'Dr. Manuel, It is good that you are here, concerning that test we did the other day, I'd like a second opinion. Do you have someone you could refer me to? I already know of someone but I trust your judgement' Jason said to the doctor while staring at Phoebe with fury.

Phoebe's heart skipped a beat. So, Jason still had this in mind irrespective of Nancy's condition? So, doing away with Nancy would really accomplish nothing, it would seem.

'If you trusted my judgement, then why do you need a second opinion?'

'Something came up and I hate ignoring my intuition. I will also like to speak to someone who works for you'.

Now, Phoebe was positively sure that Jason had found something out but she knew that the lab technician could not possibly let out their secret, he had alot to lose if he did but Jason could be pretty persuasive.

She had to do something about this.

Jason was staring at her and could almost see her brain waves working overtime. The way she was acting though she remain outwardly calm got him really suspicious and he decided that come hail or shine, the test would be redone!

'I shall come see you at your office later and explain, then get the information that I desire. No offense intended'.

'None taken', he said, smiling understandingly.

Phoebe felt that the time had come for her to give the tech another call but for now, she had to behave as though the condition of Nancy was not pleasing to her.

Mrs. Potts kept looking at Phoebe but she could not really say anything because she had no concrete evidence that she had made Nancy consider the things she had told her more deeply than she ought.

Dr. Manuel finished with his treatment.

'The way you draped the wet rag round her head helped', he said. 'I hope the temperature does not rise beyond normal anymore but if it does, do exactly what you did. Allow her to have her rest now though someone should be around her to attend to her in case she wakes and needs something'.

'Doctor, I wish to find out something about Nancy's condition. I hope you will oblige me, though you are not her the doctor treating her and her appointment is for the day after'.

'No. You are free to ask anything'.

'Let me walk you to the door', Jason offered.

They left the room together.

'Doctor, I wish to discuss something with you', Jason started. ' I meant no offense back there but before her accident, Nancy overheard a conversation pressumably by Phoebe and your lab tech where they were talking about his balance for falsifying the test results to state that I was the father of her baby.

At first I did not want to believe it because I know that you would not want to do anything against your professional ethics but then the technician is young and Phoebe is attractive and he could easily have been swayed. I am not telling you this so that you would confront him. I just want you to understand my reasons for seeking a second opinion'.

' It is possible', Dr. Manuel said introspectively. 'What are your plans?'

'I plan to confront the lab tech on my own but it shall be after I get the confirmation from undergoing another test with Phoebe'.

'That's okay. I knew that you wanted to say something of this nature to me and not necessarily about Nancy but you just didn't want anyone to know. Very Wise. And I also know what you are asking of me concerning the lab tech and I assure you that my lips are sealed'.

'Thank you very much. I knew that I could count on you'.

Jason went back inside and asked everyone to leave so he could stay with a while with Nancy.

Phoebe did not like that but she had to endure all these.

This behaviour of Jason's towards her made her more determined to ruin the relationship he shared with Nancy.

She did not even know how the doctors had been so careful as to preserve her pregnancy while treating her and while she was in a coma. She should not have been surprised because Jason made sure he got the best surgeon for her. Once it came to Nancy, he went out of his way to get her the best.

Maybe she should start reconsidering her decision to foist this baby on him which had kept her life on a standstill. She will soon resume her business and see if it was going to get her occupied.

She had also neglected Romeo and he was complaining.

'You have not yet succeeded in getting married to him and I am already feeling neglected', he told her the last time they were together. 'What will happen when you eventually sign this contract of a marriage with him? If you ask me, I'll say you have started developing a soft spot for him or maybe it is worse. You now love him, don't you? It is said that people are always attracted to what they can't have. It would seem that is the syndrome you ate suffering from now.

You had wanted him so much for your selfish purposes but it has backfired because now you want him for himself but he still does not want you and may never do and it is tearing you apart.

Have some dignity and confess to him that it was all a huge mistake and walk out. Who knows you might retain his respect than his hatred when he eventually finds out the truth because believe me, the truth will out one day. And I hope it will not be too late for you by then. I can't continue to stay like a moron waiting for you to make up your mind to want me and to want to stay with me so that we could raise our child together, you know'.

Phoebe wondered if he was right about leaving Jason though he had judged the situation correctly when he said he felt that she had fallen in love with Jason. She had and it was frustrating having to see him give his attention to someone else.

Her hatred for Nancy increased. 'I wish she had died. I am sorry that I had felt remorseful before now about her condition. Now I wish she had gone forever and left my life alone!'
