Chapter 69: Chapter 69
It was something we couldn't imagine that also exists, not just for Ethan. Its claws are sharp, gleaming, and enormous. It gradually crawled on our way. Its eyes are menacing while salivating, ready to go for a hunt. We took a step backed, and Ethan was prepared to attack. I looked at him, shaking my head because I thought the fight overflight was the answer.
"E-ethan...I think we need to get out of here." I whispered, tugging on his shirt. I saw Charm beside me was trembling in the pure spectacle. She was ready to run away and never look back from this place since the creature they were hiding in this deserted shack.
Ethan was in a fury. I could see the fire in his eyes, ready to flame the region. However, I also see puzzlement and stupefaction, wanting to know answers from Charm, who was stunned. Before we could run, the creature stood up and then attacked us.
"Run! Run for your lives!" Charm shrieked in trepidation, then ran away. Ethan wrapped his hands around my body and then fleed through mid-air, dodging the onslaught coming from the other werewolf.
Good thing Ethan quickly avoided it, but when its eyes landed on Charm, the beast followed her. Ethan dropped to the ground but didn't let go of me. We followed the beast sprinting to Charm just to catch her. My heart was revving and not in its normal rhythm.
"We need to help her!"
Ethan didn't say anything. He was still lost in his own thoughts while watching the other wolf. I slapped him on his chest, forcing him to look at me.
"Ethan!"
That's when he bursts back into reality. Ethan dropped to his knees and then changed into his wolf form to catch up with them. I was rooted in my spot, not moving a muscle, so I followed them around. I clamored when Ethan quickly caught up to the beast, then they rolled on the ground, fighting and exchanging claws. I walked to Charm's side and then embraced her tightly. She was crying when I held her hand.
"Shhh! I'm here." I told her, motioning everything was going to be alright.
"Why you didn't tell us there's another werewolf?" I asked her, shocked. So that's what they were hiding in the shack. We really thought Charm was the suspicious one or his granddad. However, the latter had died.
I don't know what to do or think anymore. All of this is leading to something we couldn't imagine would happen. In front of us is another wolf. I really thought Ethan was the only wolf that only exists in this generation.
"Why didn't you tell me your husband was a cursed wolf too?"
My forehead creased in confusion. I parted my lips, but something pushed me to my back before I could say anything, making me groan in pain, then dropped to the ground. Charm shrieked and was about to help me when she was also pushed, causing her to flee away from the impact and then crash on the large tree. She sank, losing consciousness.
"Charm!" I raised my hand, subsiding the pain I felt. I crawled away, but then something stood on my back. I coughed, then winced, trying to oppose back, but it was useless. I glanced from my shoulder just to see the other wolf standing. Its eyes are blazing with anger. Its fangs are shown wanting to consume me. It let out an animalistic groan before it dropped its total weight on my body.
I gasped for air, screaming and crying for help. I searched for Ethan around the area since I couldn't see him. Where did he go?! What did this creature do to him?! Once again, I huffed when the beast stopped again on my back. It was rough and perilous, especially since my back was stitched from the bullet.
"P-please...help me...!" I coughed, and blood gushed down my mouth. My vision became blurry, and suddenly, I couldn't think straight clearly. I prayed silently, begging to survive even though I was useless since I couldn't fight back.
"E-ethan..." I dropped my hands to the ground, entirely futile to move. The werewolf snarled and then sniffed my body. I felt its pointy teeth tracing my back neck. I sense his claws, ready to slash me. I waited for something to happen, but the pain in my back suddenly lightened, and I heard another series of scoring and hollering. I wanted to look back, but I was too weak to move my head. I panted, catching my breath.
I glanced at Charm, who was still unconscious in her place. I shouted, calling her name. I didn't stop there until she woke up.
"Charm!"
I heard a loud growl behind me. The voice went feeble and had a hint of melancholy. I moved and got up, my hands shaking, and I turned to see what was already happening. It was as if cold water had been sprayed on me, and I was suddenly anguished when I realized how Ethan battered his opponent. I want to throw up everything I eat. It is not pleasing in my sight.
It's horrifying.
I was witnessing how he slaughtered the wolf.
"NO!"
I saw Charm rushing towards Ethan's way in just a blink, running past by to my side. She punched and kicked Ethan's tail, protesting and begging to stop. However, Ethan was lost in his own world, and I couldn't recognize him anymore.
"Stop! That's my twin sister you are killing! This is your only way to break the curse!" Charm screamed and suddenly fell to the floor, tugging at her own hair in exasperation.
Ethan stopped, gradually looking her way. His eyes widened in astonishment. Despite the ache, I took this time to stand up and then went to the other wolf's way to check on her. I gasped, closing my eyes, tugging on Ethan's fur. I couldn't handle what I saw. This will give me nightmares.
"What do you mean?" Ethan suddenly shifted to his average body. Charm didn't say anything. She was grieving the loss of her sister, whom Ethan killed without a sweat. Tears escape from my eyes because I can still hear the cries and wails coming from Charm. She was devastated, and she couldn't compose herself, even if how many times we would soothe her.
"Tell us everything you know!"
Ethan lost his composure again since Charm doesn't mind us. Before I could stop Ethan, he grabbed Charm from her shoulders and lifted her up from the ground with his strength. He snarled at her. His face was frightening and dreadful at sight. I run then to their side, shaking his arms to stop. He didn't listen!
"Stopped mind gaming with us! Tell us the truth! What is going on here?! I'm not the only wolf?!" Ethan looked so desperate to know the truth. My tears didn't stop while watching what was happening to us. Everything feels so heavy and hopeless all of a sudden.
Charm didn't stop crying until she realized something since her expression changed. Her eyes went livid, and she tried to attack Ethan, who leaned her away against him while holding on to the back of her shirt. Charm can't even do anything with her fragile hands.
"Tell us!" Ethan screamed, his voice echoing throughout the whole zone. I gulped, statued on my feet. I gazed at Charm, whose eyes looked dead while looking at Ethan. She didn't say anything for a while. While anticipating her answer, I took the courage to walk toward her. Ethan blocked me, shaking his head. Telling me it is not a good idea to come forward.
I gripped his hand. My eyes were begging him to let me. However, before we could even proceed, Charm suddenly spoke.
"My sister, Chanel, was a half-werewolf. When she was born, our mother didn't treat her well. I was there. I saw how she abused my twin. Our own mother wanted her to die because she was born differently."
Charm trembled. Her eyes are full of fear, reminiscing what had happened before in their lives. Ethan and I were speechless and couldn't even know how to respond. I felt a sharp forte pierce through my heart, making a fatal blow, leading to fatality. It was heartbreaking to see her looking like this and what fucks up is that we couldn't do anything.
"So she decided to hide her in the shack for years, telling me I shouldn't go near her. Granddad was against my mother's acts, but he couldn't do anything. However, unexpected things happened. Granddad and my Mom had a terrible fight until granddad accidentally killed her. The police found out about these and took him despite his age and sickness..."
Charm watched us, her eyes were begging us, but I couldn't understand what she wanted to pray for.
"I was left alone, inside the cabin. I was dumbfounded, depressed, and desperate. I went to my sister and researched how to find a cure for the curse."
Charm ingested the lump in her throat, then parted her quivering lips. I grabbed her hand and then caressed it, motioning to her that everything would be okay. Charm slowly looked at me. Her eyes were full of hopes even though she had lost everything.
"The only way to break the curse is to get the blood from the other wolf, then they both drink it under the full moon."
Charm glanced at Ethan. Her eyes were saying something.
"But you killed her. Both of you need to be alive to break it. That is the only way to bring yourselves back to your normal state. My sister lost her sanity because of how our mother treated her. It isn't normal to be born a wolf. This is what I have learned while doing my research." Charm looked down at the ground. I saw she clenched her hand.
"But all of my efforts have gone wasted. This was your only hope, but you destroyed it!"
