David’s P.O.V.
The program started with a prayer and some instrumentals before we finally ate our dinner. I cared about my girlfriend so much that there were times I even spoon-fed her.
She would only smile, and that simple gesture would already make my heart jump. There were plenty of dishes served to us. I couldn’t help but cut my braised beef brisket into small cubes and interchanged it with what was originally given to Helena.
After dinner, the disc jockeys played rock songs, so most male students were banging, rocking, and some were even literally rolling on the dance floor. As long as they were happy and wild, they didn’t care anymore about how they looked.
The rock songs would be followed by love songs, obviously. I had waited for the first song to finish since almost every couple wanted to dance with the opening love song—before I asked Helena to dance with me. The next song that would be played, was sung by a famous romantic balladeer based on its introductory rhythm.
“May I have this dance, my gorgeous Helena?” I offered her my right hand. I even bent in front of her like a knight in a black tuxedo. I was affectionately looking at her like she was the only woman in this world.
She painted a smile on her luscious lips again, then nodded and accepted what I was offering her. “Yeah, sure… m-my handsome Cristoff!”
While feeling a deep resonance of happiness, I ushered her to the dance floor and tenderly placed her arms around my neck. After that, I gently placed mine on her waist with my eyes never leaving her alluring face.
Until now, I was treating her with so much care, and I would never get tired of it. She really mattered to me. Helena appeared to be an expensive doll that I couldn’t bear to break, or else I would have no more reason to live.
While sweating profusely, my eyes lovingly gazed down on her red lips. My mind couldn’t think straight anymore, and my fingers were also trembling. I didn’t know how many times I cleared my throat or swallowed a lump on my throat while my heartbeats were getting louder. I had to control myself, or else I would end up kissing her.

Too many feelings were overpowering me, and I just couldn’t help but reminisce the first few months after the two of us met. It already includes the first time I approached Helena after she was introduced to us as a transferee and how she coldly responded to me. She was so fierce, and we started as enemies.
But even before we got started, she always walked out from me. And her walkout stunts seemed to be just a norm after our accidental kiss. But now? If she walked out again, I would chase her. Even if there would be a price to pay, I would still chase her.
Helena was so hard-headed, but I must admit that she had already got my attention way back then. She was too pretty not to be noticed, and I wasn’t able to get her out of my mind since then. She was a love that came to me without any warning.
She was like a drug that could make me damnably high until I could no longer sleep. But whether I opened or closed my eyes, I could still see Helena’s face. I already memorized every angle of her enticing face, and it was scaring me not to remember it.
Being paired with her during the Annual Camp preparations was indeed a blessing to be thankful for. Who knew that it could be the start of our forever?

The song really suited us. Helena was crazy in her own ways, and every time I was with her, I was always getting out of my mind too. She was driving me insane, but if ever there comes a time that she would have to leave me, I would be lost forever. Losing her was frightening me to the core.
Every time, I was getting bewitched by her. Yes, I was definitely bewitched by her charms, and I just couldn’t resist it. I would be enthralled for the rest of my life, and if it was a kind of spell, I wouldn’t want to get out of it.

Yes, all of me truly loved all of her. No matter what, I would still love her with all my heart. She was my beginning, and I was hoping that she would also be my end, even though it looked like we would still be having a long way to go. And although I wouldn’t be able to get the valedictorian title anymore, I knew I was still winning the fight because of her—because I have her.

Helena was still beautiful even when she was crying, but I always hated the feeling every time she did that. I didn’t want to see her cry again because it would just effortlessly break my heart. Every time she cried, I was literally stabbed.
If only I could take all the pain that she was feeling, I would have already done that. If she was hurt, I would be more than willing to switch places with Helena.
It was so ironic that she became my life, yet at the same time, she was my biggest distraction—a beautiful distraction I couldn’t live without. We were silently dancing, but our hearts were screaming everything out.

All of a sudden, she completely hugged me and leaned her face on my shoulder. Was she thinking what my mind was thinking too? I hugged her back in a way that no one else could separate us while my fingers were playing her bottom curls.
Even if it was truly hard, considering that we were only teenagers right now, I would risk everything just for her to stay with me… and I would make sure that we would be together until the end. Nothing would be hard if you two were willing to keep your promise.

The song had finally ended, and at the same time, I stopped our rhythmic movement with a genuine kiss on her forehead. I looked at her face, then invited her to sit down because I thought she wanted to sit already, but she still kept on hugging me tightly as if she didn’t want to let me go.
Perhaps, Helena only missed me for her to behave like this. I just smiled while sniffing the jasmine scent of her hair.
The two of us were the only ones left here on the dance floor, and people started to tease us with their stares and murmurs. Some students were even screaming that I should kiss her. Thanks to the disk jockey because he saved us as he played another love song, so students began to dance again with their partners.
The two of us remained on the dancefloor while Helena was still caged in my arms. I closed my eyes for a moment to indulge myself and enjoy the opportunity of hugging her… until I was a bit surprised when she suddenly spoke, as her shoulders started to shrug. Now, a nameless dread began to pound in my heart.
“I wish we could stay this way forever. You and me, forever… but it looks like we’re only really up to here. If given a chance, I would love to stay, but I can’t. I love you so much, Cristoff… so much, it hurts both of us. You’ve taught me the real definition of love, and you’ve made me feel how to be special. Until the end, I will always love you. But now, I can no longer fight for you. I’m sorry because I have to let you go.”
Helena then removed my arms away from her, and it made me feel baffled. I just let her do that until I started to feel nothing but blind terror. Just when I thought that nothing could ever remove my smiles for tonight, I was completely wrong. I narrowed my eyes before clearing my throat and finding the right words to tell her.
“Wait, Helena. W-What do you mean? We were just happy a while ago, right? We’re even dancing our hearts together. Now, w-what are you talking about? I’m not even leaving, so why do you have to let me go? I’m confused.” Light tears began to sting the corner of my eyes as I questioned her. I tried to smile, even though I was about to cry.
Helena was now crying while shoving my hands away—not allowing me to stop her tears from falling. Our distance now became a meter, from less than an inch. I didn’t know what was happening to her and why was she acting like this, but what she said next was like a dagger that killed me right at this dreadful moment.
“I’m breaking up with you. Let’s end our relationship, Cristoff!”
