Chapter 45: Chapter 45
David’s P.O.V.
“Can you please let me go and stop this bullshit, Drew! I said I don’t want to go with you! Let me go!” Vanessa was screaming while pulling her left arm away from Drew. From the way I saw it, she was hurting.
“Oh please, Vanessa! Can’t you even hear yourself, huh? After all we’ve been through together, you call this one bullshit? You will surely love what we will do because what’s new, huh? We’re always doing this, so please don’t act innocent here. You used to chase after me!” Drew barked as if he didn’t care about some of the students passing by and was already curious about them. He was irrefutably a loser by hurting his girl for no apparent reason.
Helena immediately noticed my desire to intervene, so she possessively held my right forearm to stop me. It was the first time that she grasped me a little bit tighter, that I could even feel her nails digging against my skin.
“No, Cristoff. Stay here. Just leave them alone and let them sort their thing out on their own.” Helena slightly clenched her jaws.
But my desire to help Vanessa still prevailed, even though Helena’s eyes seemed to be pleading with me not to interfere with Drew and my ex-girlfriend. I didn’t feel anything towards Vanessa anymore, but she seemed to be in trouble. She needed help, and what happened to us months ago was already irrelevant. I already moved on, and I even have Helena now.
Cupping her jaws, I tenderly looked at Helena straight in the eyes before sincerely kissing her nose. “I promise, I’ll be right back.”
There was a trace of mixed dread and anxiety in her green eyes, but I ignored it. I wanted Helena to fully trust me—that everything between Vanessa and I had already been finished. Helena was left with no other choice but slowly let go of my forearm, and that was the cue for me to approach Drew and Vanessa.
“How many times will I tell you that I don’t want to be with you anymore? Let me go, Drew! It fucking hurts,” Vanessa adamantly pulled herself as she squealed louder, making Drew’s clutch somewhat loose. She was almost sitting on the ground while desperately pulling her wrist away from Drew. It was a rough action.
“What is wrong with you, bitch? Whether you like it or not, you will come with me!” Drew loftily shot back, still not yielding from dragging Vanessa. Drew was acting like Vanessa was his possession, and he was controlling her. He obviously couldn’t accept the fact that she didn’t like him anymore.
“Is there a problem here?” I asked them before seriously looking at Drew. I tried to sound nonchalant after. “Let her go,” I ordered him, and that was when Vanessa’s eyes suddenly twinkled with anticipation. I was able to catch a glimpse of it before staring again at Drew.
“Dave?” With all her remaining strength, Vanessa successfully jerked her left hand away from Drew. She immediately approached me and looped her arm across mine, but I immediately took my arm away from her.
“Why do you care? Will you please mind your own business? Don’t even bother yourself with this, nerd! I’m still talking to my girlfriend, and you don’t have any right to intervene!” Drew shouted at me.
“Don’t fool yourself, Drew. I’m no longer your girlfriend, and it has been months already since we’ve parted ways!” Vanessa cried.
“That’s it, Drew. Maybe you can just let go of Vanessa. Just leave and don’t cause any more trouble here,” I calmly said. My eyes narrowed when Drew just sardonically laughed at me like a piece of shit.
“Why are you interfering, nerd? You and Vanessa are already done, aren’t you? Don’t tell me that you still like this whore?” Drew pointed at Vanessa’s face then turned to me again.
“Why? Do you love her tits, huh? Those are mine already! And, are you a martyr? You were even fooled by this wench! Don’t you remember what happened in the garden? Right before your eyes, I’m ravaging this bitch!”
I could still remember what happened way back then. Vanessa cheated on me, yes… but it wasn’t enough reason for Drew to call her names like she was a woman of pleasure or a prostitute in front of some students here.
“Yes, I can vividly remember. So, how about you? Don’t you remember what I told you that time, asshole? Oh, what was that again? That when you showed up in front of me again, I would frantically break your face? Sounds pretty cool, right? Try me,” I gritted my teeth.
Now, my stares were murdering him. I exercised my knuckles while slowly approaching Drew… until he slowly stepped back in the process.
“Fuck! We’re not yet done here, Vanessa! You better hide next time because your nerd ex-boyfriend won’t be able to stop me. Hell, damn it!” Drew condescendingly remarked before he finally left.
I was about to leave and would no longer pay attention to her anymore when Vanessa dramatically hugged me. “I was right all along that you would save me from him. You can’t just stand around the corner doing nothing. Thank you, Dave. You’re still concerned about me—” I cut off the rest of what she was going to tell me when I distastefully removed her hug from me.
“Don’t misunderstand what I did, Vanessa. Don’t even think that you’re still important to me, leading me to save you. If it happens that you’re a different girl, I will still help you because I know that it was the right thing to do,” I clarified before turning my back on her.
“At least, you helped me. It’s already a big deal to me… knowing that you couldn’t just watch me on being abused by Drew, Dave.” I heard her say.
Determined to leave and go back to where my heart belonged now, I never looked back. I continued walking and just left Vanessa. When I returned to the exact spot where Helena and I had been earlier, she was already gone.
Ricardo hasn’t arrived yet. Where is she now?
That was when I decided to get inside the campus and searched for Helena. Since it was already closed to dusk, there were not as many students as earlier wandering around.
Soon enough, I immediately saw Helena sitting on one of the benches at the entrance of the first building. She was actually resting her back against the wooden bench with a bored face, yawning.
Helena was also browsing her smartphone while slouching her feet. She was indisputably pissed off by what I did, but I knew that she would understand me.
“Are you done playing the knight-in-shining-armor role for your flirtatious ex-girlfriend?” Helena indignantly opened her mouth as soon as I approached her.
Helena might have already memorized my presence without even looking at me. I gently held one of her hands, but she just arched her left eyebrow and shoved me away.
“I’m sorry, Helena. Please don’t get mad at me. Don’t be jealous, hmm?” I begged her with matching puppy eyes, prompting me to act so handsomely in front of her.
“Wow! What are you talking about, Cristoff? And who is jealous? I told you to leave them alone, right? But you’re not listening to me. Am I not your girlfriend? Now, how would you expect that I would easily give in with all your craziness here? It’s even my birthday today, but you couldn’t even grant a simple wish of staying with me!” Helena paused for a while before she continued on ranting.
“And acting cute, huh? Duh! Stop showing your puppy eyes because those won’t ever matter to me. What you’re doing is damn and freaking annoying! It would be better if I would just pluck those irritating eyeballs of yours!” Helena was still outraged, but she still looked gorgeous. She was like a furious angel—my beloved green-eyed angel.
I sat next to Helena, but she fiercely moved away from me. She was about to stand up when I pulled her closer to me before resting her head on my left shoulder. She tried to get rid of my sweet gesture, but because I was stronger than her, she wasn’t able to and just hunched her posture.
“Stop fretting, Helena. Vanessa was already a part of my past. It’s you who I’m with right now and for the next days to come. I didn’t save her because she’s still important to me. I saved her because I knew it was the right thing,” I began explaining to her.
“If there would be another woman in her place, I would still help. What if my younger sister would be in the same situation? I don’t want to state this as an example, but what if… it was you? I’m sorry if I made you feel upset over saving my ex-girlfriend, hmm?” I cupped her jaws, and Helena was still pouting her lips—intentionally evading my stares.
