Chapter 78: Chapter 78

Sarah looked at her daughter once more before lifting her up so they could rush to the car.

As she made way to the garage, she saw Aurora squatting down beside the car. She looked like her soul was gone.

"Sister Rora, let's go quickly to save your handsome brother", Maya said aloud.

Aurora jolted from her thoughts at the sound of her sister's voice. She was surprised to see her mother carrying Maya.

"Mother…Maya…", Aurora stuttered as she looked at her mother who nodded reluctantly at her.

Aurora looked at Maya gratefully.

"Let's go so you can have time to prepare the antidote but Aurora, promise to take care of Maya. I am entrusting her to you", Sarah said seriously.

She wasn't ready for this but she had to follow her daughter's wishes.

Aurora's mother entered the car with her two daughters as she drove heavy-heartedly towards the hospital.

This was a bargain she unwillingly agreed to.

***********

Aurora and her family got down at the front of the specialist hospital Alpha Jax was admitted into. They rushed into the private ward there. Aurora went straight to Jax as she stared at his face which was still looking pale. His wounds have been dressed and it appears to be unable to heal.

After giving Alpha a kiss Aurora rushed to the laboratory at the outer side of the hospital. But before leaving she asked to see Beta Rufus. After discussing with him, she left for the lab. It was a restricted site but she was immediately given access when the Lab assistant saw her.

"Miss Aurora, everything has been prepared as you told us. Doctor Fuller is waiting inside", the assistant lab professor said as he showed her the authorized lab.

"Doctor Fuller?", Aurora asked, raising a brow.

"Yes Miss Aurora. And…the other doctors are still in place too", he added.

Aurora knew the reason why they all wanted to participate in the process but she was not going to explain the other process to them. She doesn't trust any of them as much as they don't trust her.

The reason why she wanted to see Beta Rufus was for him to make it possible for her to be the only one in the ward…apart from Maya who would be snuck in

She doesn't want anyone to take advantage of her sister if the antidote becomes a success. Only Beta Rufus calling restricts them.

Aurora got busy in the laboratory as she started mixing the antidote. The doctors around all helped out in the process. It was only successful because of combined effort from all of them.

The process took her more than twenty hours. She refused to take breaks no matter how hard Rufus talked to her. Seeing her seriousness, the doctors also refused to take breaks too. The older Lab scientists and doctors all looked at her in admiration. She was truly the daughter of Robert Patterson.

Seeing her stubborn demeanor, Beta Rufus let her be but he kept looking at her vigilantly. He also had pediatricians on ground in case of emergency. They waited till the early hours of the morning before she was finally done with the preparation.

Aurora came out sweating profusely but surprisingly she still seemed energetic though her face looked worn out. She signaled to Beta Rufus to proceed with his plan.

"Miss Aurora, is the antidote ready?", Beta Rufus asked, looking serious all of a sudden.

"Yes, the antidote is ready. He will be given three dosages within every thirty minutes in an IV drip", Aurora replied.

"Can you handle it alone or do you need help from the doctors?", Beta Rufus kept questioning her.

"There are no processes needed. I can handle it alone", Aurora replied.

"Good. I asked because of security reasons, I would allow only Miss Patterson into the Alpha's ward", Beta Rufus said.

"Beta, I don't think that's a good idea. How can we trust her?", One of the doctors questioned, '' I mean she is still inexperienced".

"Inexperienced? Were are you the one that produced the antidote?", Beta Rufus threw back at him.

They all remained silent as they silently agreed to Beta Rufus' idea. Afterall, they are not needed in the ward. They have already done their duties.

Beta Rufus led Aurora to Alpha Jax ward and placed three guards around the door to ward off Intruders. He had already snuck Maya inside the ward. He looked at the little girl who looked so cute.

"Hey Maya, are you afraid? Don't worry, your sister and I will be here all the way. I know you are a brave girl", Beta Rufus tried to cheer Maya up.

"Uncle Rufus, I am a big girl. I am not afraid but Uncle why am I seeing a handsome boy by your side? The baby looks so cute, Uncle Rufus", Maya said grinning.

"Maya, will you stop with these scary visions? Though I would really love a baby but please spare my fragile heart from fear. People would probably think there is a ghost here", Beta Rufus said with clasped hands as Maya burst into laughter.

Beta Rufus had experienced one of Maya's scary visions the last time he visited. She had told him a bee would sting him and he would not be able to walk for two days. He laughed over it because there were no bees around the Pack.

Unfortunately for him, on his way to the office, Alpha Jax ordered him to look for a rare flower for experiment. He never knew the flower was close to a honeycomb. In his search, he was stung by a family of bees which made him stay at home for two days.

And since then, Beta Rufus had avoided Maya's words like plague.

Aurora smiled at their banter. Now it was time to administer the first dosage. She gave Maya sleeping drugs so she could sleep.

As Maya fell into unconsciousness, Aurora infused Maya's blood with Alpha's Jax's own through the IV. She waited for five minutes before injecting the first dosage.

Now they have to be patient. Will it work?

Jax, please wake up! She muttered lowly, clasping her hands as she prayed to the moon goddess.

Please... You can't die Jax... Atleast not now. You have to see your child grow into a man or woman. You have to remain by my side and together we have to rule the pack. I can't live without you so you can't die. You better wake up" Aurora wept.

After administering the last dosage of the antidote into the drip fixed to Maya, Aurora waited patiently to feel Jax's pulse. According to her father's analysis, the last dosage should be able to start pumping the heart again in another thirty minutes.

Though Aurora was extremely tired and sleepy, she could not afford to leave Jax's side for even a minute. She want to be here when he finally wakes up. Maya's pulse so far had been stable and she doesn't have any symptoms of infection. She was just in deep slumber due to the sleeping injection.

Sarah's mother was snucked in when she insisted on seeing her daughters. When she came in, the first thing she noticed was Aurora's haggard face. She knew her daughter was holding onto her last hope. The words of Maya came rushing in.

"Mother, Sister Rora would die if handsome brother dies and if sister Rora dies, I will also die too"

She realized that Maya was right. Aurora will surely die if anything happens to Jax. She wonders how these three persons fate were connected.

Sarah went up to her daughter to convince her to rest but all urges fell on deaf ears as Aurora insisted on staying by Jax's side.

The clock ticked slowly as Aurora waited patiently to hear Jax's heartbeat. She knew everyone was anxious including the doctors and all the werewolves outside. Aurora held onto that little glimmer of hope.

Maya's hope.

"Sister Rora, I am ready to save my handsome uncle. Don't cry please"

Aurora held back her tears as she remembered her little sister's words. I won't cry, Maya. Please save your handsome uncle.

Slowly the last drop of the blood infusion between Maya and Alpha Jax got finished. Maya woke up ten minutes later. She was looking fine but because of the infusion, Aurora told Beta Rufus to take her for more check-up.

As soon as Maya was snuck out, the doctors were given access again with the excuse that Aurora was tired and would need someone to monitor the alpha alongside herself.

It's remaining twenty minutes for the heart to start beating again. Everyone waited anxiously as they kept monitoring him every five minutes. No one dare slack off. This was a once in a lifetime experiment.

Though many of the older doctors were Aurora's father colleague, they are also aware that even the magic scientist could not get the antidote to work. They all believe that there's a limit to scientific knowledge especially in terms of medical research.

There was only one scientist who had been able to breakthrough so many scientific experiment had been Aurora's father, Robert Patterson. But, he had one challenge.

The antidote to the poison of the trinitaria flower.

Though Robert Patterson had been able to produce many poisons to kill powerful werewolves and also breakthrough many scientific projects, he had just one challenge, which is the antidote to the trinitaria poison.

The reason why Alpha Jax and his father had been against him was that he started selling the poisons to the enemy packs. The one that got Jax riled up after his father's death and which led to the scientist assassination was the experiment in making humans werewolves.

Until now did Aurora understand the reason his father had been eager to make humans werewolves by serum insemination. Robert Patterson wanted to produce the antidote of the trinitaria poison without using his daughters. His love for his children made him destroy the lives of thousands of humans because the experiment went wrong. It was against nature.

Many of the doctors were witnesses to Robert Patterson inability to produce the antidote of the trinitaria poison so it didn't go well with them when Aurora, his daughter, was insisting on making it possible.

The doctors had wanted to reject the antidote but they were afraid of Beta Rufus who stood firmly by Aurora. So they allowed her to continue with the project.

When Aurora went in alone, many of the older doctors were suspicious but they had to rein in their curiosity when they received the dangerous glare from Beta Rufus. They need there to be more to the antidote but what? That's what they are confused about.

They waited patiently for news from the ward but after thirty minutes, the alpha did not wake up. They were rather told they could go inside now to assist the young woman.

They knew instantly that there was more to the antidote but no one dares to openly say their mind. No one wants to die.

The doctors had been in the room for thirty minutes now yet there was no sign of life from the alpha. But there was one thing that the doctors observed. The Alpha's cheek had become rosy. There was blood certainly flowing but why wasn't he waking up?

"I wonder why the Beta would trust the daughter of a betrayal to save the alpha who was against her father?", One of the doctors murmured.

"Alex, be quiet. Did you forget she is the Alpha's mate?", Another chided.

"Even if she is his mate, Seth. That should be more of the reason she would have left the task to us", Doctor Alex grumbled.

"And you think you can produce the antidote? Do you know the ingredients needed? Have you ever produced an antidote for even the weakest of all poisons? Simply because you hate Robert doesn't make you judgemental towards her daughter, Alex", Doctor Seth chided again.

"I don't just trust her. How could she think she can produce an antidote that even her father couldn't produce? She is just an inexperienced brat!", Doctor Alex continued.

"Enough already, you two. And Alex, why haven't you produced the antidote all this time before the inexperienced brat did? I don't want to hear another word from you again or I will send you to the cells. Let's just pray to the Moon goddess to have pity on us and save our Alpha. He is a good leader", Doctor Fuller admonished as he heard the chattering between the two doctors.

Though Aurora was still inside the ward, she could hear everything they were saying outside. Sometimes she also doubted herself during these experiments but experience had taught her that a good scientist should possess a high level of patience.

She looked tiredly at Alpha Jax rosy cheeks. She really wished he was awake already so she could pinch those cheeks of his. Aurora silently prayed to the Moon goddess for a miracle.

"Wake up Jax, I can't do this alone. I can't take care of our child alone. Please wake up! Remember your promise, sweetheart. Remember our love", Aurora whispered faintly into his ears.

Though she wondered why he was not waking up as her father had predicted, she still had hope that he would surely wake up soon. That was the glimmer of hope she was holding onto with the last of her energy.

"Baby, hang on. We need to wait for Jax", Aurora said touching her slightly protruding stomach.

Aurora tried to get up to feel his pulse. She had already done all she could to wake him up. All they needed was patience and…lots of luck from the Moon goddess. She can't afford to lose him. But she knew he would wake up.

Aurora who overestimated her body got up but before anyone could see what was happening, she was already falling down. She lost consciousness immediately.

Beta Rufus who had been vigilant around her, rushed up to her and held her before she fell to the ground. He knew she had exhausted her last bit of energy.

Beta Rufus who was about to shout for the pediatrician heard a soft inaudible voice right inside the ward. He could never mistake that voice.

Aurora….!

That was Alpha Jax's voice.

Beta Rufus turned to look at the alpha lying on the bed but his eyes were still closed. Did he just misheard?

The pediatricians arrived and carried Aurora on the bed beside Alpha Jax. They started administering to her. It was obvious she fainted from exhaustion.

"Aurora!"

This time the voice was clearer and…the alpha was alive.

"You did it Aurora!", Beta Rufus said as he called the attention of the doctors.

"Please wake up, Aurora. You did it", Beta Rufus whispered softly to Aurora who had lost consciousness.
