Chapter 399: Chapter 399

Chapter 399 The Cruelty of Society

"Come in."

Rachel then walked into the office and stood up straight. "Good afternoon, Mr. Glenn." She then turned to her boss as well, who was in the room and smiled at him. "Good afternoon, Mr. Elmer"

When Glenn saw what Rachel looked like, he was instantly amazed. Rachel was a natural beauty with a heavenly fragrance and he immediately liked her.

He certainly didn't expect that Archer would have such a beautiful subordinate.

"Who are you?" Glenn said as he eyed Rachel from head to toe.

"Mr. Glenn, this is Rachel." Archer said as he introduced his subordinate.

"She's Rachel?" Glenn asked. Archer simply nodded.

"She may look like an angel, but she has been a workaholic for two months now. She's also a conservative and stubborn girl." Archer complained. "Now, what can I do for you, Rachel? You can't just go directly to your supervisor as if I'm simply your friend. I'm talking to Mr. Glenn so please hurry up and leave if you don't have anything important to say." He added.

However, Archer never thought that Rachel would say the words that Glenn wanted to hear.

"Miss Fay went to the appointment and signed the contract. As soon as the crew forms, she said that she'll come over and start shooting." Rachel said bluntly.

Archer's jaw almost dropped. "She signed the contract? How is that even possible?"

He didn't expect that an inexperienced person like Rachel would make Fay agree to work with her. She only had been around for 2 months, after all.

"Mr. Elmer, believe it or not, it happened. That means you better keep your promise." Rachel told Archer and gave him a stern look.

Archer, however, still didn't believe a word that Rachel said. But after almost immediately, Fay's agency called and made it clear that as soon as the crew was ready, they would immediately join the shooting.

When he confirmed that Fay decided to join the agency, he was ecstatic.

Never did he expect that he would be working with Fay.

But Archer seemed to have one question in the back of his mind – and that was how Rachel actually got Fay to sign the contract.

Glenn noticed something weird as well and he decided to ask Rachel about it. "What did you do to make Fay accept, exactly?"

Rachel promised Leon that she wouldn't reveal the truth, so she simply made it seem like she moved Fay with her sincerity. "I was persistent when it came to Fay. I wanted her to accept and sign the contract, after all."

"I see." Glenn said. However, he was very suspicious of her. "You're not lying to us, are you, Rachel?"

"It's true." Rachel said as she frowned. "Mr. Elmer, you promised me. I do hope that you'll fulfill your end of the promise." She added.

"Don't worry about that. I'll be sure to give you your promotion and raise." Archer said as he smiled at Rachel. "Go on now, I still have plenty of things to discuss with Mr. Glenn."

After Rachel felt that Archer was going to keep his promise, she simply nodded and left the office.

However, she didn't know that Archer wouldn't keep his promise at all.

"Mr. Glenn, Rachel has only been on the job for two months. I believe the other employees won't be satisfied if they knew about what she did to get that promotion." Archer told Glenn.

"Of course, Rachel has helped the company a lot since she made Fay sign the contract, but she's still inexperienced. With that said, if the credit was only given to her, other employees would tell us that we've unfairly treated them all this time." He added.

"Archer, I think I understand what you're saying. However, if we don't give Rachel the credit, who will?"

"You will, Mr. Glenn. I'm sure that if we tell all the other employees this, they'll think highly of us now."

Glenn simply smiled. He thought that it was a really good idea, so he agreed.

Meanwhile, Rachel was waiting for Archer's text message. However, she had never expected that he really wouldn't keep the end of his promise and take the credit all for themselves.

"Rachel, you're still young and I bet there are still many opportunities for you. However, If I give you all the credit, all the other employees will be left unsatisfied. For the sake of the team, I'm afraid I won't be able to give you a promotion because of it. However, if you work hard, I might be able to give you a promotion next month" Archer explained through the message, clearly stating that he couldn't give Rachel her promotion at all.
