Chapter 91: Chapter 91
Phoebe felt that she had just been defeated verbally.
There really was more to this Nancy girl than meets the eye.
'Jason will have to do something about you. If he does not, then I shall. Not only should you be thrown out of this house but out of your job as well. Afterall, you aren't even taking it very seriously.
You have the strength and presence of mind to speak to me this way but you cannot go to work to justify the wage you are paid?' Phoebe said and walked away from the quarters, with her head held high but within her, her confidence was badly shaken.
Phoebe went straight to her house. If not for the fact that she had wanted to put Nancy in her place or use emotional blackmail on her in such a way that she would leave Jason and the mansion of her own accord, she would not have come there that day.
Now her intention had backfired because Nancy had spoken to her in a way she had not expected to be spoken to, definitely not by her.
She knew that Jason would do nothing if she reported Nancy to him and she was filled with a murderous rage against her.
Next week was Christmas and she decided she was going to wait it out and then teach that low class girl a lesson she was not going to forget in a hurry.
Nancy went to see Mrs Potts. She had contemplated if she should tell Mrs. Potts what she had found out or not. Then decided that Potts had to know afterall she was the one who told her to try and see what she could find out.
It was really ironical that the day she stressed herself and went looking for Phoebe and any evidence, she could find, she did not find any but the day she stayed at home deciding she was no longer interested in discovering anything against Phoebe, Phoebe herself inadvertently came and gave her the evidence she needed.
As soon as she saw Mrs. Potts, she told her everything she had heard Phoebe say on the phone to Jason.
This is the evidence that we have been looking for. Didn't I tell you? I knew there was something not right about that woman and the pregnancy. I could feel it in my old bones. Now, I have been proven tight.
And you did I not ask you to be patient? You were all set to go and I kept telling you that I know Jason cares alot about you and even loves you but you still did not believe it'. Mrs Potts said dancing round.
She had not wanted another Rebecca or worse to come in as Jason's wife. Not really for her sake, she could tolerate anyone but for the sake of the boss who she loved very much as a son. She did not want him to go through what he went through when Rebecca left him.
'Whay should we do now?' Nancy asked after her narration.
'What do you mean what do we do now?, We tell Jason of course so that he won't consider marrying her anymore. She was going to marry him by deceit and it was even out of love. It was out of greed. She could have ruined his life you know. Much more than his first wife did'.
'But we really do not have evidence but the word of my mouth. Jason might want evidence. He might confront her and she would deny it. I did not record the conversation though it was one sided but at least the words she said was incriminating enough and would have implicated her but I had no time for that and in fact it had not occured to me to do that at the time. I was just interested in knowing what her plans were and trying to foul them if they had any
feels about you, he will have an excuse to ditch Phoebe. He has not been happy since finding out about her pregnancy. The only time I have seen him smile is when you are around him. That's why I know that he will need no concrete evidence to believe what you tell him'.
Nancy was not really sure but she sure was going to try and convince him.
' Mother Potts, do not say that. You can't possibly know the dept of one's heart. If he really loved me as you said, why was he planning on marrying another person before finding out about Phoebe's pregnancy?'
'He was?'
'Yes. He told me so himself'.
'And how sure are you that you were not the person he was talking about?'
'Then he would have told me!'.
'He might have meant it as a surprise you know?'
'Oh, let's forget it. And concentrate on how to say this to him because you will always take his side, so there is no way I can win in this debate against him, with you'.
'So you just go ahead and speak to him about it. He will listen to you more than to anyone else. We have already started making preparations for Christmas and the mood will be jolly. He also throws a party for his workers. I wonder why he has not said anything about it but it is a tradition'.
'I shall wait for a time that is most convenient and speak to him. That way I'll know that I have his attention. Then the decision on what to do will rest solely with him'.
After that they started doing some of the chores. Sandy made the rooms clean and brought out the laundry so that the laundry man could take care of it.
By the time they were done, it was pretty late and they started preparing for the next meal, knowing that Jason would soon make his entrance.
All through, Nancy was filled with apprehension. She did not know how Jason was going to take this. Was he going to be disappointed that the baby was not in fact his? He had been willing to sacrifice his happiness for it, afterall. Was he going to be glad so that he would be free to marry that lucky girl he had spoken to her about that day he had asked her advise?
And what would become of her, now that she had foolishly fallen in love with him? Was she going to perish in unfulfilled love?'
Time they say, will tell....
