Chapter 139: Chapter 139
DAHLIA:
My memories weren’t fully back yet, but I get it. I get that I was close to this boy before me…
Even the way we talked to each other despite not knowing anything about him due to my amnesia felt very comforting. In fact, it was so comforting that I lowered my guard until it was too late. He had already started to kiss me…
It wasn’t even a friendly kiss. It was similar to the kisses Naskan, I mean Tristan, and I had shared before.
“Wait, w-what are you doing, Kaist,” I asked exasperatedly as I drew away after that kiss.
“If he doesn’t want your child, I do. I would love him, Dahlia… I would love him as much as I had loved you all these years,” he confessed.
“Kaist… Just what exactly are you proposing?”
“Leave your husband, Dahlly… You, me, and our baby – let’s build a life together.”
Moon Goddess, just what kinds of tricks were you up to this time?
It wasn’t even a day after I had left my husband, but now, my best friend and ex-fiance was proposing back to me…
How weirder can this day get?
“Don’t worry, Dahlia… Take your time to think about it. Father and I still needed to rescue my mother and sister first… Until then, I’ll come back for you in the village you’ve chosen to settle in and renew my proposal,” Kaist said.
Come to think of it, it wasn’t a bad proposal actually. I was already determined to travel and settle on the next village we encounter. I’d probably have to look for work and look for a suitable accommodation until I give birth to my baby safely.
That was my original plan, which I shared with Kaist. Somehow, he had managed to squeeze his own proposal within that plan.
If someone kind and comfortable around to be with like Kaist becomes my baby’s father, wouldn’t that be nice?
There’s only one problem though… I didn’t love Kaist.
Even without my memories, I knew I didn’t love him. Even when he kissed me so tenderly, there was nothing in there. No spark, no feelings… Just nothing…
How then can I be so selfish to accept him as my chosen mate when I won’t be able to love him even half of how I loved Tristan?...
Kaist went straight towards my lips again, but I had successfully placed my hand in between him and his kisses this time.
“Kaist, please stop… Let’s not do this.”
“But, why?”
Looking at Kaist’s puppy eyes like this, it seemed like I would be a criminal if I rejected his offer…
However, it had to be done.
“Kaist, you and I -”
“That’s right. You and this wolf are not fated mates, so all you need to do is to scram!”
Because of the heavy rain, the sky was dim. I looked up at the figure coming closer to us, and I knew it was too late.
My heart sank. Tristan has found me again, and this time, it wasn’t only him.
He was accompanied by his lover and the rogues and vampires who captured us.
He snarled and ran head on into Kaist, who was sitting just inches away from me. Kaist was barely able to hold his snout and fend him off after he charged full force at us.
“Stop it,” I screamed as Tristan tried to sink his enormous fangs at Kaist’s neck.
“What’s this? You’re cheating on me already, mate?”
I could feel the hatred in Tristan’s voice. How could he not? I was after all her mother’s killer.
However, the hatred he was showing now - didn’t it feel like double the amount he had shown me last night?
What has happened for him to behave like this?
“Long time no see, scum! Just what on earth had you been doing to Dahlia,” Kaist said with equal loathing for my husband, his eyes nearly channeling his wolf.
“Well, well, if it isn’t our useless she-wolf… Did you have fun pretending to run away from us,” Samalah butted in, her eyes glistening with spite.
“Funny how you should say that. As far as I’m concerned, I woke up and found that I was kidnapped,” I retorted back, looking at Tristan in a spiteful way as he and Kaist continued with their squabble.
“Enough, she wolf! You are coming back with us,” Lord Irvan shouted.
“Hah, over my dead body,” I said to the vampire lord who was the head of this group.
Lord Irvan went towards me as if intending to drag me away, but just like lighting, Tristan and even Kaist had bared themselves in front of me.
“You! Don’t you dare touch my mate,” Arthur hissed at Lord Irvan.
“Step aside, wolf! Remember that you are our prisoners, not our guests!”
“You’re wrong. You and your men are mere escorts! If you want us to come peacefully with you, you shall not lay a hand on Dahlia, do you understand?!”
Even when he learned the truth of me being a murderer, Tristan still wanted the men to keep their distance away from me… I would have been touched have I not known that he hated my baby enough to wish him dead.
“Now, now, gentlemen, don’t fight… We could discuss this amicably,” Samalah said, taking the arm of Lord Irvan.
She then turned towards me and opened her honeyed tongue. “Dahlia Hurst, are you going to come with us, or are we going to kill the prince and the old man he brought along?”
I clenched my fist. Samalah – this she-wolf – she really knows how to threaten!
“Go ahead and do your best,” Kaist said in a murderous tone. “Try to harm even a single strand of Dahlly’s hair, and see that all hell would break loose!”
Kaist, just what was he doing?
There were five of them plus Samalah and her powers, and there were only two of us, not to mention that Tristan would probably be against us too in a heartbeat…
“You’re right, Prince Kaist. How about we kill just the old man with you, hmm? After all, if we kill the king and the prince of Talandor now, wouldn’t that just speed up what we were aiming for?”
I looked at Samalah’s menacing grin. Did what she say was true?...
Her real intention was to kill the king and Prince Kaist?
Just what in the world was she really planning?
