Chapter 161: Chapter 161
Nancy's fever broke and she came out of danger.
She was weak for a couple of days. But Jason made sure that he took great care of him.
The morning of the third day, as they set out for the hospital, Sally and her children set out for England to reunite with her husband. They had stayed longer than they had intended just to help Jason with Nancy's care.
Sally knew when to keep her mouth shut. She knew that nothing she said about letting Nancy go would be effective in the face of the kind of love he had developed for her.
The doctors examined her. She complained of some pain in her stomach and a scan was carried out on her.
The doctor found out something that was not very right about the pregnancy.
'The pregnancy has developed a complication. The baby is stressed and the foetal movement has greatly slowed down'. The doctor told the both of them.
'What can be done about it, doctor?'
'We can only give her some multivitamins to return vitality to both the mother and child and ask the mother to be active. The pregnancy is about Five months now and anything that happens to the baby now would either cause an abortion or deformity to the baby.
If the mother should lose the baby, it might be difficult before she can become pregnant again because the womb is now weak'.
Both Nancy and Jason were shocked. They did not know what to say. Nancy's hear was beating rapidly.
'You have to ensure that you are not stressed in any way and try not to force yourself into recalling anything yet. The memory will return when your body is relaxed and receptive of it. If you stress yourself, the memory will take longer in coming back and you will have only yourself to blame. Also as you strain your brain cells, you would be putting a strain on yourself and it would definitely affect the baby. Stay away from anything or anyone who will cause you stress.
The headaches are supposed to decline now but it has increased because of a recent brain activity you are not supposed to engage in?'
'So, do Tor, you mean I should not read or engage in any such mental activity?' Nancy asked defensive.
'I am suggesting no such thing. Reading will help you relax but straining your brain to remember something that you have forgotten is where the danger lie.You have to choose to either stay healthy for your baby or risk losing it for a memory you still will not get forcefully'.
'Thank you doctor. We shall see to it that we follow all your instructions'.
'You were so protective of her while she was here in the hospital, what happened when she was discharged? You relaxed your care?'
'Not exactly doc, but I am not the only person caring for her and some of them do not follow instructions and are ready to say anything that pops into their heads without thought but it shall be taken care of, thank you.
They collected their drugs and off they went home with Jason driving.
On their way, Jason looked at Nancy's worried face.
She had no memory of this pregnancy but since she was told that she was pregnant, she felt a kind of attachment to the baby. Now she would do anything to make sure that the baby was safe.
'Nancy, do not worry. It will be okay. I shall make sure that you get the best doctors to attend you. You and the baby shall be safe', Jason said deducing accurately that her baby's welfare was of great concern to her.
'Please. I do not want to hear anything from you. You are the cause of all these afterall'.
Jason was shocked at her outburst. What had she been listening to?
'What have you been listening to? What things has Phoebe been feeding you with?'
Rather than answer the question, Nancy chose to ask her own.
'Who is Rodney? Rodney Richmond?'
'Where did you hear that name?' Jason asked shocked that she should utter the name of the villain who got her into this mess in the first place.
'You mean you would like to know how I came about that name before you tell me who he is?'
'That's not what I mean. It just came as a shock to me that you knew that name. But if you know that name, then you must know the person who bears the name!' he said furious with Phoebe. Knowing instantly that this was her handiwork and filled with vengeful anger against her.
'I had thought that you were the biological father of my baby but you are not, are you? This Richmond guy is and you are jealous of him!'
Now, Jason knew without a doubt how the headaches came on. Phoebe had been dealing with Nancy in her spite and jealousy making all believe that she had her welfare at heart when what she wanted was to bring about more problems and Nancy who had taken her as her friend would not believe this.
'Phoebe had really been busy filling your head with everything she thinks that you need to know but you can see where it led you? Your health is suffering and so is your baby. So, you will decide what you want. Do you want to pursue this line of questioning and endanger your baby's life and your health or would you be patient knowing that I for one would gladly provide you with any information you need at the appointed time but that time is not now.
Be wise and know the people who want the best for you and your baby'.
What he said made sense and Nancy could not dispute it but she could not resist this last jibe.
'Stop acting as though you care more than everyone else about my baby. It is not yours afterall. You would even like it if it died so that you can claim full access to me but I assure you that I'd rather die than allow that'.
Remembering the promise she made Phoebe, she added, 'And for your information, no one told me about any of this.
I woke with the name in head and I went through some of my documents and saw the name as the father of my baby. So don't you go blaming anyone for this'.
Jason nodded.
He knew that she was just lying to cover up for Phoebe. The name could not just pop into her head and she knew to go through her things to find out who the name referred to.
She also would not have been as furious with him as she was if she had not been fed with lies.
Now he realised what Nancy had been trying to warn him about before this accident. She had been right and Chris as well that Phoebe wanted more from him than she was letting on.
He had not believed it then but for her to stoop this low, told him everything that he needed to know.
The conversation that Nancy had overheard had been true and even Dr. Manuel had not been able to dispute the possibility of the tech doctoring the results.
He would have to be careful from now hence forth because a woman who was capable of trying to harm another in this delicate condition of mental health and pregnancy could do anything including murdering her and no one would believe that she did such a thing and since Nancy had decided to trust her blindly which was no fault if hers but due to her lack of memory of her past antagonisms towards her was just an easy prey.
She must have been the one working with Richmond. How could he have been so blind.
He was not going to say anything to Nancy. She would not believe it anyways. She thought that he was the enemy. Let her continue to think that till he could catch Phoebe red handed or till her memory came back. He hoped it does soonest. He wished it more now more than ever.
