Chapter 75: Chapter 75
I thought Enver would refuse to have a talk with his family to settle their issue. But that didn’t happen and I couldn’t help but smile when I saw him guiding them in the garden where they were going to talk.
Millie and I started preparing the dining table because we would eat our dinner after their conversation.
“Eh? Seriously?” Ferry said after Castiel told her that my in-laws said sorry to me. “Are they even sincere?” She looked at me. “Not just some scheme because they are afraid to upset you because they know that you have the power to forbid them from approaching Millie again.”
“That is the first thing that came to my mind earlier.” I put a plate full of kiwi with a side sauce of spicy ketchup in front of her. This is what she has been craving for ever since she got pregnant. “It feels like they were sincere. And Erwin vouch for that.”
“Oh well,” Castiel said. “It doesn’t really matter now if they were sincere or not. They already experienced such shame because of their evil scheme in the past and if they try to continue their way, then, they will suffer much worse. And their chance to be with Millie will surely not happen again.”
“Yeah.” Ferry nodded. “They must have realized and thought carefully that it was wrong for them to risk the only chance you have for them to be part of Millie’s life.”
“So, you don’t have to worry about them anymore,” Castiel added. “And you don’t have to be afraid anymore. Instead, they should be afraid of you.”
They looked at each other as if their eyes were talking, and that made me frown. Do they know something but they don’t have any plans to tell me?
“Hey—” I was about to ask them but Millie held my hand. I turned my eyes on her. “What is it, baby?”
“They already finished talking,” she said. “And I guess they already made up. Lola V and Don Lolo were hugging Daddy.”
I smiled after hearing that. I know their conversation is not enough to finally fix everything but it will be the start. Slowly, they will be able to forgive and they will learn to trust each other again.
I am just glad that they both give each other a chance for them to fix their family.
“Then, go with them and bring them here.” I caressed her hair. “Tell them that we will have our dinner before it gets cold.”
She nodded and immediately ran to Enver.
And I turned my attention to Castiel and Ferry who were smiling while staring at me, so I raised my eyebrows on them. “Why are you giving me that kind of smile?”
They shook their heads.
“We were just happy to see that your family is slowly getting together again,” Castiel said. “You have been dreaming of this, right?”
I smiled and nodded.
Having a family was one of my dreams before since I was still too young when my parents died. So, I promised myself that I would build my own family and I would do everything for us to stay together.
That is why I always choose to stay with Enver even though our situation is a little bit more complicated than normal. I always told myself that I shouldn’t give up on him because he is my husband. He is my family.
When we finally got together again, this time, we had Millie in our lives. I thought that it was not good for Enver to cut ties with his family. So, I work so hard to prepare for everything to ensure that I will always be ready for them if I will let them back into our lives.
Well, family is very important to me.
And I am thankful that my in-laws finally acknowledged their mistake and realized that they can’t break us apart, no matter what they do.
But I will not ask them to accept me as part of their family. They just have to respect me as their son’s wife and granddaughter’s mother. That is enough for me.
“Mommy!” Millie shouted as they went inside the dining room. Enver was carrying him as they came to me. “They are all here.”
Enver kissed me and I noticed his swollen eyes, maybe because he cried while he was talking with his family. But aside from that, I could also see the happiness in his eyes. “Thank you,” he whispered. “Thank you so much.”
I frowned. “I didn’t do anything special, hubby.”
He shook his head. “Thank you for choosing me and this family over and over again. For not giving up on me despite what happened in our past. For giving them a chance to change themselves and for letting them in our daughter’s life. And most of all, thank you for coming into my life.”
I smiled and caressed his face. “That’s what family is, right? So, you don’t have to thank me. I was just fighting for my family.” I kissed him on the lips.
“Ayiee!” We both looked at Millie who was laughing while looking at us. “Please don’t flirt in front of me, Mommy… Daddy…”
I winced. “And where did you learn that word, young lady?” I took her from Enver and slightly pinched her cheeks.
“I heard it once in our school, Mom,” she said. “My teacher and her husband were at the canteen at that time. Then, a bunch of students from the high school department teased them and said they were flirting.”
“Oh.” I put her in the chair and flicked the tip of her nose. “You are way too young to use that word, lady. Don’t say that again, okay?” I can’t stop her from hearing those kinds of words but I can make her stop saying that as long as she was still a kid.
She may be way more mature than her age but she is still a child and she has to mind everything that comes in her mouth to prevent further trouble.
She immediately nodded and even gave a salute. “Yes, Mommy.”
I kissed her cheeks and turned to my in-laws. “Please have a seat so we can start eating before it gets cold.”
We all sat around the table and started eating as the maid served the food and drinks.
They are having wine in their glass. And since I am pregnant, I only have fresh fruit juice, as well as Millie.
“So…” I cut the silence around us. “I already said it earlier but I will repeat it.” I looked at Don Emil and Madame Venice. “You don’t have to say sorry to me. You also don’t need to ask for punishment for everything you have done to me before because when I decided to invite you here, I already chose to forget and just let go of what happened to us in the past.”
“R-really? Don Emil asked and I didn’t hesitate to nod. “But we have been cruel to you. And I was the reason why you got separated from Enver for five years.”
“Yeah.” I nodded. “And we can’t change those, right? It will not do us any good if I get mad or even if I take revenge on you for maltreating me. It was all in the past so we just have to move on.”
“Then…” Madame Venice took a deep breath. “What should we do now? We really regret everything and we want to fix every mistake we made before. We want to make up for that.”
I looked them straight in the eyes. “You can start by promising me that you will not do anything that may hurt Enver and our daughter. As long as you promise that, we will never have any problem with each other. And I’ll let you visit here to be with Millie.”
And maybe in time, I will also let Millie visit them in their house, even without my supervision. But of course, it will still take some time.
“It only means that you have to finally accept her as Enver’s wife,” Erwin added. “Especially now that she is pregnant with their second child.”
I grimaced and turned to Enver. “You told him.”
He slowly turned his eyes away from me and scratched his head. “Well, yeah,” he said. “I was actually expecting the possibility that my parents would make a scene so I asked for his help out, just in case.” He sighed and looked at me. “I was just worried that they might stress you.”
“Oh my god!” Madame Venice was shocked by what she just heard. “You… you are bearing another angel in your belly again?”
I glared at Erwin but he just smiled and gave me a peace sign.
Not that I don’t have plans to tell them but I haven’t mentioned this to Millie. I was thinking of telling this news to her first before everyone else.
I sighed and nodded, in response to Madame’s question. “I just learned it earlier. But my first check-up will be next week to know how many weeks it has been.”
“Congrats, Milan!” Ethyl said. “I guess it was the right decision when we chose to follow our parents here. It was great news for us to miss it, in case we didn’t go here.”
“Yes!” I heard Millie mumble and I turned to her.
I saw her secretly punching in the air as if she just won a great prize.
Then, she looked at me with a wide smile on her lips. “I am so happy, Mommy,” she said. “I am going to have baby siblings. I am going to be a big sister.”
“It is indeed a celebration night for us,” Don Emil said. “For getting along with our family together again, for meeting our granddaughter, and now, for your pregnancy.”
He raised his wine glass and we followed his lead as we all raised ours.
“Cheers to all the good and bad stuff that happened in our lives,” Castiel said. “Cheers to all of us.”
“Cheers.”
