Chapter 49: Chapter 49

After soaking myself in a warm bath, I immediately took a quick shower. Then, I took the towel that Enver gave to me and went to the walk-in closet where our things are still there.

And I was shocked to see that everything was still in order even though he only spent his time here every weekend.

Even the things that I didn’t bring with me when I left were still here, carefully hanging in the clothes rack as if I didn’t leave the house.

Well, this house is the same place that he provided for us when we decided to live separately from his family. And we spent three years of our marriage here.

I just took a nightie and wore it because I know that I will be spending the rest of the night here before coming down the stairs.

And I can’t help but feel nostalgic as I looked around the house. I remember everything that happened here and I am kinda relieved that most of it is the part where we were both happy with each other.

Well, I can still remember all the things that I saw on his phone but the good things are now overpowering those moments.

I thought before that if I go back here, I will only remember the painful memories I had in this place. But I guess I am wrong.

My eyes caught the pictures at the fireplace. Pictures of the two of us, smiling as if we didn’t have a problem before.

“You never change anything,” I said as I felt his presence behind me. I turned to him and pointed at the pictures. “You didn’t even take this thing off.”

“And why would I do that?” he asked. “The only thing that I have in mind when you leave is to do everything in my power to take you back here. In this house. In my life.” He came to me and hugged me from behind. “These are all memories of our love so why would I change anything about it.” He kissed my nape as we slowly walked towards the kitchen door. “Do you want to eat?”

I nodded. “I am starving.”

He kissed my neck and pulled me inside the kitchen where I saw a lot of food that he cooked. “Not sure what you want to eat so I made a lot.”

“I didn’t know that you can cook,” I said and sat on the chair in front of the table. “And this is good, huh.” I tasted one of the dishes.

“I have been living alone for the past five years, Mi,” He sat in front of me. “I can’t just always eat take-out food, you know.”

“You learned how to cook?”

He nodded and put some fried rice on my plate. “I had to,” he said. “I need to take care of myself so I will be good when I meet you again.”

I nodded and started eating. “So, I will be honest with you.” I looked him in the eyes. “I am still not ready to know what you did to me but I want to start talking about our issues.”

“Milan…”

“I am not forcing myself, just so you know,” I said. “I know that this is now the time to open this topic. Well, after what happened earlier between us.”

He sighed. “Okay. What do you want to know?”

I scratched my head. I am curious about many things but I think everything was connected to the reason why he cheated on me so I don’t really know where to start.

“You can ask me anything, Milan,” he said.

“Well, I guess I have to start with something,” I said. “Did you really cheat on me? Please tell me the truth, okay?”

He sighed again and looked me in the eyes. “To be honest, I am not really sure. Well, not after I saw the files on my phone.”

I frowned. “What do you mean?”

“I don’t remember anything about that night,” he said. “That day, I woke up naked inside a hotel room after a party that Dad organized.”

I shook my head. “I don’t understand.”

He shrugged his shoulders. “I also don’t understand what happened before so I let it all slide. Not until someone claimed that I had slept with her that night.”

“That was the woman in the pictures and videos?”

He nodded. “She is one of my father’s associates and claimed that we met at the party. She also said that we flirted with each other and took it all inside that hotel room.”

“But you can’t remember those times?”

He sighed. “As far as I remember about what happened that night, I was with Dashiel the whole time at the party. We talked with other people but that was all. You know that I am not the type of man who will flirt with anyone. You can ask Dash about it.”

As far as I know, Dashiel is the only friend he has who doesn’t tolerate the bad things that he is doing. So if I ever asked him about that, he would not lie to me.

“Then, this woman might put something in your drink that made you forget everything that happened right after you and Dash separated that night.”

He shrugged his shoulders again. “I don’t know and I can’t be sure so I didn’t believe her at first. I mean, it was just her words. But she didn’t stop bugging me. She kept going to my office and since she knew my dad, she used that opportunity to freely enter the company anytime he wants.”

“Then?”

“That is when I decided to quit working at the main branch,” he continued. “I mean, I am aware that it would only bring problems to me and I had to stop it as soon as possible to make sure that it would not affect our relationship.”

And that is the reason why he started working at the branch company that his father had in this city.

“But that woman didn’t let me escape from her grasp,” he said. “She sent those times that you saw on my phone and blackmailed me that if I wouldn’t end my relationship with you, she would do everything to ruin your career.”

“What?” I placed my palm in front of him. “You still have those files, right? I want to see it again.”

There was a hesitation in his eyes as he looked at me.

“Please, Enver,” I said. “We are already talking about this issue. I want to know everything and make it clear to the both of us.”

He sighed and handed me his phone. “Yes, I still have those files,” he admitted. “You can check it on my file manager.”

I opened his phone and looked for those files. When I saw it, I opened it one by one.

I didn’t pay much attention to it when I first saw these files but now, I realized something about this. I zoomed in on some parts of the photo and showed it to him. “These pictures showed that you were unconscious when she took them.”

“Yeah.” He nodded. “Dashiel came back to the same hotel after I showed him these files and she got the CCTV footage where that woman put something in a drink and told the waiter to give it to me.”

“You were drugged that night.” I was staring now at the pictures where a naked woman is hugging Enver’s naked body. They were lying on a bed but Enver was sleeping and only the woman was smiling at the camera. “This makes it like unintentional cheating. You were only framed by that woman to ruin us.” I put the phone down and clenched my fist.

Damn! What the hell?

“This…” I took a deep breath. “This makes things more complicated than I ever imagined.”

“Hey…” He held my hand. “Please don’t say that. I mean, it is clear that I never cheated on you. That you shouldn’t see yourself as unworthy to be with me.” He came to me and hugged me. “I am so in love with you and I will never do something to hurt you. That is what I want you to know.”

I can’t believe I wasted five years in our lives because of the thing that I didn’t bother to talk about with him. I blamed myself and even Enver for what happened to us. I even ruined our marriage because I didn’t listen to what my heart said.

I closed my heart to him just because of the photos and didn’t give him a chance to explain to me what really happened.

“I want you to know that you may not be perfect but you are the best wife in the world,” he added. “You are so worthy, my wife, and you don’t deserve to be hurt like this.”

Then, I am not the victim here. I am just one of the people who hurt Enver because of my selfishness. And I just gave that woman what she wanted

“Mi…” He let go of the hug and looked at me. “Please don’t think that it is your fault. It is mine, wifey. This is all mine.”

“But…” Tears started to flow down my face. “You have been under so much pressure because of that bitch, yet I added more problems because I refused to confront you.” And now that I thought about it, I realized how heartless I became because I refused to let him become part of Millie’s life.

If only I had confronted him about these things before making those decisions, Millie shouldn’t have experienced growing up without his father.

And Enver should have been with us by the time I learned about my pregnancy. I took away his chance to spend his time with his daughter.

Oh my god! This is my fault!

“Wifey…” He held my face and kissed every part of it. “It is my fault, okay?” I should have just told you about this. You are not just my wife, you are my partner and I should have trusted you in this matter. We should come up with a decision about this together. I shouldn’t have—”

“En…” I held his face and looked at him. “I am sorry. I am really sorry.”

He shook his head. “Please, don’t feel sorry for me. Don’t regret the decision that you made.” He hugged me again. “You made your choice thinking that it would be the best for you and I won’t blame you for that. Let’s just think about the positive outcome that it gives to us.”

I wish it would be as easy as that. I mean, If only I was the only one who suffered from my decision, it would be that easy.

But Millie and Enver deserve the time that I denied for both of them. They deserve to know each other and be with each other.

And I choose to take those away from them because of my decision.

Oh! What have I done?
