Chapter 140: Chapter 140
DAHLIA:
“How about we kill the old man with you, Prince Kaist? After all if we kill both of you, wouldn’t that just speed up what we were aiming for?”
My heart was beating wildly in my chest. We were caught in a trap, and the saddest thing about it is if it wasn’t for me, Kaist and the king wouldn’t be in this position…
“Samalah, what do you mean? Do ou want to make yourself an enemy of Talandor,” I breathed out.
She laughed exasperatedly. “I was never a part of Talandor. They drove me out, so there’s no point in being sentimental. This is just sweet payback for what they did to me and my mother…”
“So what is it going to be,” Samalah said malevolently at me, “Are you coming with us, or are we going to force you?”
“Neither.” Just as I spoke my last words, I aimed for the roof at one side of the cave and set it on fire.
Smoke quickly filled up the cave. I ran towards the king’s side and began picking him up.
“Kaist, we got to run!” I shouted.
I could sense someone coming closer, but I couldn’t see clearly amidst the smoke. I shoved the king’s limp body behind me, intending to attack.
A strong arm suddenly took hold of my wrist. I thought it was Kaist, but it was Tristan in his half–wolf form who came towards me. He held a hand against my mouth.
‘Don’t make a sound. I’ll get you two out,’ he said through the mind-link.
I shot him a fierce look. ‘How about Kaist?’
‘He has gone. He’ll meet us at a rendezvous point. Hurry!’
I held back a sigh as I quickly deliberated the situation.
Can I really trust Tristan? Honestly, I don’t want to come with him. I just want Kaist and his father to be safe away from Samalah’s grasp.
‘Alright, you take the king to Kaist. I’ll hold them here and distract them.’ I said to Tristan.
His eyes opened wildly. ‘No!’
‘Don’t be absurd! We haven’t got much time,’ I reasoned out. ‘If you don’t bring me with you, they certainly won’t follow you. I’ll distract them... You take them and come back for me, alright?’
Tristan was still clasping my wrist when seemingly out of nowhere in the thick smog that had formed, Lord Irvan pulled me by the hair upwards.
“Dahlia!” I saw Tristan raise his claws in midair towards my attacker, but the vampire leader made sure that I was on the way.
“Back off, Shadow wolf, or this woman dies,” I heard Lord Irvan roar.
Tristan still wore a look of utter hatred, but he lowered his paw against me.
“Lord Irvan, please let them go. Y-You only need me right? I’ll come with you. Please let everyone else go,” I pleaded.
“Lady, it’s not up to you to decide what happens to anyone here.” As the vampire leader said this, he swiftly aimed his spear towards Tristan and pierced him at the very center of his heart.
“Tristan,” I screamed in pain as I saw the blade glide into his flesh. My heart felt like shattering to a million pieces as he fell into the ground.
“No!”
Lord Irvan dragged me effortlessly away, my eyes still fixed at Tristan’s body on the ground. I thrashed about as he pulled me towards the mouth of the cave where the smoke was the thinnest. We eventually reached the outside of the cave, rejoining his men and Samalah.
“No, please! Tristan!”
“Go ahead, and scream once more, and I’ll make sure I cut you up next time to get that blasted stone inside of you!”
I turned my head towards him and spat at his face. “You’re an animal!”
He immediately slapped me so hard that I rolled against the ground.
“No more games this time, she-wolf! You’re testing my patience! The next time you try acting up like this, I’ll send you and your unborn child to hell!”
Before I could pull myself up from the ground, we heard the earth rumble underneath us. I looked once more at the cave, and saw another horrible sight.
The cave we had been in a few second ago collapsed, and still inside it was my mate and the old king!
“Tristan!”
I tried to get up and crawl towards the now missing entrance, but my left arm was pinned at my back by someone heavy.
“Just where are you going?!”
“Please… Tristan is in there,” I whispered, hot tears coming down like waterfalls from my eyes. ”Please help him… You’ve got to help him!”
“She-wolf, do you not know the inconvenience your mate had cost us? It’s actually a relief that he’s dead!”
“N-No,” I mumbled. “He’s not dead yet!… You can still rescue him!… Please…”
Lord Irvan pressed my arm more firmly against my back snap. “This will serve as a lesson for you, she-wolf. If you hadn’t set that cave on fire in the first place, he could have still been alive.”
“He’s still alive. Please, I beg you…”
“Beg – so you do know how to do that, don’t you?” His hands tightened on my arm even further that I actually heard my bones begin to crack.
I screamed in pain. Lord Irvan responded by putting a knee against my back and adding more pressure to my now broken arm.
“Did you know what will happen to us had the two of you really succeeded in escaping? We could have lost our heads!”
All I could do was to cry some more. The longer we delay on rescuing Tristan, the least his chances were of survival…
“Beg and say it more clearly! Make it more believable, she wolf,” Lord Irvan breathed against my ear.
“Please…”
“What are you doing? Let her go,” I heard Samalah’s voice not too far away.
“No! If she’s going to be the king’s pet soon, she’ll need to learn some manners, and the first one is to know how to properly beg for mercy!”
As soon as he said this, he let go of my hands. I thought he was finally releasing me when suddenly, a painful kick landed at the right side my body.
I rolled in pain. Another kick had landed on my lower stomach.
Just then, a sharp pain started to radiate at the base of my tummy where the kick had landed. I was feeling dizzy, and it took much effort for me to move. However, it didn’t stop me to grab the lower part of my body where there pain was at its worst.
My body convulsed in fear. I discovered blood in my hands…
More and more blood came out, spreading itself in the ground. Where was it coming from?
It was coming from in between my legs.
