Chapter 185: Chapter 185
She could not believe what she was hearing and wondered what kind of fish brain the man she had married had.
How could he allow someone to know the plan he was making even before he made it? What had given him such confidence ?
She had known that Rodney was capable of doing what Nancy had said even without the threat he had made. He had alot of men of questionable behaviour which she was only starting to know since the court case, who were working for him. He could easily ask one of them to do his dirty jobs while he pretended in oven e in prison.
'If what you have said is true, then the best place for you to have gone is the Prison. Go there and speak to him. Most probable, your tears would do what nothing else can do. I am a woman and I believe that he is still fascinated with you no matter how he tries to pretend that that isn't so'.
'God forbid it!' Nancy said before she realised herself. 'I am really sorry. I forgot myself for a moment'.
'For what? You just expressed your emotions and you have the right to. You just confirmed to me that you have no residual feelings for Rodney but you could still go to prison and speak to him. Remind him that the child in question is his and other very touching things. He isn't made of stone. I know that he would definitely melt under your sweet words'.
'My husband has already gone there twice. He had pleaded with him, threatened to cause his parole to be revoked but it has had no effect on him. He seemed to enjoy the distress we are going through but I am worried about the welfare of my child and that is why I have come to solicit your help. You would feel very anxious if your child had been abducted so please help another mother in any way you can. I just want my daughter back home with me where she belongs'.
'I can see that you are pregnant. What would you like to have? Tea or coffee?'
'Tea, thank you but it must not be too rich. I like it very light'.
She called for one of the servants and gave her instructions and soon the servant came in with a tray. A mug of coffee for her mistress and tea for the visitor but very light tea. with glass cups. She kept the tray on the table and poured it for her mistress and then poured the tea for the visitor and discreetly left them alone.
Mrs Richmond looked at Nancy, nodding. She understood what she must be passing through and what had driven her to come to her for help. She had known it would be something serious but had not thought it was as serious as that.
She felt pity for the young woman before her. She had been through alot.
She thought to herself that she had to be careful though before she implicated herself or Rodney though he deserved all that he got.
'Well, all you have said has come as a surprise to me. I did not know that anything such as this had happened and I refuse to believe that my husband Rodney is responsible but I shall ask around and see how I can help. If there is a way I can help, then I shall, though I promise you nothing'.
Nancy sipped her tea as both women discussed things partaining to children.
Nancy finished her tea at last and she her coffee..
Nancy stood and thanking her for everything, she left.
She was surprised to find Jason there. A few feet away.
She had not known that Jason knew where she was coming.
She knew that only one person could have told him where she had gone.
They left to get her with Nancy telling Jason everything that had transpired between her and Rodney's wife.
She also told him of her suggestion to go and see Rodney.
She pleaded that while she was sure that if she could, then Rodney's wife would help them, they should not just sit idle.
'What harm could it possible for for me to go and speak to him? You know how he despises you. That may be the reason he had refused to moved. If I go and he sees how helpless I am, he might just give in'.
'Alright and since we are already at it, I will stop you at the prison so that you can try speaking to that heartless brute'.
At the prison, Nancy went in alone to see Rodney. It was almost oast visiting hours but the warden took pity on Nancy and showed her in. Advising her to be quick with whatever she had to say to Rodney.
When Rodney was brought out, everyone could see that he was shocked. He had not expected to see Nancy there and he was self conscious, trying to cover his embarrassment, he started speaking tauntingly at her.
'So, you decided to come see your ex lover, right? Is this out of pity or have you come to laugh at me? To rub your victory in my face? Wow, you are pregnant again. Congratulations. You do not seem to waste time at all in this venture of filling Jason's house with brats'.
Nancy did not want to antagonize him.
She started sobbing. Rodney was shocked. He had not expected that from her.
'Now what is this? You have never cried this easily before because of my taunts. So what exactly is the problem? You didn't come here to show me your tears, did you?'
'Rodney, I realised that I have made a grave mistake. Since I gave birth, I had not thought it fit to bring Josephine to see you. You need to see her', she sniffed, trying to control her tears. She did not need to make too much effort to cry because she was already close to tears because of her daughter. 'She is exactly the female version of you physically. But right now, I can't find her. It has been about a week since someone abducted him from our grounds. You do not happen to know who could be responsible, do you?'
Rodney looked down. He had expected outright accusation but the way she presented the issue to him got the wind out of him.
'When did this happen?'
'A week ago, just about three weeks after her second birthday. I do not know the situation she is in and she is so loveable, who would be so heartless as to do that to a child of such a tender age?'.
'Why are you telling me all this?' Rodney asked somewhat confused though he was aware what she was asking.
'I came to you because though Jason may have adopted her, she is still your flesh and blood and no one can dispute that fact looking at the both of you. I wondered if you could send some of your men to try and find her? Jason dies not have the kind of connections that you do. You will find her easily and I shall forever be indebted to you if you can give my daughter back to me'.
Rodney did not want to implicate himself but he could not deny that her approach had touched him.
'I shall see what I can do. If there is any underworld man who had taken custody of Josephine, then my men will surely find him and return our daughter back to you. But I make no promises. Because being in here, my hands are tied'.
'Thank you very much, for you to have agreed to help, I feel more confident that Josephine will definitely be found and I pray that your parole be hastened because I can see that you have really changed a great deal for good'.
The Warden was walking towards them.
'It would seem that my time is up. But thank you once again and take good care of yourself. I am expecting good news soonest'.
She went out to where Jason was waiting to take her home.
