Chapter 104: Chapter 104
"Is there something wrong?"
Cecilia gasped when a familiar voice greeted her from behind.
She was reading in her library all alone.
Mary, Theo and the other already arrived from the South Island last night, and she gave them a day off to take some rest.
"Max, what are you doing here? If my father know--,"
"Don't worry. I saw him in the palace. So, what's wrong?" He rested his head to her lap.
Cecilia let out a heavy sigh before she's reading her book again about the history of Icicle Island.
"Nothing."
"Then, why did you avoid me since two days ago, right after Gracia's accident?"
"I'm not avoiding anyone."
"So, you didn't care about her words?"
"Max, I'm still reading."
"She sent me her resignation letter."
Cecilia knitted her brows, "What?"
Max pulled out a letter from his pocket and give it to his fiancé, "And this is for you. Don't worry, I already read and checked it. It's safe."
"Why did she send this to me?" She asked when holding on that pink envelope.
"I don't know."
"Did she resigned by herself? Or you forced her to do it?"
Max rolled his eyes, "Chili, for someone who didn't care, you are overreacted."
"Overreacted? Me?"
"Yes." He said and closed his eyes. Max moved a little to make himself feel comfortable to sleep in her lap, "I can't sleep yesterday. Can you let me rest for a while?"
But, something strange was piercing in her heart. Cecilia didn't know what it is, but that feeling really bugged her for a while.
After her encounter with Gracia, her mind stirred into a mess. Countless question attacking her mind.
Why did Max let her around, knowing her feeling?
If it was because of friendship, then how far?
Did they share each other secret or, for worse, sharing each other warmth?
Why did Gracia acting like a devoted girlfriend rather than an underling? Is there something unfinished between them?
Deep down, Cecilia knew that Max isn't a man like that. She trusted his faith on this relationship. But, how about his past? If they didn't have dragon's bless, will Max ever set his eyes on her?
All that unanswered question, left her in one conclusion. She barely knew him.
Perhaps, Gracia know him better than me, Cecilia said to herself.
But, she't can tell him all of her insecurities.
What if Max found her as a clingy and troublesome woman?
What if Max starting to regret their relationship because he was destined to a woman like her?
"Chili." Max was wide awake and saw her worried face. "Look at me."
"I thought you were sleeping." She said before, try to read the book. Covering her face from him.
But, Max reacted quickly and put the book to the table beside him.
Before Cecilia snapped, he pulls her head closer to him. Her black hair touching his face, "Look at me."
Cecilia refused it by repulse his hand which touching her back of her head.
However, Max grab both of her wrist and their position changed. Cecilia's back was in the couch while her fiancé sitting beside her waist and look her from above.
Max didn't wear a crow mask, today, and she gulped when saw his angry face.
"Chili, I was wrong," His face was getting closer to her. Cecilia can smell his minty breath while talking, "I always thought that I am a patient man. But, two days without seeing your face, make me feel like crazy. My head is spinning around when I'm waiting to your arrival. I'm afraid that you might be sick.
So, I came to your room and found nothing. If I didn't eavesdropping your guard's conversation, I will never know that you are locking yourself in this library for two whole days."
"I was just reading." She said with very low voice and have no courage to see his face.
"Look at me, Chili." His voice sounds like he was begging than demanding. "Why it's so hard to see your face?"
Their eyes met. Silent was enveloped them. For several seconds, no one dared to moved or even blinked. They just stare at each other.
"I almost forgot how your face look like, Chili. Your sparkling purple eyes, porcelain skin and those cherry... lips."
Cecilia startled when noticed that Max's tears dropped in her cheek. She's trying to raise from the couch and touching both of his shoulder, "Max!"
However, he pushed herself back to lie down on the couch and hides his face on her shoulder. Weeping without a voice.
Cecilia gulped and both of her arm hugged his body, "I'm sorry."
But he didn't say anything.
"Max, you are not sleeping, right? Please let me move for a bit. You are a bit heavy."
Her fiancé didn't answer, but his arm was loose. So, Cecilia move a bit to put her head on the arm rested on that couch.
"Ah, perfect." She said and let Max bury his face to her shoulder. Both of her hand wrap his body, gently pat his back.
"I was thinking lately." Cecilia then started to telling him about her worries after she let out a heavy sigh.
Max listening without said anything on her complain and Cecilia thought that he perhaps fell asleep. That's why she whispered to him in low voice, avoiding to waking him up. "I love you, Max."
"Say it again." Suddenly he raised his head, showing her off his red and swollen eyes.
Cecilia gently wipe his tear. Her heart broken when saw it.
How could I say that I love you, but the one who hurt you, was myself? She asked herself.
"I'm sorry. I'm really sor--,"
Before she finished her words, Max kissed her gently.
"I was the one who need to apologize. I'm sorry for not explaining this matter and let you hurt yourself by tortured with your unanswered question." Max said after the kiss.
He added, "Gracia is like a little sister to me. She was living in the same orphan with Hugo. We trained together and that's all. She used to say that she want to marry me when we got adult. But, I never ever considered it as a proposal."
"No, no. It was my fault. I should've trusted you better."
Max shook his head, "You are right. I should become more trustworthy to you."
"Wait, I was wrong too, Max. I supposed to tell you what I feel, so you didn't need to suffer!"
"Chili," his green eyes locked to herself. "You are perfect. If there is something to blame on, it was me. I will do my best to become a man you can depend on."
Cecilia raised her brows,"No! You are the perfect one. I mean, you have faced, wealth, fame and a lot of kindness in yourself. Compared to you, I am just a grain of the sand! I will be levelling up myself to become a woman you can proud of!"
Looking at her serious face, Max laughed gently, "No, don't change. If you were leveling up, just for a bit, I'll be blinded by your presence."
She frowned, "I am serious, Max!"
"I know," he pat her head before kissed it. "Chili, I can't read your mind. You said that we were barely know each other, right?
Then, let's starting by telling me everything you feel or want, and I will do the same. It's okay if you have those insecurities. It's normal because we are human with weak heart. Promise me to not hurting yourself by doing this again, okay?"
Cecilia nodded, and she almost lost to his green eyes. Now, she wondered how can she live without him, "Max."
"Hmm?"
"Will you married me?"
He blinked twice before start laughing, "Seem like our role get swapped."
"My father tell me that I can take the succession exam even if I got married."
"What?! He said that I've waited for several years!"
"And he said that he will accept your proposal anytime you want."
"WHAAAAT? He really said it?"
"Yes. More or less."
Max smiling widely before kissed his forehead, "Chili! Please wait for me! I will be right back! Certainty!"
"Eh? Wait!" She said when he already disappeared. Cecilia let out a heavy sigh, "Ah, I forgot to tell him about the front door's part."
