Chapter 39: Chapter 39

The bikers and I look at each other with each flabbergasted looks. I wanted to slap myself, unsusceptible to comprehend what was going on. The guy took many pictures with Ethan, entertained and low-key fancying. I let out a distrustful clarion utterance of annoyance. Ethan was just watching the man, either considering slaughtering him or not.

“Man! These are so cool! Anyway, I’m going to get back to work. Catch you afterward, my dude.” he winked at Ethan, then pointed his two fingers at him, squirming his eyebrows. We all watched him get inside the store, looking over through his phones, probably editing the pictures as his souvenir. A deafening blasting hush filled the entire area. I flickered, then looked at the bikers who also looked at me.

“So, what now?” they asked, and I shrugged my shoulders.

We looked at each other before Ethan let out a blistering howl, making the ground shake somewhat. The bikers cursed and then pushed each other, rushing to get out of his sight. They quickly went to their vehicles, turning on the engine soaring away.

“The police will know about this!” one of them yelled before going away. Ethan was about to follow them. His claws were ready to hunt when he abruptly looked my way when I moaned in so much torment.

“E-Ethan!” I cried whereas looking down at my thighs. My eyes extended in fear when the stream of blood didn’t stop. I couldn’t get up and walk. It’s like I’m immobilized on the ground. I tried to move, but it made me lose my sense of bearing and much pain. My vision is spinning, making me lose consciousness.

“N-Natasha…” I heard his voice tremble next to me. I slowly look his way to see him change back to his standard human frame. He’s half bare, uncovering his enormous and carved body muscles, looking like a god before me. He looks down at me. His eyes are frantically looking at my situation. He looks panic-stricken, incapable of moving a muscle. I saw the bulk in his neck bobbed up and down as he continuously tried to put my head on his lap.

“Ethan, w-what’s happening to me?” I cried. The tears are running down my cheeks. The coarse voicelessness of the wind blew in my ears, and my hair winged to my face. I felt his firm grasp wrapped around my body, gradually lifting me up. I heard his heart buffeting so fast as if it’s almost to burst out of his rib cage.

“I-I’m going to find some help don’t-Natasha?! Natasha!”

My vision is getting dim, my eyes slowly closing. I looked up at Ethan, who was saying something. He was shouting while shaking and tapping my cheeks, but I couldn’t take it anymore. I kept in mind his disquieted and troubled look before I went blank.

I opened my eyes, looking around the area if where am I. My brows wrinkled in disarray when I saw there was no one around, not even a single soul in this forlorn room. I figured the area. However, I’m confused to know where Ethan is.

“Hello?” my voice reverberated in each corner. I was approximate to move to induce out of the bed when I felt something was streaming on my thighs. I slowly looked down at the blanket that was covering my lower body. For some unknown reason, I’m frightened to look at it. Then, I swallowed the knot in my throat and held the sheet to uncover my body. I could feel the colors on my confront had drained down, and my body went rigid. I couldn’t move a muscle. What appeared before I had traumatized me until my death.

It’s an unborn child that’s been pushed out forcefully. A pool of blood was covering the whole cover. My lips parted and trembled, especially when the child slowly looked up at me. Its mouth is open. The gooey substance was staying out of its mouth. I wanted to move and scream boisterous, but I couldn’t. What’s happening to me?

“W-why you didn’t spare me, mommy?” his squeaky voice banged in my ears. A tear got away from my eyes, streaming down my cheeks. I shook my head. This can’t be…

“W-what?” it’s all that I can say. It didn’t say anything. Instead, it slithered its way up to my face. This time, I was screaming. Each step it makes clears a mark of its substantial liquid footprint on my body. When it halted before my confront, it held both of my cheeks. The baby is crying. Its eyes shrill through my soul.

“Mommy, why? Do you hate me? Am I not worthy of being your child? Is it because my father is a monster?” then it screamed so loud. I closed my eyes, begging for this to stop.

“Mommy! How could you?!”

“No! I didn’t mean to! It was an accident!” I was pleading for it to forgive me. It was not my fault! We got attacked! Oh god, I didn’t know!

“I’m sorry!” I jolted up from the bed. My chest is rising and falling each time. I could feel the sweat that shaped in my temple, and my pulsation was accelerating as if I had run a marathon. I gasped for air, looking down at my body. I remove the cover. There’s no unborn child. There’s no blood. Everything looks ordinary. I hurled out a murmur and then looked around the room, the same area I saw in my dreams.

It’s a nightmare, which is to my comfort. It felt so real. My entire body is still shuddering. The door abruptly opened, and a doctor came in. He was composing something on his paper when he looked up, assessing my situation. A nurse was behind him, following him.

“We heard loud commotions. Are you alright?” he worriedly asked, and I nodded. I smiled awkwardly, then looked around the room again, searching for Ethan.

“I just had a nightmare, actually. There’s an unborn child on my body calling me Mommy.” I chuckled humorlessly, then scratched the back of my head.

“Have you seen my husband? The one who brought me here?”

I noticed the doctor and the nurse was frozen on their spot. They looked at each other as if they were the as could get what they were trying to tell through their eyes. The nurse broke the contact and came to my side, checking my pulse. As she was doing her work, I didn’t break my gaze at the doctor, who let out a long sighed then took off his glasses. He squeezed the bridge of his nose, incapable of replying to my question.

“Ahm…what’s with the long awkward silence? Where’s my husband?” my voice broke, but I manage to compose myself.

“About your condition, Ma’am, I have to be honest with you.”

“Okay?” my throat went dry as I held up for him to announce what happened. He presses his tongue and then looks at me straight into my eyes. Suddenly, I couldn’t move on my spot, and my breathing hitched. Which is difficult for me to catch a little air.

“You were pregnant when you were brought here. We tried to save the baby, but unfortunately….”

A long silence filled the room because he couldn’t proceed with what he was supposed to say even though I had an idea of what he was beseeching all about. My vision went hazy, and something wound sharply through my heart, making it incomprehensible for me to breathe correctly. I tried to make a face, trying to ease the intense air encompassing our area.

“Unfortunately?” I asked casually. The nurse held my hand and then caressed it. I didn’t look at her. My attention was glued to the doctor in front.

“Your baby didn’t survive, only you who made it.”

“After your husband found out about it, he quickly left this room and hasn’t returned for a while.” the nurse continued.

After hearing those words from him, everything snapped. My mind went blank, my body stiffened, and my vision was obscured due to my tears streaming non-stop. I chuckled, trying to set aside the idea that we would have a child, but it was taken away. This can be all just a dream. I sulk on my bed, covering my body with the blanket.

“I’m still dreaming….” I told them. I look at my bear, trying to give them a warm smile. However, they gave me a concerned look as if they felt so sorry for me. I didn’t say anything. I just closed my eyes, pressing my brain that I should wake up living an everyday life with Ethan.

However, every time I open my eyes, I am back to the same nightmare, but this time it's reality.
