Rodney, called Mattias and told him what he had decided.
Mattias who had not felt very comfortable kidnapping a child was happy that his boss had reached such a noble decision as to give the child back to her parents.
He wished though that he had made that decision before the deed was actually done. Taking the child back now was going to take all his wit's because he knew that there were searches everywhere for them. He had barely managed to take the girl out in the first place.
'How does she look?' Rodney asked curious for the first time to know how Josephine looked.
'I must say that she is going to be a most stunning woman. I pity the men. She will cause alot of heart break. She has dark hair and same colour of eyes as you. Now that I think of it, she looks so much like you'.
Rodney smiled. It made him happy that his daughter looked more like him than her mother. It made him burst with male pride and made him more determined to do right by her.
They were still talking when his wife came to visit him.
Rodney was surprised. He felt that it was the season for surprises.
As soon as his wife got there, he gave a signal to Mattias to leave but his wise wife asked Mattias to stay so they could speak together.
When Mattias looked at Rodney, he nodded, indicating that he was free to stay since his wife had made the request.
'Rodney, the news reaching me is that you have been at it again!'
'What exactly do you mean?' he asked genuinely surprised though he knew what she was talking about, it was just that he had not expected her to know of it and wondered who had told her about it. The woman really had people working for her. Was there anything that escapes her notice?
'Don't pretend you do not know what I am talking about. I am talking about the little innocent girl you abducted', she whispered, not wanted
Mattias exchanged glances with Rodney.
'Where did you get such ridiculous information from?'
'My source does not concern you but I know It is a reliable source'.
'Assuming that is the case, since you are prepared to trust your source rather than me, what then?'
'Don't blame me for my lack of faith in you. You know that you have betrayed my faith in you on numerous occasions. So, you can't really blame me for laying my loyalties else where', she said, smiling tolerantly at him. 'But to answer your question, I do not want you to have any prick of conscience and I trust you have no such thing in you anyway. I would like for you to keep the girl in custody. Do not release her. Her parents should know better than to contend with us. This is the first time you have done something really commendable.
Ensure she is given the worst treatment ever given to a child her age and we shall see about doing away with her later', she said, smiling maliciously.
Rodney was shocked. He did not know that she would give such cruel advise. He wondered if he had heard her right. How could a woman of four children want such a treatment metted out to another child? Had his wife been this malicious all along or had she just learnt it?
Was it the court case that had changed her this way and made her this vengeful towards Nancy or was it plain jealousy that he had another child from another woman?
'My love, you marvel me. You are really a woman with a difference. I had expected you to irritate me with your plea that the poor girl be released but no, you want the suffering of those fools who thought that they had defeated me to be enhanced. The woman just left here and I told her I knew nothing about the girl's whereabouts. With your support, we can do exploits and they will learn who is actually in charge'.
His wife looked at him and smiled. Mattias with whom he had made plans to return the girl could not understand what was happening. Was he going back on his word or tricking his wife? He was aware that the woman was capable of making his boss change his mind.
'Since we are in agreement, I would like to be introduced to all involved in her captivity. I was to be in charge of her torture', she said still smiling.
Rodney was scared now but tried not to show it. If such a woman was placed in charge of his child, the child he was already forming a bond with without seeing, then he would lose all opportunity to get to know her in future.
'You do not have to bother about it. I know what to do about her and how to keep cutting parts of her and presenting it to her parents in parts so that the pain would kill them before her actual death'.
His wife looked ecstatically happy. 'I. glad to hear all that though I would have loved to parrticipate in it's execution but since you insist, I leave it all in your capable hands', she looked at Mattias, 'And what is your name?'
'Mattias!'
'Are you involved in all these as well?'
Mattias at first did not know if he should lie or tell the truth but decided to speak the truth after a glance at his boss and seeing his imperceptible nod.
'Yes, I am and your will shall be followed to the later'.
'No, not my will but the desire of your boss. He already has four wonderful children, we do not want a bastard from somewhere coming later to claim him from his other children'.
Rodney was very hurt and angry that she had referred to his daughter as a bastard and the only reason he kept quiet was because he wanted her to leave so that he could hasten the release of the poor child. He wondered why he had given the order for her abduction in the first place.
How was he to raise the child on his own with such a devilish wife as step mother to her even if he was free to do so? She was better off with her real mother and adopted father who love and care for her.
Mrs. Richmond saw the thoughts running through his mind and believing that her purpose for the visit had been accomplished, bade them farewell and left the prison yard.
