Chapter 72: Chapter 72

Jason gave Phoebe a call and asked her to see him that evening.

He cancelled all his appointment for that day so that he could get home early.

Phoebe had had another row with Romeo who had disagreed with her plans. He was sure that the baby was his and not Jason's. He had no proof but he could feel it in his hits and he wanted what was his.

'And I have told you that the baby isn't yours and you will have to get prepared to leave my house because the father of my child may just get jealous or angry if he found out that you were co habiting with the mother of his child', she told him.

'Don't count your chicks before they are hatched. How are you sure Jason would be foolish enough to believe that the child is his without a paternity test?'

'You do not have to concern yourself with that. I have it all sorted out. It will all turn out in my favour, you'll see' Phoebe said confidently.

Romeo didn't know what she had in mind and though he tried to find out, she just laughed merrily but kept mute.

'Just because I have a few orgasms when I mate with you does not mean that I should share all of my secrets with you!' she told him emphatically.

Romeo had a premonition that whatever she had planned could not be good at all and was filled with pity for the poor Jason.

They were still talking about this when the call from Jason came through.

'Phoebe could you make it to my house evening?'

'Of course if that's what you would want. Hope there is no problem though?' she asked feigning ignorance of the possible reason he would want to see her.

'No problem. I just want us to talk'.

'Then I shall be there's.

After he rang off, Phoebe faced Romeo and smiled.

'You see, he wants to talk but he does not know that no matter what he decides to say, everything will definitely work in my favour'.

Romeo looked at her and marvelled. He didn't know Phoebe could be as cold hearted as this. He had thought that she was soft hearted. Apparently he had been wrong in his judgement of her. He knew that he could not stick around anymore. He had to move on. Maybe the baby was not his afterall and even if it were, Phoebe would go to any extent to prove her wrong.

She also did not need his protection anymore, once she got married to Jason which was what she had wanted all her life, then she would fall under Jason's protection.

That evening, immediately Phoebe left for the Jason's mansion, Romeo prepared to leave her for ever but he knew that he would miss her terribly. He had grown on her and had wanted them to forge a lasting relationship but what kind of relationship could they possibly have when her mind would always be somewhere else because of the wealth that he- Romeo was get to acquire? Her time with Richard had really changed her drastically. That was what he chose to believe because he didn't want to believe that she had always been this way. If she had, she would never have gone through all that she did for Richard.

But he would just be with her one last time. Early the next morning, he would leave her forever before she even stirred.

Phoebe got there and was ushered into the dinning room where Jason was eating. He was grateful for once that Nancy was not eating with him because he would have felt awkward asking her to leave them alone so they could have a conversation and he definitely did not want to spend the night with Phoebe.

If there was anyone he desired to spend the night with, it was Nancy but he knew that it just may not be possible just yet until he had given her price exactly.

Yes, everybody had a price and Nancy was not different. Hers may not be monetary but it was something he had to offer to be able to make her his

He had a pretty good idea what her price was but he could not offer her that just yet till he was able to settle the case with Phoebe.

'Please join me. Or is there any other thing you would rather eat?'

'No I'll have what you are having'. Phoebe said as she sat down.

They ate in silence.

Afterwards, Jason led her to his Library.

'I have thought about what you told me the other day and that is why I have invited you over so that we could reason together and get a solution to this mess'. Jason said.

Phoebe did not like the tone Jason was taking. How was her pregnancy a mess?

' A mess? What do you mean?'

'I did not mean it the way it sounded. I just meant that neither of us wanted this nor planned for it but now that it has happened, we need not pretend that it isn't there. So the first thing I'd want for us to do is to go through some tests'.

'Ehat kind of test for you have in mind?' Phoebe asked her worst nightmare coming to pass.

'Well, the normal tests. Pregnancy test and the rest. I spoke to my doctor today and he informed me that there could be other things apart from pregnancy that could present the same symptoms as pregnancy.

So we need to to be sure you are a truely pregnant and not coming down with something with pregnancy related symptoms.

Also, given the fact that I always wore protection everytime we meet to prevent such contingencies such as this and you being on the pills, Dr. Manuel doubts that you should be pregnant at least by me. So, we need to perform a paternity test as well'. Jason explained to her and heaved a sigh that he had said what he had wanted to say.

'You mean that my doctor that confirmed the pregnancy could be mistaken and a woman who is said to be the only one who knows who the real father of her child is could also be mistaken that you are asking for a DNA test?'

'Trust has nothing to do with this, Phoebe. Try to understand. I am trying to prevent any embarrassing situation for the both of us in the future where someone will come out of the blue claiming the child and by the way, when has seeking a second opinion been considered a wrong thing to do?'

'That's okay, if you feel so. But when are you planning for us to visit this doctor of yours?' Phoebe asked not wanting it to seem as though she had anything to hide.

'As soon as possible!'

Phoebe's brain cells started running riot, thinking what to do.

'As soon as possible, meaning what day and time? Remember that I now have a business to run'.

'Would tomorrow be okay by you?' Jason asked and Phoebe swore inwardly. Tomorrow was too soon for her to carry out her plan but it could be rectified.

'I need it to be over and done with as well but tomorrow is not really convinient for me because I have ordered for some goods and I need to be there when it is delivered tomorrow. What about the day after that?'

'That's okay by me. We shall leave by 10am, so that we can come back early for our business.

It's a date then'.

'Since we have agreed to it, let's go have rest, good night', Jason suggested.

'Goodnight!'
