Chapter 158: Chapter 158

'You mean you cannot remember living here?' Phoebe asked Nancy.

They were walking in the premises.

Nancy had decided that she needed some air as well as a desire to exercise herself in the open by walking around and Phoebe had volunteered.

Sally thought it was very nice and thoughtful of her but Mrs. Potts was very apprehensive. Jason had gone out briefly for something and Chris had had to go back to London to get things going about his business. His family would be joining him the following week.

'No, I can't. I know that I am not supposed to force my memories but it is really frustrating not knowing anything about one's self'.

'Yes, indeed. It is frustrating. I cannot even imagine it. It would feel like being in a cage and being told what to do and what not to do like an animal in training", Phoebe said showing affected concern and understanding. 'But it is for your good and you have to endure it'.

'You are the only one who has been a bit more forth coming and being a woman, you seem more understanding. But where is the father of my baby? I have been bothered by this thought. I asked about this at the table yesterday but was not really given an answer. Jason is the father isn't he?' Nancy asked.

'Why would you think that he is?'

'Well Like I said yesterday, I feel connected to him somehow. How exactly, I do not know a d when he kissed me so deliciously later when he carried me upstairs to my room, I could have sworn that we had done it before though he apologised and left briskly. I had wanted to ask him if we had done it before but if he is the father of my unborn child, then we must have done more than kiss if you get my meaning', she said laughing self consciously.

Phoebe was angry. He didn't want anyone probing her or asking her questions that would force her memories but he was kissing her. Would that not have the same effect? And she was here lobbying for his attention and he behaves as though she, the wonderful Phoebe did not exist.

'I cannot tell you anything', Phoebe stated hesitantly but Jason is not the father of your child. But let's just leave it at that. If Jason were to know that I divulged this much information, then he would have my head on a platter. He can be ruthless you know. Don't be deceived by his false show of compassion!'

Nancy considered this. Jason had not felt to her like a heartless person but what did she know? Was it not just what she was just experiencing presently. He could be hiding a very mean personality. Phoebe had known him for a long time and had not list her memories of his behaviour, so she must know best.

'A penny for them?' Phoebe said smiling.

'For what?'

'Your thoughts. You seemed so far away just now'.

'I was thinking of Jason and thinking that he did not seem like a bad person to me but then again you must know better since your memory of his is not lost in a tragic accident like mine was'.

'And who said you were involved in an accident?' Phoebe asked.

'Ehat do you mean? How else did I get these injuries if not from an accident a d the whole family told me the same thing, not just Jason!'

' They were acting on his instructions. He is the don around here and we have to obey or his ruthlessness would come to the fore'.

'What are you insinuating? That I got this injury some other way and Jason was responsible?'

'I dare not utter a word. Please don't make me. I have said enough as it is'.

'ease. You know you are now my most trusted friend and I promise not to tell anyone whatever you tell me but please do not keep me in the dark like the others are doing'.

This was exactly what Phoebe wanted.

She pretended to hesitate some more.

'Please Phoebe. Or maybe you do not consider me your friend like I do'.

'No, of course I do consider you a good friend but I am really scared. You might change your attitude towards Jason and then he would deduce that you had heard something. You do not need to tell him, he reads body language as well. He is very smart and ruthless. He is known as the ruthless billionaire in these parts'.

'Will you tell me or not? I have promised to act like I heard nothing and I'll definitely not tell anyone about our little discussion out here. It would remain our little secret'.

Sighing, Phoebe said, 'The real father of your child, the one who made you pregnant and who you live dearly is Richmond. Rodney Richmond!'

'And where is he?'

'He has just been released from prison on bail where he had been rotting away'.

'How did he get into prison, Is he a criminal?'

'No. He is a wealthy business man and CEO but the both of you had a slight misunderstanding and you know how women can blow things out of proportion and you left, hoping that he would come for you to prove his love. While waiting for that to happen, you started working for Jason in the Campbell's Enterprises as his personal secretary and he started having feelings for you and decided that he must have you.

I do not know if you started liking him as well but how could you when you love the man who made you pregnant. He said he would claim your baby as his since your lover was not coming forth to show you his love'.

'But why did he not come forth?', Nancy asked confused, trying to digest the information she was getting. 'Was it because he was in Prison?'

'He was held up in business. He had to travel to different countries because of his business and you had lost your cell phone and he could not contact you. But when he came eventually to take you away, Jason refused and you could not decide who to go with. So, to solve the problem, Jason kicked him away and he got some people together to threaten Jason with a gun and when they started shooting, instead of shielding you, he used you as a shield and as you bent down to dodge the forthcoming bullet, it pierced your head and you had to be taken to the hospital and the man who had come to fight Jason for his love, the real father of your baby was apprehended as a criminal for fighting for his right and sent into police custody where he stayed for sometime before some of his friends came and bailed him out'.

The matter might be presented in court soon and you might be asked to testify against the love of your life and the father of your child'.

Nancy could not say anything. She just looked lost. Everything made sense and yet she felt that something just did not add up. What it was, was what she couldn't pinpoint at the moment.
