Chapter 61: Chapter 61
Sharaina got into her home and immediately stunned Akirexer with her maid uniform. Akirexer looked at her from head to toe before putting her hands on her hips and narrowing her eyes at Sharaina.
Channy walked out of the kitchen and tilted her head in surprise to see Sharaina dressed like that. Naian and Emelinia happily got down the stairs hand in hand. They decided to share their good news with everyone but seeing Sharaina made them stop.
"Sharaina, why are you dressed as a royal maid?" Emelinia asked her.
Sharaina lifted the dress up and twirled around. "It is a cute uniform isn't it?" She laughed softly.
Akirexer folded her hands. "Sharaina, stop it with your silly jokes. Why are you wearing this?"
"Mama, why do you worry so much? What's wrong with me wearing one huh? All of you need to relax." Sharaina admonished and went into the kitchen.
Sharumez got downstairs and saw the baffled looks on everyone. He assumed that Sharaina had done something wrong so he didn't say anything but went into the living room instead. He found Alainara drawing a picture on the carpet. Akirexer was about to follow Sharaina into the kitchen when she heard a knock on the door. Naian opened the door and he was taken aback to see Light there.
"Um Light - " Naian said.
"I'm sorry for coming over so suddenly but Sharaina left this at my house so I thought of returning it to her." Light held out the plastic bag that had Sharaina's clothes and shoes. "I might be heading back to Perivion first thing tomorrow so I figured now is the best time to return them."
"Oh sure please do come in." Naian said.
Akirexer was now even more curious to know why Sharaina took off her clothes at Light's house and wore a maid's uniform.
'Is Light into some weird fetishes that involve Sharaina dressing up in order to satisfy his kinky fantasies?' She glared at him before going to join Sharumez in the living room.
"Who is here?" Sharumez asked Akirexer.
"It's Light. Sharaina left her..." Akirexer paused. If she told Sharumez about Sharaina forgetting her clothes at Light's house, it was going to drive him mad. "She left her book at his house and he has come to return it." Akirexer said instead. Best I keep this to myself and talk to Sharaina later.
"Oh I see, call him here for me." Sharumez said and Akirexer left to call him.
Light went to see Sharumez and he offered him a seat. Sharumez called everyone into the living room. Channy sat down next to Emelinia while Naian sat with Light. Akirexer sat alone with Alainara at her feet. Sharumez waited for Sharaina but she was still in the kitchen doing who knows what.
"Sharaina," Sharumez called out to her.
"Yes papa!" Sharaina answered.
"Didn't you hear me calling everyone into the living room?" He asked her.
"No I did not!" Sharaina answered back.
"Well come here at once." Sharumez commanded her.
"Okay I'm coming." Sharaina quickly answered.
"I can't hear your footsteps!" Sharumez yelled.
"I'm still eating my sandwich." Sharaina answered back and this infuriated Sharumez.
"Sharaina if you don't get in here..." Sharumez warned her.
"Alright, alright already. I am here now goodness." Sharaina rolled her eyes with a smug. In her hand was a plate with a half eaten sandwich.
Sharumez slowly looked at her from head to toe. "I don't even want to know why you are in a maid's uniform." He said and Sharaina laughed. "Come sit here with me." He patted the empty spot next to him and she sat down.
Sharaina widened her eyes questioningly at Light and he slightly lifted his shoulders to her. 'Oh no I forgot my clothes at his house. Damn your innocence Light. You may have trapped us by returning them. Sharaina looked at Akirexer and she couldn't read her face. That's not good. She probably thinks he and I did something whilst at his house. If this is a meeting about my sex life I swear I will walk out.'
"Light..." Sharumez began. "I have seen that your genuinely love and care about my daughter that's why I have asked you to sit down with us. I have something important to say regarding her and I feel that you also deserve to know." Sharumez's voice the room.
"If you still want her even after knowing what I am about to tell all of you, I will accept you and your relationship with her." Sharumez continued.
"Wait what?" Sharaina looked at her father bewildered.
"Sharaina what your father and I are about to tell you is a little sensitive. We hope that you will forgive us for keeping the truth from you." Akirexer said.
"Um, okay what is this about?" Sharaina said and put her plate on the table.
"Listen to what I am about to tell you child. I only hope that you will forgive us. Because your mother's parents were seers, my parents refused to accept your mother. She and I eloped and got married secretly. When I returned home with her as my wife, my parents were furious and they disowned me. Your mother's parents were equally furious with me for marrying her without their permission so they disowned her. Your mother and I were forced to spend our wedding night in the streets. The next morning, I left her at a homeless shelter and went to look for a job. I was only able to find piece works but they were enough to help me get us food for the night.
This went on for a while until a man employed me as one of his builders. Your mother and I secured a tiny apartment and we were content with it. Years later, after Naian was born, your grandfather, Philip, came looking for me. He asked me to return home in order to take care of your grandmother while he was away serving his master. Being a none pure, your grandfather spent most of his time away from home training just so he could get stronger. The whole time he was away, I took care of your mother, brother and grandmother. Your grandfather's master was a powerful authoritative darkas god who dictated his life at his will. It was only after the death of your grandfather that I found out that his master was the lord of the infamous Mid Night Crawlers. For many years my father stayed away from home. It was just us and everything seemed to be okay despite the cold attitude your grandmother had towards your mother. Your mother beared everything silently. As time went on, your mother and I were expecting you. One stormy day, while I was away for work, your mother; heavily pregnant with you fell down the stairs. Our neighbors heard her cries and they went to her rescue. She was immediately taken to the hospital where she suffered terribly in order to have you. It was so bad than she fell into hibernation.I was devastated and afraid. I feared having to take care of two small children all on my own. The doctors assured me that they were going to do all they could to revive your mother. In the meantime, they asked me to return home with you. They gave me bottles of milk for the night that they pumped out of your mother.
I remember the joy and peace I felt when I held you for the first time. You were so tiny and fragile - cute and adorable. I could see your mother in you and I was happy to see my hair on you. I knew next to nothing when it came to taking care of babies. When I didn't find my mother home, I knew that I had to man up and take care of you and your brother. In the night a heard someone fall on the porch. I turned on a lamp and went outside to check. I was horrified to see my father bleeding and fatally wounded. He smiled at me and asked me if his new grandchild had finally come into the world. I told him that she did and that we would talk about that later. I tried to help him up but he refused. He instead demanded that I bring you to him. When I saw that my efforts to get him inside were fruitless, I gave in and went to get you. I gently placed you in his bloody hands and they stained your blanket. My father looked at you so lovingly and your kissed your forehead. He then proceeded to name you Sharaina. He unwrapped your blanket and took off your clothes. I did not like that one bit. I told him that you were a new born so exposing you to the coldness of the night wasn't advisable. He laughed and assured me that it was okay and that I shouldn't worry because he knew what he was doing. Because of the cold, you were crying so much that it almost made me snatch you away from him but I chose to hold on a little bit. I watched him turn you over and behold was your dragon birthmark. It was on the right side of your back and it ran down to your waist. Your grandfather touched it with his bloody hand and he laughed softly. He turned to me and said, 'Son, my master has been killed by some traitors who wanted his power. Before he died he was able to transfer all of his powers to me. Unfortunately, I equally got wounded as I fought off and killed the traitors. As I am speaking to you now, I am about to die. I hope you forgive me for what I am about to do but it is the only way this power won't go to waste.' I watched him take some blood that belonged to his master in a bottle. He proceeded to draw a line on the other side of your back. He then placed his hand on what he had drawn and he transferred all the power into you using the blood as a medium. You cried even more than before. I begged my father to stop hurting you but he said nothing. When the transfer was done, you immediately stopped crying and my father was dead. When I checked your back, there was another dragon mark exactly like the original one. It appeared as though they were joined together so people mistakenly thought that it was just one.
"Is this why I turn into an uncontrollable force of destruction when I'm furious?" Sharaina asked Sharumez.
"Yes it is child." Akirexer answered instead. "The other power dwelling within you is difficult to keep at bay when you get emotional. When you got angry as a baby, windows would break as you cried. Furniture would get destroyed and your father and I would panic and do all we could to calm you down." Akirexer explained.
"How I wish you told me this earlier. I have spent years in fear of my own temper." Sharaina frowned. "I would have honestly understood why if you had explained it to me."
"Please forgive us child. We were..."
"Afraid of me?" Sharaina asked her mother.
"No, not at all." Akirexer shook her head.
"Don't lie to me mama. We are coming clean now aren't we? We might as well be honest with each other." Sharaina stood up. "You were afraid that I would get angry with you for keeping such a huge secret from me and that I would hurt all of you in my anger." Sharaina turned to everyone else. "I'm assuming all of you have now started to fear me now."
"No Sharaina it is not like that." Light said to her and stood up too. "Don't be too hard on your parents. Keeping all that from you and everyone else wasn't an easy thing to do on their part."
"You may not fear me now Light but you will one day. After all, everyone who has seen me like that and has lived to tell the tale is absolutely terrified of me." Sharaina glanced over at Emelinia. "Well you aren't afraid of me I guess but the fact is that I am a monster and that's why they didn't tell me."
"That is not true Sharaina. We just wanted you to have a normal childhood. We didn't want to make you feel that you were a monster because you weren't. You just harbor an enormous amount gamarax in your body. This is why your powers were activated so early. If someone else faced that Kremis that day, that person would have died." Sharumez explained to her.
"Oh I see." Sharaina answered with annoyance.
"Seeing that red sword again forced us to finally come clean and tell you the truth." Sharumez added. "It belonged to the former overload of the Midnight Crawlers."
"I understand everything you are saying. There's no need to keep on explaining yourselves. Thank you for finally telling me. At least now when I go berserk, I will know why."
"Sharaina..." Akirexer softly called out to her.
"What?"
Akirexer frowned. "Sharaina please don't be like this." She pleaded.
"Be like what mama?" Sharaina put her hands together. "All this is a lot for me to take. What more do you want me to say? You know what, let's just shut up about this." Sharaina coldly said averted her angry eyes away from her mother.
"Sharaina don't talk to mama like that." Naian sternly told her. "Telling you this wasn't easy for them. At least try to understand things from their point of view." He said
"What about understanding things from my point of view Naian? You will never understand how messed up this whole thing is for me. I have inherited power of a criminal leader of a gang. This is power that was obtained by cannibalism. My body is filled with the lives of thousands!" Sharaina silenced Naian. "You know what I am done talking about this so for goodness sake just shut up and let me breath."
"Sharaina you are -" Light stopped speaking when he saw Sharumez hold his hand up.
Sharaina walked away and headed upstairs to her room. Light, Akirexer and Emelinia frowned at her. Akirexer sat down and held her head in distraught.
Sharumez on the other hand looked thoughtfully at Light. The whole time he was telling the truth to Sharaina, he was observing him closely. He wanted to see how he would react to the truth and he was pleased with what he saw. At least now he was rest assured that Light was worthy of his daughter.
He felt even more relieved that finally the truth was out. He hated having to keep Sharaina in the dark. He knew that Sharaina wasn't the type to keep grudges especially against her family and friends. He raised her to be that way towards others. This was just a huge shock to her and she needed some time to come to terms with it.
"I must head home now." Light voiced out. "I will come and check on her tomorrow morning." He said.
"Sure that will be okay." Akirexer warmly told him.
Light turned to Naian but his attention was on Emelinia. She could barely keep it together. She sat taking quick breaths while her mother held her hand. Due to his experience in the medical field, Light knew that Emelinia was pregnant. He smiled at her widely and she smiled back.
"Congratulations." He said with a smile and left leaving Sharumez confused.
"What was he talking about?" Sharumez asked Naian.
"We are expecting." Naian happily answered.
Sharumez gasped. "Akirexer we are going to be grandparents. I cannot believe it."
"I had my suspicions." Akirexer chuckled. "I thought that you did too."
Sharumez pointed at himself. "Are you kidding me? Why would I suspect that?"
Akirexer held her waist and rolled her eyes. "You are a father of three. One would expect that you would be able to recognize such signs."
"The only sign I know is the never ending eating and the beatings and scolding that come with it." Sharumez shuddered making the women laugh.
"Wait did you say beatings and scolding?" Naian asked Sharumez.
"Brace yourself son. Just be sure to feed her otherwise you will be in for it." Sharumez seriously warned and the women laughed again.
Sharaina remembered that she left her sandwich in the living room so she went out of her room. She overheard everyone talking about Emelinia's pregnancy and she shrieked in excitement. She went over to Emelinia and placed her hand on her belly. They both smiled merrily at each other.
Channy was shocked with Sharaina's sudden change of mood. Just a few minutes ago she was fighting her temper and now she was all smiles as though nothing happened.
Sharumez and Akirexer weren't surprised that she had forgotten her anger and decided to join in on everyone's happiness. They knew that she was still bothered about what they had told her but she wasn't the type to mop about her problems at the expense of the happiness of others.
