Chapter 45: Chapter 45
Michael and George squeezed themselves past the small crowd in the house where George has been invited to a party by one of his friends.
The house is filled with a lot of boys and girls and is very noisy as well.
They could see a couple of students smooching, either standing in a corner or on the sofa, not minding that there are other people in the house with them.
It was supposed to be a simple house party Michael thought, he never expected a lot of people to attend an after graduation party hosted by just one student, it was as if half of the students who graduated yesterday from their school is in attendance and wondered how much money the guy throwing the party must have spent to accommodate these number of people.
They stopped a few times to say hi to some of the guys and girls known to them from school.
“Did he invite all the graduates from school?” Michael asked George as they walked to a corner of the house where a long large table was to get themselves drinks, his gaze moving from one corner of the house to the other.
“You mean Bob?” George asked, after seeing the expression on Michael’s face.
“Yeah.” He replied nodding his head and still looking around the house.
“Bob is sociable you know.” George told Michael, now glancing around the place himself.
There are so many drinks with different labels on the table, some guys are there as well serving drinks into disposable cups for those who care to have some. Michael and George took a cup each and went on, in search of Bob.
George stopped briefly to ask someone about Bob. “Where is Bob?” He asked, his voice a little high because of the loud music and the noise coming from the guests.
“He’s out back, in the pool area.” The person replied still moving, his voice a little high as well.
“Okay, thanks.” He replied, shouting on top of his voice so the person could hear him.
“How did he get the money to throw such a party, isn’t this house his parents’ house?” Michael asked George again, seeing that pairs of couples are going in and out of the rooms as they walked out back to the pool area.
The house is a very big one, it’s a one story building and the swimming pool at the back is quiet big, Michael could see a lot of people outside too at the swimming pool area, some are already in a swimsuit either swimming or hanging around the pool, whereas others are just seated on the chairs chatting, drinking, smoking, or doing whatever pleases them.
“This house is a gift from his dad to him you see and as for the money, his parents are quite rich so I am sure it won't be a problem you know, Bob is living an extravagant life style that's how he came to have so many friends.” George explained to Michael who listened with his eyes wandering around the place.
George had called him up this afternoon, asking him if he can accompany him to his friend’s house party which he agreed to because he does not have much to do sitting at home besides they are through with school he thought. He wasn't expecting a large party such as this one.
“There he is.” George told Michael pointing to Bob’s direction, gesturing for Michael to follow him.
He and some of his guests are sitting around a table in a corner by the pool drinking and smoking, there's a girl sitting on his lap too.
“Hey Bob.” George said as they walked up to their table, he extended his hand to Bob who took it.
“Hey George, you made it.” Bob said as he shook George's hand and also Michael's hand as he introduced him to Bob.
Michael was taken aback a little when he saw the face of the girl sitting on Bob’s lap.
“Hello Mike.” Brenda said extending her hand to Michael who took it and replied her, and tried to look normal since he was not expecting to see her.
“You too know each other?” Bob asked, looking from Brenda to Michael.
“Yeah we do, he helped me some time ago when some guys were harassing me at a party.” Brenda said immediately to Bob winking an eye to Michael who just stood like someone pinned to the ground, he could not believe how fast the words came out of Brenda’s mouth, she spoke of him as if they never had anything to do with each other before.
“Okay thanks dude for helping her out.” Bob told Michael who only nodded as he shook his hands again.
“Hi George, how have you been?” she asked smiling at him.
“Good, thanks for asking.” George replied her.
“Make yourselves at home, you can have whatever you want, there's plenty for all even ladies.” Bod said waving his hand in the air and smiling at them, some of his guys laughed when he mentioned the ladies.
George thanked him and went to get a sit, Michael followed behind.
“What was that? You knew Brenda is seeing Bob?” Michael asked George who turned and glanced at him briefly still moving.
“Yeah, I told you it's just for fun nothing serious.” George said. They found an empty table, George grabbed two chairs and handed one to Michael and they both sat down placing their cups on the table.
“You mean to say, they were seeing each other when you introduced her to me?” Michael asked placing his hands on the table, his eyes widened with curiosity.
“I am not sure if they were seeing each other at that time or not, what I know is that she is someone I met a couple of times at a party and thought she would be a good present for you.” George told Michael, picking his cup up from the table and took a sip. Michael learned back on his chair and stared steadily at George.
“Look man, you don't have to work yourself up on this, she's a girl who can be with just anyone she wants to be with for fun, I know she's all for the fun.” George told Michael seeing his facial expression as he didn't know what to make of the expression on his face.
“Besides you too are no longer together.” He continued still sipping his drink and looking at Michael. “I mean you made it clear to me before did you not or have you changed your mind just now after seeing her?” George added, peering hard at him and searching his eyes to find an answer.
“Yeah I know that, but did you see the way she lied about me to Bob just now, anyone could believe what she just said, harassment my foot.” Michael said and bangs his hand on the table, feeling angry even though he does not know why he was feeling angry, could he be jealous? He asked inwardly and quickly pushed the thought away immediately.
“Easy man, forget about her.” George told Michael putting his cup on the table and peering steadily at him.
“Forget who George?” Brenda said standing beside them at the table. She just walked in on them and heard what George said and felt that she was the topic of discussion.
They both lifted their gaze at the same time as they did not expect to see her there.
“What are you doing here?” Michael asked, his brows furrowed at her while George just sat back relaxing on his chair folding his arms and looking up at Brenda wondering why she's there.
“Seeing your facial expression back there I figured we have an unfinished business.” Brenda said as she pulled a chair and sat down with them.
“What business are you talking about?” Michael asked a little confused, George's facial expression showed he is confused as well.
“I thought I was clear the last time we talked.” Michael asked, looking at Brenda with disdain, he could not believe that after lying about them to his face she would dare come to sit at his table as if nothing happened.
“I thought you missed me.” She said giving him that smile he once thought was so cute.
“No I don't.” He said rather slowly. “And what made you feel that I missed you.” He asked a little puzzled.
“Well, seeing your reaction back there got me thinking that it would be nice if we hanged out some time.” She said as she shrugged her shoulders staring at him.
“Well no thanks, I don't think it's a good idea.” He said almost immediately turning her down.
“Okay if you say so.” She said and stood up from the chair she is sitting on. “Anyways, congratulations on your graduation, you both.” She said and with that she left their table.
She never believed she would be turned down by a guy, twice even. “What a prick, to hell with him.” She cursed as she walked back to meet Bob, feeling mad at herself for going to meet him in the first place, but on second thoughts, she thinks it was because of George’s presence. She will get back at Michael for his rudeness towards her, she said inwardly.
“Hi baby.” She said as she walked up to Bob, and flashing him a smile, trying to act normal.
“Where have you been?” Bob asked as she gave him a hug, he did not know when she left him.
“To the wash room.” She replied, as they both went back to their sitting position, “come on, don’t tell me you missed me just now,” she added, sounding rather sweet.
Michael and George, whose eyes followed her as she walked back to Bob, saw the whole thing and shook their heads and turned to each other again.
Michael shook his head, trying to shake the thought of Brenda off his mind, reminding himself of what she had just done.
“Come on, Mike, let’s get some fun, that’s why we are here in the first place isn’t it?” George said and asked Michael, gesturing for him to follow him as he stood up from the chair.
Michael slowly stood up too from his chair, deciding to do as George had said, he cannot allow Brenda ruin the day for them, he said inwardly…
