes widened, but he tightened his jaw.
“All he wanted from your family was approval! He wants to be part of your life, but you fucking pushed him away! Ethan doesn’t deserve any of those treatments at a young age. That’s why he pushed himself to be like that! To kill and be destructive! He likes suffering! You only see the darkness inside him! Good thing I was here. I saw his light! I reached into it, shaping it and guiding him to find his purpose again!”
I took a step forward, pushing his chest. Nathan was shocked when I did this. He grumbled and tried to fight back, but he couldn’t. When I corned him on the wall, I shouted.
“He changed Utahan. Your twin changed for the better. Sorry, it won’t resolve things. That’s why he found a way to break his curse and live with us in normal life.” I exclaimed, closing my eyes when a tear streamed down my cheek. I wiped it away.
“Please, give him the chance to.”
He suddenly grabbed me on my collar, pulling me closer and strangling me. I panted and tried to fight it back, but it was hopeless. I winced when he lifted me up on the ground using his one hand until our faces were leveled. His baleful eyes were agaze, wanting to snap my body in half. I must have triggered him. He tightened his grip around my neck, making me gag for air.
“So you do love him, huh?! Is that how you easily replaced me?!” he shook my body, and I could feel my feet shaking from terror. I closed my eyes and prayed that he would let go of me and let me live even if I knew that was impossible.
“You’re such a slut for hitting two birds with one stone! I don’t even know why I dated you before or considered you my girl! If I can’t have you, you don’t deserve to live!”
He pointed the gun at my face, and I closed my eyes since I couldn’t breathe properly anymore. I anticipated him to pull the trigger, ending my life when the ground below us shook its core from the vibration. We heard an alarming rumble that made the hair of our skin stand up. Nathan dropped me to the ground. I coughed and caressed my neck. When I looked up, I saw him taking a step back while his gun was pointed behind me.
I slowly turned around to see what was going on. I automatically gasped in a stupor to see Ethan standing while his eyes were shooting daggers at his twin. I thought he was dead.
He stepped forward, and his feet suddenly shifted to his wolf form. My jaw hit almost the ground with what just happened. Nathan was panicking beside, not knowing what to do. He pulled the trigger, hitting Ethan with the bullet, but quickly dodged it.
“You said his curse was broken?!” Nathan shouted.
“It is!” I shouted back. The pressure was resurfacing. I don’t understand! How does his curse suddenly come back? What’s happening? Every step he made, he was changed into his wolf form. When Ethan completely transformed, he grabbed Nathan and lifted him up on the ground with no sweat.
Ethan let out an animalistic growl before attacking. Good thing I already jumped in before he could kill Nathan. I don’t want him to have another burden in his life!
“Ethan! Stopped!” I embraced him, burying my face in his chest, but he tried to reach him. I glanced at Nathan, who dropped to the ground. His eyes were full of atrocity. He gulped before looking at me.
“Go! I’ll take care of him!” I yelled, but Nathan didn’t listen to me. He stood up, leaning on the wall but pointing the gun at his twin.
“Say good night, you piece of shit-”
“Ethan!” I quickly blocked my body, and the bullet went into my waist. I dropped to the floor, crawling on the pain sensation. Ethan saw this, and he went livid. I tried to stop him, but it was already too late. He caught his twin smashing his body on the wall multiple times.
I yelled and pleaded to make him top, but he did not listen to me. You could tell he was persistent in killing his twin! Ethan was growling and howling in pure menace until he was satisfied enough to stop. Nathan dropped, and I couldn’t recall who he was at this instance. I opened my mouth to say something, but Ethan grabbed his twin’s jaw, angling Nathan’s face to look at him.
“I’m going to kill you!” Ethan screech. His fangs showed, and he snarled at him. His eyes were bloodshot red, and he was about to claw his face when we heard sirens coming from above us.
My eyes knitted together when Nathan laughed mockingly, and humor was apparent in his eyes. I glanced at Ethan, who was also befuddled.
“E-even if you kill me right now…” he coughed, and a liquid of blood gushed down on his side lips. Nathan slowly raised his finger to point it above us. I paused, listening to the series of sirens and heavy footsteps. When I realized what it was, my heart pounded painfully.
No…it can’t be…
“You’re already too late!”
Ethan dropped him to the ground. His eyes were filled with terror. He quickly glanced at me and carried me. He strides the stairs to get out of the basement, but we hear voices from the door.
“You’re completely surrounded!”
Ethan cursed under his breath. His panicky eyes were looking around to find another way to get out of this place. Ethan locked the doors and carefully dropped me on the floor to block the entryway. I shrieked when they kicked the door open to the other side, pushing themselves to get inside and capture Ethan!
“You’re going to die here with me!” I heard Nathan behind me, and I could not help but cross the gap between us even though I couldn’t stand straight. I kicked his face and kneeled down.
“Did you call the cops?!” I whispered, and Nathan just laughed it off. I cursed before kicking him again, and this time, he ultimately passed out. This jerk! We gave him a chance earlier, but he blew it up!
“Ethan!” I whispered his name when he took a step back, completely blocking the pathway with boxes and objects. However, how are we going to escape this place?
Ethan was looking around, looking for an area to go through. I flinched when they repeatedly kicked the door open. Oh god, what are we going to do? Are we going to die here?
“Up here!”
I looked up and saw there was a vent there. Ethan quickly lifted my body, opening the vent with his enormous hands and pushing me inside. It could only fit one person! How is he going to fit here?
“How about you?!” I yelled, and I offered my hand. I am not going anywhere without him!
“I have another plan. Just wait for me in our room! Go with Bobby!” he exclaimed, pushing my hands to the side.
I pursed my lips, a tear escaping from my eyes. I shook my head while restraining my sobs, but Ethan beamed at me, caressing my face slightly.
“I promise I’ll get back to you,” he mumbled before pushing my whole body inside the vent and closing it. I wanted to protest, but Ethan signaled me to move forward. I don’t have any other choice but to keep going. I wiped off the tears to see clearly on my path. I heard voices coming from my back, and I closed my eyes firmly when I listened to a series of gunshots.
I covered my mouth to stop myself from crying before finally reaching the end of the vent. I pushed the vent hole and escaped from there. I quickly looked around the area to check if the coast was clear. No one was around. I hurriedly stood up and went to our room.
I was relieved when I got here safely. I unlocked the door and saw Bobby was there waiting for me. I was about to embrace him, but I winced in pain when I felt the sting of the bullet on my skin.
Bobby was crying, and good thing Nathan didn’t do anything to him. I sighed in relief and stroked his head.
“Let’s wait for Daddy here-” we both stopped, frozen in our spot when we heard someone was twisting the door knob. I quickly placed Bobby behind me, waiting for the attacker.
This is it. You have to fight it, Natasha!
