Chapter 79: Chapter 79

Nancy heaved a sigh of relief as she came out of her hiding place.

Her legs were cramped. She had had to lean on something to prevent her from feeling dizzy. as much as she had wanted to hear and know more, she had also been tired and her condition was not one that she had to stand of squat for long.

She stretched herself gingerly and walked back home. She had had enough strolling for one night.

As she walked home, she wondered at all that she had heard.

Okay, so Phoebe was not faithful to Jason but what is new? Also their relationship like Jason had confessed to her that night was an open one. She had not really believed it but she did now. So she could have other sexual partners if she felt like it.

That did not puzzle her. What puzzled her was the claim of the man with her, Romeo or whatever his name was.

He had said something about him not convinced that the pregnancy was Jason, he was sure that it was his.

For a man to say that, he must have a legit reason for his convictions.

'Nancy, Nancy, do not over think this or you will have a headache. The tests showed that Jason is the father and Jason had gone to his personal doctor for the test. So there is no fool play'.

She said to herself, rubbing her temple.

But tests could be doctored or tampered with. What if Phoebe had tampered with the test results? Because Phoebe was not really an honest woman according to what Nancy had come to know of her.

She threatened her to keep off Jason even when she knew the kind of relationship she had with him? Why would she do that?

Nancy knew that at that time, she had not fallen in love with Jason and the feelings she had for him were merely that of gratitude but if Phoebe was in such a relationship that did not bind her to Jason or Jason to her, why would she be so jealous of her presence in Jason's home and life to have threatened her the way she did?

Except of course she felt more for Jason than she was letting on and wanted more from him than their agreed relationship.

And such a person could go to any length to achieve her goals.

So was that what she did then? But how could she convince such a loyal do Tor to tamper with the tests results?

It just did not make sense because the doctor would definitely have told Jason about it. Or did she threaten him into that?

Nancy felt dizzy and the headache was increasing.

'What do I care? They both deserve each other. Let me just get my life back on track!' she thought to herself.

But she did care and too much as it were. She did want to see Jason hurt again like Rebecca his first wife did to him and she knew that Phoebe was not the right woman for him.

She did not know this other woman Jason was talking about marrying before the news of Phoebe's pregnancy was announced and though she felt bad, she instinctively knew that the woman would have been a better choice.

She just did not trust Phoebe. They may be in such a relationship but she should at least have started limiting the number of her lovers but she seemed not to care about that. What kind of marriage were they going to have?

And what was that she said again? That she did not care for the baby but for what it would get her?

What was the baby going to get her? A huge court settlement after the divorce?

A legal marriage to Jason?

Something just did not feel right.

Nancy got to the house and went straight to her quarters and to bed. She was just too exhausted and the events of the day had started taking their toll on her.

She lay down and closed her eyes to shut of the images that seem not to want to give her rest. She saw herself in Jason's arms and felt his kiss. She would ha have got more of that if she had allowed it. So why miss it now?

And what would have become of her?Especially now that he was getting married. She was glad that she had restrained herself no matter how difficult it may have been.

She shut her mind of any argument. She was just too tired to argue with herself just then or to contemplate what it was Phoebe was up to. That was no longer her business.

She should rather concentrate on how to care for herself and her baby when it was finally born.

That helped to relax her and she fell into a deep tired sleep.

She slept through the night but still woke early to help Mrs Potts with breakfast.

It was a Saturday and she knew that she had the whole day to sleep if she wanted to.

Mrs. Potts was looking at her strangely. She had noticed a change in her and had wondered what was going on between Nancy and Mr. Campbell.

She would like these two to come together and the way she had seem Mr. Campbell Sir, looking at her showed his interest but she was not sure of Nancy's feelings. She was not too expressive but lately she had been behaving absent mindedly like someone whose heart was heavy or filled with sadness.

She had told her how she came to be pregnant and Mrs. Potts had sympathized with her and that was the more reason, she wanted these two to be together but what could she really do?

On some occasions, when Nancy was not around, Mrs. Potts had sung her praises to Jason, watching his expression, praying that he would get her drift.

'Miss Nancy is really a good girl. She is the perfect wife material. She would some day make the lucky man who marries her very happy'. She had said on one occasion. And her boss had nodded but said nothing.

'I do not know how someone could be heartless enough to get such a sweet girl like Nancy pregnant and abandon her this way. Such a person does not deserve to be called human. I hope she finds happiness. She has been through alot', she had said on another occasion and her boss had been lost in thought and Mrs. Potts would have sworn that she saw anger in his eyes and his countenance changed imperceptibly. She only noticed because she had been watching out for his reaction.

But otherwise, he said nothing.

But the anger told her something. And that was that her boss care for Nancy and her welfare.
