Nancy went into her quarters. She could not prevent the tears from pouring down her cheeks. She knew being sad and crying would stress not just herself but her baby as well but she just could not stop herself.

Other people are happy as they make preparations for Christmas but she was there being sad.

What had she done that fate should treat her this way.

She knew it was not her right to have Jason but she had been foolish enough to dream and had thought that he might feel something for her with which they could build on. And she had foolishly fallen head over heels in love with him. She who had sworn off guys and had promised herself that she would guard her heart with an iron shield.

She was still not out of the mess her first love push her into and she was already experiencing another heartbreak.

It was not Jason's fault, it was hers. He never asked her to love him and never promised her marriage just like Rodney did. She had just allowed the gratitude she felt for all he had done for her to transform into love.

It had happened so gradually that she had not known that it was happening.

'I do not think that I can keep my promise to Anna to stay till after Christmas. I do not know of I can handle it. But getting an accommodation this time of the year can be very difficult. But I shall try. Who knows, fortune might just shine on me'.

She felt restless but because of the cold, she did not want to go to the pool but put on a cardigan and went for a stroll.

She did not know where her feet led her but she found herself in an area with a roll of apartments. She would have considered coming there in the morning to see if there were any vacancies but it was too close to Jason's house and there was no use leaving her quarters just to live close to him. It would be the height of stupidity.

As she walked along the houses, she heard laughter.

It was coming behind her.

She felt that the laughter and the voice she heard speaking were all familiar.

It could not be! She knew that Phoebe lived close but she had not known it was as close to Jason as this. No wonder she had ended up pregnant. It was almost as though they were co habiting.

She did not want her to see her and start asking her questions or telling her of her victory. She would just walk up to Nancy and tell her how she was expecting Jason's child and how they would soon get married and didn't she ask Nancy not to overstep her bounds but to keep away from Jason?

And that was another reason she had to leave the quarters because, as soon as she became Mrs. Campbell, she knew that Phoebe would throw her out of the house, contract marriage or not. And she did not believe for one minute that Phoebe would ever give Jason a divorce later and while living together, anything could happen

Couples who went into contract marriages, have been known to fall in love and make the marriages into normal marriages.

Nancy pitied the other woman if she was foolish enough to agree and wait for a married couple to get a divorce.Co tract my foot!.

Phoebe was talking to someone.

Nancy prayed Phoebe would pass by quickly so that she could get out of her hiding place and continue on her way.

Phoebe was speaking to someone and holding them tight.

'But I have told you my plans, why are you so stubborn. What was the purpose of this still if you are still so angry?'

'You can only stroll with me at night but in the day, you feel ashamed to walk around with me because of your lovers. Do you take me for a fool? How do you want me to feel? You say you care for me but you are getting married to another for his wealth. How am I sure that you would do as you promised and get back with me afterwards?' the man Phoebe was speaking with asked.

'You just have to take my word for it. Stop whining, it does not become you. It is just a contract marriage and we shall be together afterwards. I told you that I am only after the money. You know how I have schemed and plotted to get to where I am today. If I didn't want you in my life, then I would have thrown you out long ago. Be patient. I do not really care one way or the other about this baby but I can use what it will bring me'.

The couple had stopped, close to where Nancy was hiding and she had to hold her breath. Why here of all places, she thought.

'But sincerely, was the baby really Jason's?' the man asked.

'Keep your voice down. Just like the walls have ears,the wind may blow this to him. It does not matter now. Whether it is his or not but the medicals have confirmed it his, so what is your stress?' she whispered.

Nancy had to strain to hear and nearly lost her balance. Any noise and they would know that someone was there.

'I could have sworn that the baby was really mine. I do not know how you managed it and the reports are claiming it is Jason's. Poor guy and he never wanted to get married to you'.

'Well,he has no option now but to marry me. And why are we saying so much about this? When have you become his fan?'

'I have liked him since I came to know him. I was prepared not to like him just like Richard but he is not like other rich guys. He is good

But getting married to him would mean that you keep away from other men. Are you ready for that?'

'We are having a contract marriage not a real one. I know that for the period we shall be together, I shall have to stay clear off the men but I can always see you my pet in secret and then after the divorce, we shall formalize our relationship. Isn't that amazing? And we shall do that in a grand style because I shall demand a handsome alimony from him'.

Romeo was not really convinced but there was nothing he could do. Phoebe had already made up her mind and he would just have to wait and watch to see how it all plays out.

'Phoebe, let's get inside. I am tired of this discussion. You know my take in all of this but I know that you won't bulge from your decision either. So let's just wait and watch. I hope everything goes according to the way you want it but I shall not be really happy, until you come back to me.

For now, I have to make do with what I can get. So come in because I want to eat you up!' Romeo said really ravenous for Phoebe. And Phoebe was happy that things were finally going her way. It made her ravenous as well and who better to satisfy her than Romeo?

They went in and into each other's arms with a hunger they both had not felt before.

Romeo did not know if it was an unconscious attempt to lay claim on her or to stamp his imprint on her so that she never forgot him or a premonition that he had already lost her to Jason . Whatever it was, that night was really memorable and both attested to it.
