CHAPTER 51

Beta Rufus had been lodging in this inn for the past one week. According to the innkeeper, a lady that fit the description of Celine had been coming there for more than a week before he came over. But not long ago, she had stopped coming for some days.

The reason he noticed her was that she was very beautiful and appeared to be putting on just one dress all the time. He thought she was a beggar but surprisingly she always pay for her meals. She doesn't and never begged. There was a time she asked if there was any work she could do to earn money.

The innkeeper became curious about her. He promised to help her get a job but after that day he hadn't seen her again.

Beta Rufus was patient. He had to be because he had been devastated since the day she ran away. At first he had been angry, then he grew anxious and now he looked frustrated and desperate.

After Celine ran away that morning, he had been unable to concentrate on anything. He even made several mistakes. He kept asking himself where he had gone wrong.

Why would she run away from him? Whatever they did was with her consent, though she was drunk but he was ready to apologise to her if need be. But she just ran away from him without looking back.

Beta Rufus had no choice but to take permission from Alpha Jax after explaining to him what happened that night.

"Alpha, I really don't know what happened. How could she run away just like that?", He asked looking depressed.

"Rufus, if you were in her shoes you would do the same thing", Alpha Jax said calmly.

"Jax, what are you even saying? We are mates, aren't we supposed to have that spark and act accordingly? Are you even my friend?", Beta Rufus asked, looking at his friend with an accusing tone.

Alpha Jax laughed before tapping his beta's head with a raised brow", Didn't you say she was Jasmine's sister? Why don't you connect the dots?".

Realization dawned upon Beta Rufus as he slumped down dejectedly. He believed Celine must have left because she recognized him. Beta Rufus cast an accusing look at Alpha Jax.

"What? Is it now my fault?", Alpha Jax asked. Beta Rufus looked away as silent agreement.

Alpha Jax chuckled as he saw his friend's look. He knew what it means to have a dispute with someone you love.

"Why don't you go and look for her? Don't worry, I will handle the affairs till you are back", Alpha Jax said smiling.

Beta Rufus was overjoyed. He embraced his friend so tightly. He knew his friend would understand him.

"Thank you so much, Alpha", he whispered.

That was how he had been searching for her for more than two weeks. This inn was the only place that gave him hope. He had a picture of her in his phone which he showed to people around.

The manager of this inn had told him he had seen a similar girl coming to the inn for the past one week. He believed she had exhausted her money, that's why she hadn't come yet.

Beta Rufus has decided to go elsewhere if he doesn't see her tonight. He was feeling bored so he decided to go and drink something in a nearby bar.

He was on his fifth glass when he saw a very familiar silhouette. Could it be…her? He took another glance at the place he saw the silhouette but he couldn't find her again.

"What the heck? Was he drunk?", He asked himself.

Beta Rufus was sure he saw Celine just now. He quickly put down his drink and came out of the bar. He searched everywhere but he couldn't find her. He had to ask around. He was about to ask someone else when he caught a glimpse of her again.

This time she was walking towards the forest opposite the bar. He guessed she was trying to sneak away.

He decided never to lose her again. He pursued her but it seems that the girl is a great athlete. Immediately she noticed he was following her, she broke into a run. He expected her to run away again so he had been ready for that.

She continued running deeper into the forest but Beta Rufus didn't care as he continued pursuing her.

Then Beta Rufus saw her clothes tearing as she ran deeper. He knew she was going to transform so he followed suit. He stopped to remove his pants and shirt. He changed into his wolf form and ran into the forest trying to catch the agile wolf with brown and white fur.

Beta Rufus wolf was a black one with white speck. His wolf was the second to biggest wolf after Alpha's own.

After running for more than thirty minutes in a circle, Beta Rufus saw that Celine's wolf was getting weak. He decided to speed up to meet up with her.

Just as he got closer to her, Celine's wolf slumped down weakly. He panicked as he ran to her but before he got there, she had changed into her human form. She was looking really weak. Her lips were cracked and she looked terribly pale.

Her eye sockets were deep and dark. It looked like her skin had witnessed harsh sunny conditions. There were several patches on her white skin. Her hands were looking bony and dry. He bent down to feel her breath. It was stable but weak.

His heart was beating fast. He was afraid. What if he had not seen her? Would she have…? He doesn't even want to think about it.

Beta Rufus quickly changed to his human form too as he quickly carried her carefully on his back. He had to get her to the inn and get a doctor to check on her.

He ran quickly back to the inn and took her straight into his room. He called the innkeeper to get a doctor immediately.

He placed her on the bed and wrapped her up with the bedsheet. He decided to order new clothes for her immediately.

After about thirty minutes, the doctor finally came to check on her. Her face was still looking very pale and her skin was cold and cracked. She looked very sick. He wondered what happened to her these past weeks. He was very worried and continuously blamed himself.

He should have been more vigilant towards her. When he knew she was Jasmine's sister, he would have explained to her. He shouldn't have even slept with her. He was feeling very guilty. He knew he caused her suffering.

He can't believe he was a terrible mate. Why would he cause grief to his mate on the first day of meeting her? He promised to take care of her from now on.

The doctor checked her and frowned at his findings. This young lady is not actually sick but her body is very weak due to lack of food and rest.

"How could you guys let her starve like this? She is very malnourished. She needs good food and care. She is also emotionally unstable. It seems like something is troubling her", the doctor said.

"Doctor, what should be done?", Beta Rufus asked anxiously.

"Like I said all she needs is good food, care and she needs to be happy too. I will also prescribe some multivitamins for her", the doctor replied.

"But she is still unconscious", he said worriedly.

"Yes, that's because her body had become too weak. The drip I fixed on her body will give her strength. But once she is awake, give her food to eat and allow her to rest very well", the doctor advised.

"Okay doctor, Thank you", Beta Rufus said as he paid the doctor.

After the doctor left, he called the innkeeper and ordered for food to be prepared. He gave the innkeeper lots of money so he can attend to them wholeheartedly. He told him to change his room to a more comfortable and bigger one because it seems they won't be able to leave till Celine becomes healthier.

The man was very happy as he arranged a very comfortable room for them. He couldn't believe his luck. He believes this man must be a very important person in his Pack.

Once Celine wakes up, he would make sure she was well-fed. He had also ordered new clothes for both of them. He was happy she didn't go to the human side. He won't be too sure what would have happened to her.

He stared at the sleeping girl on the bed. Though she looked pale and cranky, her beauty could not be hidden.

This was his mate. He had waited for a mate since the time he had his acceptance ceremony eight years ago.

How much had she suffered for her body to be so weak?
