Chapter 46: Chapter 46

David’s P.O.V.

All I wanted was for Helena to believe and forgive me without any suspicious thoughts. I must admit that our actions here already made us forget that we were still at school, but I didn’t care anymore.

“The moment I declared my love for you, you already took my heart with you. Just always remember that you are the only woman for me, and I would never look at anyone else! I love you so much, Helena… and nothing can stop me from loving you.”

My heart was beating faster while elucidating my side to her. While praying that she would understand me, the number of seconds on my wristwatch was taking forever.

Helena ended up sighing, and if she wouldn’t believe me, I didn’t know how to convince her anymore. It made me worry even more because I didn’t know her thoughts. And now, how I wished that I could read the minds of people.

Uneasiness occupied my nerves because I knew that everything was still unsettled. Helena was still glowering because of disappointment. I wanted her to speak her mind, be open, and be honest in telling me how she exactly felt. After all, communication and understanding were the keys to every successful relationship.

No matter what, I wouldn’t give up on persuading her to believe me. I benignly placed my forefinger on her chin and gently moved her face so she could look at me.

“Look at me, Helena… I love you so much, okay? And I don’t want us to argue just because of this! Words are not enough to describe how I truly feel for you. You are my world, and I think I could no longer live without you. No matter what happens, I won’t ever stop loving you. All I want is for you to trust and understand me, hmm?” I beseeched her.

“I’m sorry, Cristoff. I trust you, but frankly speaking, I don’t trust her!” Helena apologetically said at first, but her voice hardened when she was referring to Vanessa. “I know that what you did was the right thing to do, and at some point, I’m proud of you… but sometimes, can you please stop being a gentleman?” Helena’s green eyes were pleading with me as she continued.

“We’ll never know what that Drew may do to you next time. What if he plans to take revenge and just corners you out when you’re completely alone? What if he talks to his friends so they will attack you? What are you going to do? I’m just worried about you. I don’t want you to engage yourself in any kind of trouble!” Helena softly touched my cheek, and I just found myself melting.

My girlfriend was worrying, and even though she would never admit it, I knew that she was also being eaten by jealousy. I smiled because no matter how unpredictable the girls were, I had to understand her.

She was only concerned about my well-being. I was about to answer Helena’s queries when we heard the sound of her ringtone. It was the song that she composed for me, which was entitled, Forever with You.

Ricardo called and said that he was already in the parking lot. That was the cue for us to rise to our feet and head straight towards the direction of their car.

Leaving my motorbike at school, I joined Helena in the backseat. I would just come back later and get it. Since it was her birthday today, I decided to drop by at their mansion to at least pay respect to Mr. Delgado. Since her father was not the driver, we were free to hold hands—but still under a car pillow.

“Are we okay now?” I asked her while squeezing her hand.

“Hmm, sort of. How can I say ‘no’ to those puppy eyes of yours?” Helena almost whispered, which finally made the weight lift from my soul. Happiness danced through my thoughts, deleting all the anxiety I felt a while ago. I smiled with relief, now getting excited about what would happen next.

Minutes passed, and we finally arrived in their mansion. I was already anticipating my girlfriend’s reaction when I saw Helena cover her mouth, with her eyes glinting with pleasure.

“Oh my God!” Helena chirped, still couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

Sitting on her favorite bench in their landscaped garden area was a peach three-feet tall teddy bear—the mother of the Baby Bear I gave Helena earlier. It was facing the beautiful fountain, and the lavishing sound of crystal-clear water seemed to coordinate with her reaction.

Helena was indeed shocked by what I did. She was impressed as she began to breathe slowly. Now, there was an added display to her little piece of heaven.

Then, she turned her attention to me with a puckered forehead. “How did you manage—”

“Surprise!” I cut her off. “Of course! If there is a Baby Bear, there should be a Mama Bear too! Hmm, I can’t give Daddy Bear for now, but in the future, I’ll also give him to you. Happy birthday again, Helena! I love you so much,” I whispered the last five words to her.

“Hey, I hate you! You’re really annoying!” Helena’s light tears seemed to be unearthed at the corners of her eyes before she shrugged her shoulders and spanked me on my forearm.

What else have I done?

“I really hate what you’re doing to me, but I appreciate everything. I must say that you’re one hell of annoyingly perfect, and it beautifully messes us up. Thank you, Cristoff. I love you too, but the truth is I want to bite you,” she almost whispered the words.

Helena’s eyes were almost blurred with tears behind her new glasses. If only I could hug her here, I could have done that. It would be promising to relax here and just cage her in my arms.

“Well, you will start to love surprises from now on. Alright, I think I better go home. I still have to get my motorbike from school. I just came here with you because I wanted to see your reaction in catching Mama Bear here… and I loved watching you here,” I said softly.

I was staring at Helena in a way like nothing else matters while she was busy cuddling Mama Bear. She even brought Baby Bear and zestfully placed it on Mama Bear’s lap. I loomed over her and was about to hold her hand when someone cleared his throat from my back.

“Hmm… you can stay for dinner, David. I asked the maids to prepare and cook Helena’s favorite foods for her birthday,” said Mr. Delgado.

“Thanks for the offer, Uncle, but you don’t have to bother. It’s time for me to go home. Also, now is the time for Helena to celebrate her birthday with you alone since we have been together at school all day long.” I pressed my lips into an awkward smile because nervousness was reigning over me, knowing that I was lying.

“Okay, if you say so… then I won’t be able to stop you from doing your next errands. Would you like Ricardo to drive you back to school?” Mr. Delgado asked.

“No, Uncle. It’s fine, I’ll just commute.” I waved my hands in front of him, but there was a realization at the back of my head.

Did Mr. Delgado hear me saying earlier that I still have to go and get back my motorbike at school? If that was the case, then he could have heard my whole conversation with Helena! Tsk, I hope not.

Congratulations, David! Well, you’re being careless! My subconscious derisively screamed at me. It was as if warning me that it would be all my fault if Helena’s father would soon find out everything.

“Alright then. Be careful on your way. Helena, after you accompanied him out of the gate, get back inside, and I have something for you.” Mr. Delgado seriously commanded his daughter using a quite baritone voice.

“Yes, Dad… one second, I would just leave these here,” Helena replied before fixing Mama Bear’s and Baby Bear’s positions on the bench.

That was when Helena’s father immediately entered their house. It looked like he was in a bad mood, or maybe, he was only tired from work.

“Thanks again for this day, Cristoff. I enjoyed everything, most especially the time I spent with you and the surprise gifts! I promise to take care of them. I’ll see you tomorrow, so bye for now.” Helena escorted me out of their vast gate.

She was about to get inside again when I swiftly wrapped my right hand on her waist and pulled her to face me. She quizzically looked at me, but I didn’t care anymore if someone could see us here because I could no longer control myself. I quickly kissed her on the lips, and Helena’s cheeks were immediately stained red.

“Birthday kiss,” I declared with an impish glee and a playful wink before I finally walked away.

Author’s Note: Just so you know that I used to mix my stories with true-to-life events. Mama Bear and Baby Bear actually exist in real life.

These are two of my teddy bears given by my husband on November 12, 2010—the same way David gave them to Athena. You can check them out on my Facebook page: Nihc Ronoel. I recently uploaded them.

November 12 was not my birthday, but it was the day when I said ‘yes’ to him to become his girlfriend after his two weeks of courtship. Yeah, it all started in just two weeks, but we were now keeping it for almost eleven years. ♡
