Chapter 74: Chapter 74

“Are you even breathing?” Castiel whispered to me while we were looking at the car that stopped in front of our house. “You don’t have to be nervous, right? They were just your in-laws.”

I glared at her. “I am not nervous.” I rolled my eyes. “I am just composing myself to avoid the awkwardness that we might feel later.” I turned my attention to the car when Enver opened it.

He was the one who greeted our guest outside the gate. Ferry stayed inside while Castiel and I stood in front of the door, together with Millie who was holding my hand.

Don Emil and Madame Venice came out of the car, with their usual posture. Well, I guess not a lot of people can change after a long time.

They were carrying a lot of paper bags, marked with luxury brands, and I think it contained toys that they were going to give to Millie.

She chuckled. “If you say so,” she said. “But I didn’t expect that they would also bring two of Enver’s siblings.” We both turned our eyes to the other car that just arrived and parked behind the first car.

And since the window of that car was rolled down, we can see who was riding it, Ethyl and Erwin. They are younger siblings of Enver.

“And I guess the don and madame didn’t expect that they would come with them,”

Don Emil was shocked when he noticed his children. He was even glaring at them while Madame Venice was staring at me, with a hint of worry in his eyes.

I sighed and looked at Millie. “Wait here with your Aunt Cas, okay? There are just some unexpected guests that I need to take care of.”

She nodded without saying anything. But I can see in her eyes the excitement to greet and talk to her grandparents.

I smiled and let go of her hand, then I came next to Enver.

“Milan…” Madame softly called my name.

I looked at them and smiled. “Nice to see you again, Madame,” I said as I turned my head over the car of their children.

“Ahm…” Don Emil faked a cough that caught my attention. “I am sorry for this unexpected situation. We didn’t intend to bring anyone with us because that isn't included in your invitation. Those brats just followed us.”

“We will make them leave—”

I shook my head. “No need for that, Madame,” I said. “They can stay so please let them go inside our house. I will introduce both of you to your granddaughter.”

They were taken aback because of my statement and I didn’t pay attention to that. I just told Enver to talk to his siblings and invite them inside. They are already here so it would be rude if I won’t invite them over.

I went inside the gate and I felt that they followed me. Until we reached in front of Millie.

“Good evening, Don and Madame,” Castiel greeted. “I hope you don’t mind us joining this dinner.”

“It is okay, hija,” Madame said. “We know that Milan treated you as her family so it is only right that you are also here.”

I took Millie’s hand and faced the couple. “Ahm…” I caressed my daughter’s hair. “This is our daughter, Millie Vera Andrius.” I looked at Millie. “Baby, they are your grandparents.”

Millie let go of my hand and stood in front of them.

The don and madame were still hesitant to do anything. Well, maybe because they are being careful not to make me upset. They must have been thinking that if they did something I didn’t like, this meeting would immediately end.

“Hello, grandparents,” Millie greeted them like a little princess. She was holding the hem of her dress, bent on her knees, and slightly bowed her head. After that, she stood straight and smiled at them. “I am your cute granddaughter. Please call me Millie.” And she put one of her hands on his waist while giving a peace sign.

I almost laughed when she posed like that.

This kid really knows how to lighten up the mood around her.

Though, instead of laughing, they burst into tears. They even let go of all the paper bags that they were holding and knelt in front of Millie, and then they both hugged her.

I kind of felt relieved when I saw their reactions because I could see that they were sincere about being part of Millie’s life.

I just hope things work out for everyone, now that we are both willing to adjust.

“Milan…”

I turned my eyes to Ethyl and Erwin who were standing beside Enver.

“I am sorry for coming here even though we were not actually included in your plan,” Ethyl said. “We just really want to see you.”

“Don’t worry about that,” I said. “I don’t plan on ruining this night just because you suddenly showed up. Besides, we have enough space for everyone tonight.” I looked at Don Emil and Madame Venice. “Let’s go inside.”

They let go of Millie and stood up.

“Before we go inside…” Don Emil looked at me. “I just want to apologize.” He bowed his head in front of me. “I am sorry for what I did. I deeply regret everything and I promise not to do anything to you. Ever again.”

Madame Venice also bowed at me. “I also want to apologize for not threatening you well. It will never happen again.”

I didn’t expect that they would apologize to me. I mean, I never considered any of it since I already knew that they didn’t like me. The only thing I expect them to do is at least treat me casually so we won’t get in any trouble because I don’t want Millie to witness that kind of thing.

“Let’s just be clear on one thing,” I said. “Are you apologizing because you are afraid that it might be the only time you will be with Millie?”

They lifted their heads and immediately shook their heads. “No.”

“If that is your reason, you don’t have to do it,” I said. “This is not the first and last time you will be with my daughter. You can always visit her from time to time. I will not—”

“Millie was just part of the reason why we are apologizing to you,” Don Emil cut me off. “Yes, we don’t want to upset you in fear that it might affect our time to visit Millie again. But we also realized that we did terrible things to you. We regret everything and decided to change. For our family and yours.”

I stared at them.

“Milan…” Madame held my hand. “I know that it will not be easy for you to forgive us. But I assure you that we will not do anything that might hurt you.”

“I can vouch for them,” Erwin said while raising his hand.

We might not have gotten close when I was living in their house but he never treated me badly. He accepted me as his brother’s wife and respected me.

“They regret everything after learning that it was Dad’s fault that Enver couldn’t be with Millie for the past five years,” he added. “And we made them swear to never do any scheme against you.”

“It added some blow after they got another DNA test for Ervin, Vivien’s son, and it resulted negative,” Ethyl added. “We already realized that they have been rooting for a girl who will do nothing but fool our family and regret it.”

I looked at them. And they were all waiting for what I was going to say so I sighed.

“Why don’t you start fixing your issue with him?” I said and pointed at Enver. “He is part of your family so you should be apologizing to him. We can discuss our issue between us some other time.”

Millie stood beside me and held my hand. “My mother is right. You should catch up with my dad first.” And she pulled me into the house.
