Chapter 138: Chapter 138
KAIST:
It took us until the wee hours of the morning for Dahlia and I to complete our stories.
I was able to tell Dahlia who I was and what had happened so far in a brief and concise manner, as well as what I have last known of her whereabouts.
“So what you’re saying is that we were betrothed once, but I ran away and married Count Abell, right?”
There was an incredulous look in her eyes. I nodded.
“So, why didn’t you spat on me then? Don’t you hate me for it?...”
I looked back at Dahlia for a long time. “I don’t hate you. You just followed your heart back then. We’ve made up after the failed wedding… At least now it seemed you have become more aware of your husband’s schemes.”
She eyed me sideways. Did she buy my excuse?
Despite the raging emotions I still carry in my heart for Dahlia, I couldn’t tell her the truth.
I couldn’t hate her. Even if she tears my heart into shreds, I wouldn’t be able to hate my fated mate…
She could only sigh. “The moment I saw you back in that cliff, somehow, I felt like you were a good person. I’m glad to know that my judgment still has not dulled to the extreme.”
She sighed as she said this. She had just finished telling me that her mate lied to her when she lost her memories. He pretended to be a different person, and afterwards, they got into a huge fight, which made her decide to separate from him.
I shook my head. That Tristan Abell was really a conman, just like I had imagined…
“So where are you going now?”
“Father and I are going back to Laudicia. He thinks that that is where the kidnappers are headed.”
I was partly glad that Dahlia lost her memories. It was actually easier to tell her the truth about what I recently discovered about my mother, my father, and the sister I’ve never met until some days ago...
I told her about being a Shadow wolf too. It was a big secret, and after I told her about it, it was as if a heavy weight was lifted off from my shoulders.
Just like old times, Dahlly just sat there. She listened to my secrets and never judged me nor looked down at me.
Once I finished, she told me another secret too.
“I see you’re a Shadow wolf now… Surprise… I just became one too…”
I couldn’t believe my ears! In the weeks we were away from each other, Dahlly and I had been through so much already!
In the nineteen years we were confined inside the kingdom of Talandor, nothing like this had ever happened to us. Just what kind of world did the two of us live in before?
She recounted a memory the red ruby stone showed her when she was little.
“Are you saying that your father, Duke Hurst, must have murdered a Shadow wolf just to get her spirit stone?”
Dahlia nodded. “It seemed like so… How else can he get part of the red ruby stone in his hand if it wasn’t the case?”
“Actually, Dahlia… I have a confession. I’ve known you had a spirit stone all along, but that stone could not have been the spirit stone of Count Abell’s mother…”
“And why is that?”
“Because it was my own mother’s spirit’s stone – Merlissa Lyon!”
We sat there feeling dumbfounded.
“Hey… So, if it was your mother’s spirit stone is inside of me, then the red ruby must be someone else’s spirit stone, right,” Dahlly said nervously. “It’s either than or… you and Tristan must be brothers…”
My skin crawled. How can I be brothers to the wolf I hated the most?
I grinned wildly back at Dahlly and scratched my head. “I must admit that a lot of wild things happened around us for the past weeks, Dahlly, but that wolf being my brother?... I think that’s about the most outrageous thing I have ever heard!”
Of course it’s outrageous! No I take it back… That crazy wolf being my brother – this was just downright absurd…
Dahlia grinned weakly back at me. “You’re right… But, do you want to hear something more outrageous, Kaist? What if I told you I was pregnant, and my baby’s father wanted the child dead? That’s even more outrageous, won’t you agree?”
I looked at Dahlly and my heart turned heavy…
So this must be why she left him…
“Dahlia,” I whispered, hugging her. “Dahlia… I’m so sorry.”
She immediately started sobbing when I hugged her. Her tears flowed generously just like how the rain flowed on that night.
After she has calmed down a bit, I urged Dahlia to take some rest while I stood guard at the cave’s entrance.
I ended up thinking about the things I had discovered and shared with Dahlia for a long time.
If it was I whom Dahlia had chosen from the start, she wouldn’t be suffering like this… She wouldn’t have to endure such a heavy heart if she learns that she’s pregnant with our child.
That’s right. Things could still turn out for the best for all of us…
“Kaist, aren’t you going to sleep, even a bit,” Dahlia called when she spotted me looking absentmindedly at the falling rain.
I came closer to Dahlia. “Dahlly,” I whispered, “I have a proposition for you.”
“Hmm? What is it?”
She looked back at me with round, curious eyes. It didn’t seem like she was already wide awake. Even so, I leaned closer to her that I was just one breath away from her face.
“Dahlia, do you know how you smell?”
“Pardon?”
“You always smelled so lovely. Your scent is a mix of wild cherries, honey, and milk, just like a refreshing dessert.”
I leaned in closer to smell Dahlly. “If you’ve really decided to leave Tristan, would you consider my offer?”
“Consider what?”
“This -” Before she could even back out, I reached for Dahlia’s chin, tilted her head, and kissed her.
The first time I kissed Dahlia, I only brushed my lips onto hers. This time, I made sure I kissed her properly as I take in her soft lips and sucked on them.
She pushed me away. “Wait, w-what are you doing, Kaist?”
“If he doesn’t want your child, I do… I would love him, Dahlia… I would love him as much as I had loved you all these years.”
“Kaist… Just what exactly are you saying?”
“Leave your husband, Dahlly. You, me, and our baby – let’s build a life together.”
