After dinner that night, Sally pit her children to sleep and came back downstairs to speak to Jason.

Nancy had been absent. She had asked Sandy to bring her meal to her in her quarters because she had wanted to give the brother and sister privacy.

'Are Vera and Vaughn asleep?'

'Yes, they are. Jason I have noticed that something seem to be bothering you. What is it?'

'Sally. The case is more complicated than you can imagine'.

'Tell me!'

'I do not know where to start'.

'Try starting at the beginning'.

'You know how Phoebe and I met. It was at the party you threw to help me get over my heartbreak and start socializing again'.

'Yes, yes!'

'Well, we had an agreement. The affair was going to be an open one where both partners are not restricted to seeing just each other. We were free to see other partners. I was not ready for any commitments. I mean I had just suffered through one and was not ready to rush into another'.

'And was she in agreement?' Sally asked wondering why such a young woman would opt for such a relationship instead of a steady one that would get her married.

'She did. If she had not, I would not have gone into any relationship with her.

But the problem is that she came to me about two weeks ago to tell me she was pregnant and that I was the father.

I had my misgivings. How could she be so sure when I was not the only sex partner that she had.

I felt that this was another Rebecca come to take advantage of me and asked for a DNA test.

The results are out and it is about 99% match. So the test results claim I am the father but I am not overjoyed because I do not love Phoebe and have never done that. In fact, I keep thinking that there must be a mistake somewhere but the doctor I entrusted this to is my most trusted friend, Dr. Manuel and I know that he could not play such pranks with my life.

I am not happy with the turn of events and do you know Rebecca is also back, asking to come back into my life even if as a mistress?' Jason asked.

'Heavens forbid!'

'My sentiments exactly but she is persistent and I do not know if I would have been able to resist taking her to bed at least for vengeance sake had it not been my feelings for someone else', Jason confessed.

'Your personal secretary, right?' Sally asked looking at him with understanding.

Jason was shocked. How did she find out?' he thought.

Sally read his thoughts accurately.

'I am not a kid, Jason. I am your elder sister and I have seen the way you look at her and she at you. I knew that there was more to your relationship than just a boss- employee relationship. But how are you going to do it since someone is pregnant with your child?'

'I do not know. I had wanted Phoebe to give birth to the baby and give it to me while she goes her way, considering the kind of relationship we had but she refuses. Saying that her child would not be born out of wedlock and that we can contract a marriage of convinience and get a divorce later but Nancy is of the opinion that she would not want to give me the divorce later'.

'Nancy?'

'My secretary and my love'.

'Yes of course'.

'I noticed something else too. Your Nancy seemed to be pregnant as well. You are really a fast worker. Is it that you do not use protection with your women or they do not take precautions?'

'That is what is so confusing, Sally. Phoebe told me she was on the pill and I always were protection, knowing that I am not her only partner but how it happened still baffles me'.

'And Nancy?'

'I have not done more than kiss her and touch her. We have not gone all the way but I feel so right when I am with her. I know we are meant for each other' he said.

'I do not doubt you. She seem like a pretty level headed girl but what about her pregnancy, if you have not touched her?'

'She is carrying someone else's child. The imbecile who promised her love and marriage abandoned her the instance he found out about her pregnancy. He was apparently married with four children and did not want Nancy to destroy his marriage which he only revealed to her after finding out about her pregnancy'.

'That's a pity. Poor girl, what she must have been through.

But you see, it makes the matter simpler. I do not want to tell you what to do, but I'd suggest that you go ahead with the contract marriage just to give her child legitimacy like Phoebe had rightly said. Afterwards, you get a divorce, though you may grow to love her while being married to her...'

'There's no chance of that, ever!'

'So she is just good enough for sex but not enough for marriage? I do not want to judge you because I know the circumstances which you met her but if someone will not be good enough for marriage, then one must avoid getting involved with such a person in case of such emergencies such as this. This is really a lesson to be learnt.

Bwut is her case not far better than you getting married to someone who is carrying another's child? What if the father comes to claim his child later and by which time you have grown fond of the child like you would if he were yours? Would you be able to deal with the complications later? Because you know, life has no guarantees and the unexpected can happen'. she counselled.

'You are right but I never chose who to fall in love with. It just happened and I can assure you that I tried so hard to avoid it happening. I fought the feelings but lost. And now, I do not think I can live without her. She is like a virus in my blood. I just have to have her. And concerning her pregnancy, I have decided to adopt her baby as mine and in case what you spoke about come to pass, we shall know how to cross that bridge when we get there'.

'You are an adult. I shall support your decision, provided it will make you happy but what is Nancy saying about this contract marriage?'

'She is not aware that she is the one I want to marry. She also supports giving my child legitimacy but she feels that Phoebe would not want to give me a divorce when the time came and that the lady I told her I wanted to marry as soon as I divorced Phoebe would be foolish to wait for me because I could end up falling in love with Phoebe or her me which would make her not to give me the divorce'.

Wise girl! thought Sally to herself.

'When is Phoebe going to visit?'

'I don't know but now that you are here, I shall ask her to come over and of course, she shall be attending the party as well'.

'Alright then, because I'd really like to see and speak to her'.

'You shall. You must be very tired. You had a long flight. Goodnight' Jason said trying to stifle his yawn.

'You also need to get some sleep. Goodnight, Jason'.
