Chapter 44: Chapter 44
David’s P.O.V.
After hours of playing various musical instruments in the Music Room, our tummies hungrily screamed for food. We decided to eat lunch at the cafeteria, and after that, we headed straight to the parking lot where my motorbike was parked.
Being smart, I perfected the written and actual exam for teenager motorcycle licensing here in Quego Del Mar, so I immediately got a license at the age of sixteen. Thanks to my sister, Diane, who bought me a motorcycle as my birthday gift.
“Hmm, w-where are we going?” Helena asked me out of astonishment. I noticed how she stammered.
“You’ll see when we get there, but first… you have to wear this,” I told her before giving Helena the red helmet I used to carry in my top box while wearing my black helmet. It was a good thing that my elder sister liked the color red as well.
Sometimes, I drove my sister to either school or her work using my motorcycle. Before she met her rich boyfriend, I always pretended as my sister’s boyfriend because I didn’t want her to be catcalled while walking down the streets. Like Helena, she was damn gorgeous too. I actually looked mature than my sister—even taller than her.
“Cristoff, it’s my first time… r-riding a motorbike. I already told you about our car accident last year, right? I-I’m scared, what if—” Helena protested as the vibrant colors suddenly left her exquisite face.
Cutting her off, I swiftly held her hands before I tightly secured her helmet, even double-checking if the strap was locked under her chin. “Don’t be. I promise to slow down, and I won’t ever leave you, okay? Trust me, Helena. We will face your fears together, and I won’t let you feel any harm,” I said with assurance.
“Okay, I trust you.” Helena sighed out of hesitation.
“Great! Now, I already have my OBR.” I winked at her and gave her a smile that could reach both of my ears.
“OBR?” Helena questioned. Even though she was wearing a helmet, I could see that her forehead creased into a furrow.
“Official back ride,” I chuckled. “Aside from my sister, you’re the first one to ride at my back.” I playfully poked her nose before I closed the visor. That was the truth because I never experienced driving my motor with Vanessa before.
She giggled, but I knew that she was still dreaded with unknown terror. I couldn’t blame her, though. Athena died in a car accident, and it was indeed hard for Helena to remember that unfortunate event where she lost her sister.
After I climbed on my motorcycle, I offered her my shoulder for support. Helena followed and settled on her seat then. What I loved the most was when she firmly hugged my waist.
That was when I safely headed my motorcycle to a place I knew Helena would like. I was indeed fast, but still complying with the required speed limit when it came to riding my motorbike.
But since I was with her, I should be careful more than a thousand times. Helena’s safety was my top-most priority, and she must go home completely unscathed today, or else her father would be undoubtedly mad at me. She was his unica hija, and he would most likely kill me if something bad would happen to Helena.
Soon after, the two of us arrived at the Enchanted Realm amusement park. I removed my helmet as soon as I parked at the motorcycle slot. Then, I helped Helena get off my motorbike and carefully removed her helmet when she was already standing on the ground.
She gaped at everything, and I could see the excitement in her eyes when we both entered the entrance, with our fingers filling the gaps of one another. She probably didn’t expect us that we would go to this place.
“Would you like to ride the Ferris Wheel with me?” I asked her.
“Oh! You don’t even have to ask, Cristoff. I would love to,” Helena replied with her glittery eyes, even clinging to my arm like a child.
We immediately bought two ride-all-you-can tickets. It was a good thing that I had saved enough for this date. Helena offered to pay for the tickets, but I didn’t allow her. We then began strolling around the area to tour the renowned Enchanted Realm with our hands not leaving each other.
We first rode the Ferris Wheel. Because we were just the two of us, we couldn’t be seated side-by-side. We had to face each other to balance our weight inside the windowless gondola.
The beautiful white clouds were drifting in as if we would be able to catch each of them. It was a good thing that the afternoon sunlight wasn’t that strong for us to fully enjoy this day, without burning our skins. I didn’t care about mine, but I was taking care of Helena’s because it was rosy-white.
When we had gotten to the top of the Ferris Wheel, that was when I brought out a small branded teddy bear from my bag and handed it to Helena. I had to save and pack my lunch for a few weeks in order to buy it for her.
“Did you think I already forgot your birthday? Why would I? Happy birthday, Helena. From now on, I will always look forward to more birthdays that you will be celebrating with me. I love you,” I declared my love as I reached out to her and gently kissed her right hand.
Helena pressed her lips together and almost cried at what I did. I knew that she might be expecting me to greet her first thing in the morning, but I had to come up with a surprise for her.
Now, she wasn’t expecting all of these, and it was what I exactly wanted to happen. I wanted her to get used to my unpredictable surprises for her.
Helena accepted my teddy bear gift for her using her left hand. “I really thought that you already forgot my birthday, Cristoff. I hate you! I hate you so much!” Even a little farther away from me, she still found a way to hit me, and it was too late for me to shun my legs when her right palm already made contact with my lap.
Wait? Did I do something wrong?
“I hate you because you’re making me cry! Damn, I really hate surprises. You know what? You’re so annoying!” Helena grumpily remarked, but then, I saw her lips formed a beatific smile.
“Then, let me annoy you for the rest of our lives,” I told her with my right hand reaching out for her left cheek. Hadn’t we need to balance our weights here, I would have hugged her earlier by the time our gondola car reached the peak of the Ferris Wheel.
We were already walking towards the Sinking Boat when I got stunned because she suddenly stopped, tiptoed, and kissed me on my right cheek. “Thank you, Cristoff. I wasn’t really expecting this for my birthday. I love you.”
“I love you too, but can you also kiss me here?” I pointed out and licked my lips.
Helena poked my chest. “Well, let me think about it… you, crazy pervert!”
She laughed in response while dazzlingly flipping her shiny hair. I could feel that she was also enjoying our time together, and right now, I couldn’t ask for more.
We just continued our walk together. I held Helena’s left hand, and like earlier, I was glad that she did not refuse. No one even knew us here. And just in case people looked at us, why would they even care?
We rode a lot more after the Wheel of Destiny and Sinking Boat, but we were not able to ride the Lost in Space extreme ride because my girlfriend was scared of trying a roller-coaster ride with 360-degree turns. When we got tired, we just went to the midway games and watched the players.
The two of us took a seat on a bench, and I affectionately placed Helena’s head on my right shoulder. Our hands were still clasping on one another. “Next time… we will go to Disneyland,” I told her, full of promise. Now, I couldn’t get more excited to reach my dreams.
That was indeed impossible right now, but I would do everything I could, to go to at least one of the Disneylands in the world with her. It wasn’t harmful to have big dreams, I just needed to work hard to fulfill those dreams, and I would definitely make those dreams come true… with her.
Helena did not utter a word. We just stayed in this position while her eyes were closed. I stroked her long and stunning hair, which had turned even more brownish in the sunlight, then held her by the shoulder.
Everything about Helena was gorgeous. I felt like I was the luckiest man alive to have her, even though I didn’t have anything to offer.
It was already five o’clock in the afternoon when we decided to go back to school. Ricardo would still have to fetch Helena here. While waiting, I taught my girlfriend the various features of her latest smartphone when it came to photography. I only had a cheap phone with a camera, but it didn’t hinder me to explore and research new ones.
The pictures I took of her when we were in the Enchanted Realm were all incomparable, but the pictures she took of me were quite awful. I honestly told her about it, and Helena couldn’t help but pout her lips, making me steal again some kisses in the process.
While treasuring every moment with her, I had unearthed a greater joy than I would have ever known just by looking at Helena. She couldn’t get more blithesome because it was only today she learned about bokeh or those blurred background effects, multi-shots, boomerang, slow motion, and time-lapse.
There was unexpectedly one photo when I kissed her left cheek, and she was stunned. We were quietly taking more selfies in the parking lot and even converting some of our videos to cute GIF formats when we saw Drew harassing Vanessa.
