Chapter 38: Chapter 38

“Milan!” Enver greeted me as soon as I entered his office. He is holding a folder and he looks happy so I think he received good news. “Milan!”

“W-what is the matter?” I asked. And I didn’t manage to resist when he suddenly hugged me tight. “S-sir Enver?”

He immediately realized what he did and let go of me. “So-sorry about that.”

Shit! I can’t believe he just hugged me. And I can't believe that I miss that hug.

I cleared my throat and faced him. “W-what happened?”

I went inside his office and closed the door because a lot of gossipers that saw Enver hugging me were starting to gather outside.

“Look at this.” He gave me the folder that he is holding.

And I opened it.

“The main branch said that they already sell four of the high-end Anox cars,” he said. “And it is made through the promotion that we just discussed with Mikea and her sister last week.”

“Oh my god!” I covered my mouth to stop myself from screaming.

I didn’t expect that within just a week, we will be able to sell four of our target cars.

“They just finalize the deal earlier,” he added. “And the clients just gave their down payment so they will make the delivery before the day ends.”

“Then, hiring a promoter is the key to our project.”

He shook his head. “It is not just any promoter, Milan,” he said. “It became successful because you first tried that idea with Mikea and Michalella. They are from the middle-class family and they know a lot of people who also came from those families. That is why your idea became perfect for our project.”

Yeah, he is right.

Mikea and Michaella knew a lot of people which is why they managed to bring a lot of potential customers that Raiden needed for our deal with Anox.

“Hey!” The door opened and Dashiel greeted us. “I heard the news. Four cars within this week.” He entered and sat on the sofa. “Then, it means Raiden managed to sell five high-end Anox cars.”

“Yeah,” I said. “We only need to sell three more cars to make sure that the partnership between Raiden and Anox will become permanent. And we still have a lot of time before the duration of the deal ends.”

“Congratulations to both of you,” he said. “But I was thinking. I mean, not that I don’t want you to get the partnership but I was expecting that your father will do something to ruin this project. Did he already accept that you will never go back to him?”

Enver sighed and sat at the edge of his table. “I was also thinking that. It is not like him to stay quiet like this. And I was expecting him to do something right after we announced the partnership,” he said. “He only tried once but after that, there is nothing more.”

I was busy compiling all the transactions that were made by our target clients when I felt the stares of Enver and Dashiel so I turned to them. “Is there something wrong?”

“You did something, right?” Dashiel said. “If there is someone who can stop Enver’s father from ruining the deal that Raiden and Anox, it is only you.”

I chuckled. “Thank you for the compliment but you are thinking too highly of me.”

“I really think highly of you,” they both said. And they didn’t expect that so they looked at each other but shrugged it off and turned to me again.

“So, is it really you?” Enver said.

I shook my head. “No, it is not me,” I said. “You are both aware that I don’t want to do anything related to the older Andrius.”

“Then, who is it?” Dashiel asked. “If it is not you, I am sure you know who is it, right?”

I sighed. “Yeah. It is Ben.”

They frowned. “What?”

I turned to Enver. “Remember the day when you told me that it was really your plan to maintain the standing of Raiden to the point where other companies in the car industry will not think of you as a threat?”

He nodded. “Yeah, I remember that.”

“I told Ben all about it,” I said. “And even he didn’t expect that you are also serious about Raiden so he never really meddles with how you run things.”

“But now…”

I nodded. “When he learned that Enver is now ready to take Raiden to the top of the industry and is now ready to compete with other companies, he started to do his own way to help the company. And he focuses on stopping your father from all of his plans to ruin not only the partnership we had with Anox but the Raiden itself.”

“He is the one who is stopping Dad?”

I nodded again. “He knows your dad very well so he is the only person who can stop him,” I added. “And he is doing this not just because he is part of your executives, but also because he is tired of seeing your father keep getting in your way.”

“What about the other companies that installed spies in and outside of Raiden?” Dashiel asked. “Is he also the one who took care of that?”

I pointed at myself. “That was on me,” I said. “But I was working under his name. I am firing all the people related to the other companies that are leaking our company’s information and banning customers who only get information on how we handle our transactions.”

With the help of Lainz, I managed to learn who are the customers that were only sent to do something bad at Raiden.

And since he already helped me, I took advantage of his service and let him investigate every employee of Raiden and take those people who will harm the company out.

“Now I finally realized why I had to pay too much to your detective friend,” Enver said. “You deal with everyone, from customers to my employees.”

“Well, if you really want to aim high for this company, then you should surround yourself with employees who also have the same goal as you are,” I added. “Not the one that will become the reason why people drag you down.”

Enver stood in front of me. He took the folder from me and put it on the table.

And my eyes widened when he hugged me again.

“What the hell?” I saw Dashiel put his hands on his face trying to cover her eyes but his fingers are not close to each other so he can still see what Enver has been doing.

“W-what the hell are you doing?”

“I am just glad that you are here, Milan,” he said, softly. “You put a lot of effort into the success of Raiden and you did that in just a short time. And to be honest, if you are not here, I don’t think we will be able to do much about what you can do. So, I am really happy that you are here again on my side.”

I want to resist his hug. I want to push him away from me.

It is easy to do since his hug is not that tight.

But I can’t.

Especially now that he is saying that I helped him and his company. That he is thanking me for being by his side. That he managed to reach where he is right now without any hassle because of me.

Those words…

I always wanted to hear those words when we were still together. And he only said those words to me now that we were already separated.

He slowly let go of me and I won’t deny that I have this feeling of not letting him go but I fight that urge.

“Thank you, Milan,” he said, giving me the smile that I always miss about him. He was about to say something but Art entered his office and reminded him about his meeting with the department head.

I don’t need to be there so I decided to stay here while he and Art get out of his office.

“Hey…” Dashiel called me. “Tell me…”

I looked at him.

“You still love him, right?”

I sat on the sofa and smiled at him. “Am I that obvious?”

He shrugged his shoulders. “I am just assuming since most of the time, I kept seeing you with those sad eyes,” he said. “So, I am also assuming that the reason why you can’t forgive him for what he did before is because you still love him and it is still hurt you whenever you remember what happened.”

Well, lying to him will be useless since he already guessed it right. So, I nodded.

“Did you already talk about it?”

I shook my head. “I am really not ready to hear his explanation,” I said. “Or rather, I am scared to hear his reasons. I am scared to hear that he did that because I don’t have something that he wanted.”

“What?” Dashiel exclaimed. “That is not—”

“For the past five years, I kept thinking that if I have everything he ever wanted, he might not look for someone else,” I said. “If I did everything he wanted just for him to be content with me, he might not look for someone else.”

“Milan—”

“I know, I am not perfect,” I added. “I have a lot of things that I don’t have. I have flaws that even I can't change. I am not good at everything, especially when it comes to comforting him whenever he is upset. And maybe that is the reason—”

“Stop it!” Dashiel screamed and my eyes widened.

“W-what?”

“Stop what you are thinking!” he screamed again. “What happened in the past is not your fault! You are not the one—”

“You know what is funny?” I said that made him stop. “Even if you keep telling me that it is not my fault, my heart still can’t accept that. Because I can’t help but keep asking myself those questions like ‘If I did everything on my part, why did he cheat on me?’ or ‘If I did everything he wanted, why did he look for someone else?”

He couldn’t say anything.

“That is the effect on people who got cheated on,” I said. “It makes us question our worth over and over again.”
