Chapter 68: Chapter 68
I almost dropped my heart and screamed in panic when I looked behind. I saw Nato standing right behind me. His narrowing eyes were telling me something. He was eyeing me carefully, asking why I was here and what am I doing here at the back of the cabin. I silently gulp, not knowing what to do or say.
He gradually walked up to my side. I was forced to let go of the door, stepping away from it. I gasped when Nato held my hand and then yanked me closed to him. Since I was still wounded, I winced when I felt the strike of discomfort on my back because he was vicious when he tugged me.
I thought he had a heart attack? Why does he look so particularly assertive?
"What are you doing here outside? You should be inside the cabin." there was a hint of panic in his voice. He clutched his chest tightly while guiding me out of the old shack I discovered. Even though I wanted to protest it, I felt like I should listen to him this time. Also, I noticed he was losing breath.
"Are you okay?" I asked, then tried to catch him because he lost his balance. He waved off his hand in dismissal, then nodded.
"I'm fine. Let's just get inside." Nato exclaimed, then pried away from his hands from me, walking alone to the cabin. I sighed and then just watched him. I had no other choice since he pushed me away. I glanced behind me, looking one last time at the shack. I know I felt like something was inside there, and I know curiosity can extinguish me.
I soughed and then looked back ahead to see Nato's body on the ground, not moving. My eyes broadened, and my body froze in stupefaction. I waited for him to move or scream for help. My mind told me he just stepped on something he didn't notice, but minutes have passed on he is still not moving. I panicked and then rushed to his side, even if I was suffering inside.
I kneeled to his side, shaking his shoulder and trying to wake him up. However, it was no use. My fingers were shaking uncontrollably when I tried to check his pulse. I felt all of the blood on my face pour down on the cold floor when I felt no beat. My whole body trembled in tremendous fear.
"N-nato?" I called his name, trying to shrug off the horror I discern. He didn't move nor say anything. I tapped lightly on his cheeks until I did not realize it was getting violent. I was desperate to shake him, to wake him up, but no vail.
"Oh god..." my lips quivered when I tried to help him wrap his arms around my shoulder. It happened so quickly that the wires in my brain intertwined. It was hard to dismantle.
I brought him interior the cabin and gradually put him down on the lush bed where I start with rest within the night here. I didn't mind the agony I was feeling. I looked around, searching for something that would present help me. In any case, it was futile. They have nothing else in here that would help Nato.
I have no other choice but to do it manually. My hands were shaking inadequately when I tried to pump unto Nato's chest to control his breathing. I did not stop until my hands were strained. I scuffed a breath and then did it over and over. I tilted my head on his chest, wanting to hear his heartbeat. A tear escaped from my eyes, and it dropped on his chest when I listened to no hope.
"N-no...what am I going to do?" I whispered. Ethan and Charm aren't here yet, and I do not know what Charm's reaction might be when she finds out that her granddad is already dead. I stood up and then calmed my nerves, trying to ease out the tension I was fumbling.
I slowly shrank down on the floor, massaging my temples. I waited for Ethan and Charm to get home, but until night came, they hadn't returned. I was about to stand up when I heard something.
I didn't mind at first, since I thought it was just a rat scattering around the area looking for a fare, but when I heard it for the second time, it was not there inside the cabin. I slowly glanced outside the door. It coming from outside.
I gulped, then stood up, taking my time. I looked back at Nato, who was not breathing anymore, and it suddenly creeped me out when I saw his face getting pale each second.
"E-ethan? Where are you?" he told me that he would come back soon. I almost ran to the door just to get out. I took a deep breath and endured the pain I was feeling in my back. When I stepped my foot outside, I looked for the sound where it was coming from. I was beginning to think it was just part of my hallucinations when my eyes suddenly landed on the shack at the back of the cabin.
I gulped the lump in my throat. Something was telling me that I shouldn't meddle with was inside of that shack. However, something was also whispering inside my head that I should go and look into it. I looked back from the cabin. It felt like something was watching me. I shrugged off the thought away and then continued to walk to the shed.
I felt something strange when I approached the shed. It was as if someone was eyeing me even though I knew there was nothing. I bit my tongue when I ceased in my tracks. I turned around before I slowly removed some leaf branches blocking the door. When I finally released a few strands of leaves, I took a step back, watching from my spot.
After a few minutes of watching, I jumped out of my spot and felt as if cold water had been poured on me when I heard something rustling right inside of it.
My eyes dilated from dread, not knowing what to do. I looked around. No one will stop me from opening the door. However, I was contemplating since what if something perilous inside was lingering for me? The rustling intensified, and the scratches coming inside went wild. I took a step back, and the sweat on my forehead gushed down my cheeks.
I raised my hand, gradually lifting it up to touch the door. Something was telling me I should run for it once the door opened. However, another voice whispered that I should take a peek to quench my thirst for curiosity. My hand reached the knob. It was fluttering with horror.
"Natasha!"
I shrieked in shock when I turned around to see Charm and Ethan running. I didn't know why but when I saw Charm, I suddenly didn't know how to face her and tell her the terrible news about her granddad. I looked at the ground, ashamed even though I knew I was not guilty of doing a crime.
"What are you doing here?" I heard her voice shaken when she found out I was in front of the shack. I didn't know where my tongue went.
I felt Ethan go to my side then he embraced me. When I looked up at him, I saw the rage in his eyes. I couldn't understand why he was mad. He suddenly put me behind him, shielding his body to protect me from Charm, whose brows were knitted in a straight line, confused by his action.
"E-Ethan?" he was bewildered but couldn't put it into straight words.
"Be honest, Charm. What are you hiding from us? Are you planning to kill us just because you brought us here?" Ethan suddenly burst out, causing my eyes to widen in a stunner. He gritted his jaw, and I saw his claws flaunt, endangering to slash Charm, and he wasn't afraid.
"Ethan..." I tried to stop him because we could reasonably discuss this. I could sense the fear in Charm's eyes as she backed away, not understanding anything about any of these.
"I don't understand..." Charm's voice trailed off, then she suddenly looked my way. Her eyes were questioning me.
"Where's granddad? How did you know this place?" her eyes gleamed. A tear was trying to escape from it. She wanted to know answers as she felt something was off. She was desperate, like how her eyes reflected from us.
"C-charm..." my voice weakened when I tried to speak. Ethan glanced at me, his expression softening when he saw how troubled I was.
"I'm so sorry, Charm." I dropped to the ground, begging for her to listen to me and what I would say was nothing but the truth.
"I tried to save him! I did my best to bring him back! But nothing I had done! I didn't do anything, Charm! Believe me when I say I am innocent! I was there when I saw him dropped on the ground and-"
"Y-you mean, granddad is dead?"
A long, deafening silence enveloped the three of us. The brutal blow of wind caressed my face, and the grasses and leaves from the cold ground blew away, making the atmosphere gloomy as it had been.
I didn't say anything, but my silence said it all. Charm gasped, making me look up to see her eyes widen in pure horror. What was confusing was that she was looking behind us as if she had seen something that shouldn't exist in the first place.
"No, you let him escape..." Charm whispered, taking a step back.
I didn't understand what she meant by that. I looked at Ethan, who also looked at our back, and his eyes suddenly shifted to his ominous werewolf gazes. Before I could comprehend what was going to happen, he suddenly lifted me up from the ground just before something slashed me.
I looked behind us, and what I saw was something that made my heart skip.
