Chapter 66: Chapter 66
“Dash!” My eyes widened when I bumped into Dashiel in the elevator. “What are you doing here? I thought you had a meeting?”
I invited him to this vacation but at the last minute, he said he couldn’t come because he had an urgent meeting that he needed to attend.
But from what I can see, he just arrived here since his luggage was still with him.
He scratched his head and sighed. “I managed to finish my meeting so I could join you,” he said. “This rarely happens so I don’t want to miss it.”
“You should have told us,” I said. “I thought you would never make it so Castiel took the room that I reserved for you.”
He smiled and messed up my hair. “It is okay, Milan. I already got my reservation ahead of time because I really have plans to come late. I just didn’t mention it to you so you won’t expect it in case I couldn’t finish my job.”
I stared at him.
These past few days, I noticed that there was something wrong with his mood. He looked like he had some problem but he didn’t want us to worry about him so he still tried his best to become cheerful, even though it is clear to me that he was just pretending.
“M-Milan?”
I sighed and tapped his shoulder. “Please don’t forget that we are always here, okay? Don’t take your problem for yourself. Please let us help you.”
“H-huh?” He tried to look clueless about what I was saying but I could see in his eyes that he wanted to say something but was still hesitant. “I… I don’t know what you are talking about, Milan. I…” He gulped. “I am fine, really.”
I smiled. “If you say so. I was just reminding you that we are your friends and we are always ready to help you.” I exited the elevator when it opened at the floor where our room was located and looked at him. “Have fun and relax. This vacation might help you calm down, even just for a while.”
I don’t want to force him to say something. From his reaction earlier, this is not something that he can just tell others even if we were his friends. So I will just wait until he is ready to share it with us.
I left the elevator without looking back at him and when I turned the corner, I saw someone standing in front of the suite that I and Enver rented for ourselves.
What is she doing here?
I stopped a few steps away from her, and that is when I caught her attention.
Her eyes widened as if she didn’t expect me to see her here and take a step back away from me.
“Do you need anything?” I raised my eyebrows on her. However, I still try my best to stay calm and nice even though I am not really comfortable talking to her.
She is still Enver’s friend and I respect their friendship. Aside from that, she is also the owner of this hotel and I want to be a professional to her.
But that doesn’t mean that I will pretend and become friendly to her.
“Ahm…” She avoided my eyes. “I just want to talk to Enver.”
“He is outside with our daughter.”
Her eyes grew even wider and looked at me. “D-daughter?”
I nodded. I grabbed the doorknob of our suite and opened it. “You may come in if you like.” I didn’t wait for her to answer and just entered the room. I left the door open since I didn’t plan to stay longer.
“You have a child?”
I looked at her and I saw her standing beside the door. “Yeah,” I answered. “She is already five years old.”
Disappointment is all over her face. And to be honest, I don’t like this reaction. “He never mentioned that to me.”
“Well, he also didn’t know about our daughter years ago,” I said. “I hid her from him when I left him and they only just met this year.”
“What?”
“We have had a complicated relationship these past five years.” I took my bag and found the things that I needed. “So he can’t really mention anything to you. I was not really part of his life when he met you.” I found what I needed and looked at her again. “So, do you need something else? Should I call Enver here so you could talk to him alone?”
“N-no!” she immediately said while shaking her head. “Please, don’t think anything bad about this. Your husband and I were just really friends.”
“Really?” I gave her a suspicious look. “Then, why do you even need to go here and look for him?”
She sighed. “Because I know that you are not comfortable with me around you. I can sense it based on how you looked at me earlier.”
I nodded. Not trying to hide that I don’t really like her around me. “Well, you can’t really blame me. We got separated before because of some woman in his life, thinking that she was not a threat in our relationship so I can’t really drop my guard around some woman who is close to him again.”
She sighed. “I promise you that there is nothing between us,” she firmly said. “We are just friends. Nothing more. And I just want to talk to him about you. I was wondering why he didn’t mention you and the fact that we were in the same situation back then.”
I frowned. “What do you mean?”
She breathed deeply. “I actually had a husband,” she said. “Though, the night after our wedding, he suddenly vanished like a bubble. And that incident was the reason why I met your husband.”
“Oh.” I pointed at the door. “I have to go. If you want to talk to my husband, you can join us at our table. It might not be comfortable since you are still a stranger to me but I think I can manage.”
Her face suddenly lightened up after I said that. “I will gladly accept that,” she immediately said. “I will just go back to my office and finish my job, then I will drop by your table.” She didn’t wait for me to say anything and immediately ran away, looking like an excited child.
I shook my head and went out of our suite.
But as I said earlier, I am still comfortable with her but there is nothing wrong if I will let her and Enver talk in front of me.
And if they will do something unnecessary, I will not hesitate to do something to put her in the right place.
When I got back to our table, I saw Millie was already sleeping beside Enver. They just put two chairs for her to lie down while sleeping peacefully in her father’s lap.
“Why did you let her sleep there?” I gave the power bank that I took in our room to Castiel and turned to Enver. “You should take her to our room.”
“She insisted on staying here,” he said. “She still wants to swim once she wakes up so she doesn’t want to go to our room.”
I sighed but didn’t push what I wanted.
We rarely go to the beach so I will let her enjoy every moment we have here.
I took another chair to put beside Enver and sat. “Amethyst came by to our suit.”
He frowned. “Why?”
“She wants to talk to you,” I said. “She didn’t want to go here because she sensed that I was not comfortable with her.”
“Did she tell you what she wanted?”
I nodded. “She was curious about me because you never mention me to her, especially when the both of you had the same situation.”
“Oh.” He nodded. “Well, both of our spouses left us without even saying goodbye but our situation is not actually the same.” She pointed at me. “You left me because you have a reason to leave. But her husband vanished. Without saying goodbye, without even a reason.
“I am actually curious about that,” I said. “She mentioned earlier that her husband suddenly vanished the night after their wedding.”
He nodded. “They were okay before their wedding. Both of their families accepted their relationship and they were both loved by each other’s family. Even their friends were so happy for them. So, they don't really see any reason why her husband suddenly left her.”
“Did they even consider kidnapping?” Ferry asked.
“Yeah?” he answered. “They reported it to the police because none of them knew where he might be. And until now, he is still treated as a missing person.” He sighed. “Some of them believed that he was already dead so they stopped looking for him. Amy and the guy’s family were the only ones who won’t stop looking.”
“I think I also have that case,” Lainz said. “I only got a glimpse of that case so I don’t know the details but the detective that handles this case also can’t find him.”
“Then, they should give up,” Castiel said. “Or search on a larger range. If he is alive and no one can find him, then maybe someone is helping him to stay hidden. Just like how we helped Millan before so Enver can’t find her.”
“This is a different case,” Lainz insisted. “I managed to find Millan, months after she left. That is because she only intended to hide from the people connected to Enver. But Miss Kogenai’s husband just vanished. I think they also reached for Seventh Sector’s service but they couldn’t find any leads on what might have happened to him.”
“Amy also became a suspect in his disappearance,” Enver added, which shocked me. “Rumors were circulating that Amy used her husband to get his family’s company. After their wedding, she immediately killed him and made it look like he left so people don’t suspect that she has something to do with this.”
“What the hell?”
“But that is impossible,” Lainz said. “The public didn’t know this but before their wedding, both parties agreed to sign a prenup agreement. No matter what happens to both of them, they cannot get anything in each other’s assets. Aside from that, the guy’s family is still holding most of their assets and Miss Kogenai’s assets are larger than her husband so she was immediately dismissed as the primary suspect and they focused on looking for him.”
“But she was still being criticized about that, right?” I said. “Even though the police cleared her name, people around her and the public doubt her innocence until they know what really happened to the guy.”
I know how this society works.
Once someone’s name gets involved in this kind of situation, people will never stop judging. Even though it got cleared by the authorities, they will never stop destroying them until they are satisfied.
“I guess that is the main reason why her parents let her stay here and manage this resort,” Enver added. “She doesn't need to interact with anyone.”
I turned my head at the entrance of the restaurant and I saw Amethyst walk right through but before she could even take another step, she was stunned when she realized that there were a lot of people around.
And her eyes slowly filled with fear. Her breathing became unsteady and tried to take a step back.
I know this reaction and I can’t believe that I would witness it to someone else.
I immediately stood up and walked towards her. I even heard Enver call me but I didn’t look back at him until I finally got in front of Amethyst.
She looked at me and her eyes widened. “M-Milan?” She tried to look around but I immediately held his chin and forced her to face me.
“Eyes on me, Amethyst,” I commanded. “Eyes only on me.”
“Milan…” She tried her best to look only at me and after a while, her breathing became steady and slowly calmed down a little bit.
“You should have told me that you can’t handle the crowd.”
Her eyes widened. “Y-you knew?”
I shook my head. “I just noticed your reaction when you entered the place.” I breathe deeply. “Anyway, let’s go to the side restaurant of this resort. That place was not crowded at the time like this, right?”
She nodded.
“Then, go ahead first. I will talk to my friends.” I let go of her chin. “Enver and I will meet you there.”
She smiled and immediately left the restaurant. And I came back to our table.
“What happened there?” Lainz asked.
“Is she…” Castiel tried to ask but I immediately nodded before she even continued. Well, she and Ferry know what I say to that woman and I am sure they understand what I just did to her.
“We are going to talk to her first.” I turned my head to Enver. “Let’s go. She really wants to talk to you.”
I am not that selfish.
Even though I am not comfortable, I can give them some time to talk to each other. They become friends when I am not in Enver’s life so I don’t really have the right to stop them, especially when that woman didn’t even do anything bad.
Besides…
I sighed as I remembered the fear in her eyes earlier. But I immediately shook my head to take out in my mind the flashes of memories that I already buried.
