Chapter 157: Chapter 157

When Jason kicked the door open and carried her to her very large bed, Nancy looked round the room and smiled. She was being treated as a queen.

Back there she had got the courage to speak because of the presence of this man, whoever he was and whatever be the connection she had with him.

He had also anticipated her need by carrying her up the stairs.

'Who are you?' she asked Jason as he wanted to move away after covering her with the bed covers.

Her hands pulling him back.

Jason looked at the bed, so inviting with her lying innocently in it and wanted more than anything else to join her there.

'I am your best wisher', he said. It had been on the tip of his tongue to say that he loved her.

'I didn't want to ask you down there, well because I didn't want to embarrass you but you are not a doctor, are you?'

'No, I am not'.

'I thought as much but why did you lead me to believing that you were back in the hospital?'

'There are alot of things that you do not know or cannot remember about yourself, me, your surroundings and past. You will remember them all in due course and I pray it is soon because....'

He couldn't continue.

'Because what?' she asked still holding his hands and he didn't want to pull away. It gave him immense pleasure for her to hold him that way. It may not be a romantic touch to her but to him it meant so much.

'Because?' she prompted again.

He had been about to say that he could not stay much longer away from her pretending to be aloof but he smiled and said, 'Well be ause I want you to have your life back'.

Nancy let go off his hands. She did not know why she was disappointed by his answer. She had been expecting him to say something....'

She did not know what she had expected him to say but if he had said it,then she would not have felt this disappointed.

'Thanks so much for your care and concern I hope so too so that I can live my life to the full with my baby and his father. I know you own this house. I do not know how I know, I just do a d I am grateful to you for accommodating me here'.

Jason quickly knelt by the side of the bed.

'You do not have to thank me for anything. If anything, I should be thanking you. This is as much your house as it is mine', he said and when he saw the question in her eyes, he caught himself, 'What I mean is that I am happy to have you here and you should consider this your house as well and not feel like you are a guest here because yo all of us, you are not'.

She smiled, happy with his statement.

'Why, thank you', she said smiling and before he knew what he was doing, he was kissing her and though she was shocked at first, she found herself kissing him back.

It felt good being in his arms. It felt right. She could not explain it and the desires he evoked by his kisses.

He broke the kiss and, 'I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. You have a peaceful nap', he said and walked briskly away from the room before he revealed more than he should.

Nancy looked after him bemused. There was more to that man than he was letting on, she thought and she was determined to find out what it was. She would make it her mission to uncover the mystery behind that very attractive man.

She lay down and sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

Jason walked out of her room and gently shut the door and leaned on it to regain control over himself.

Her smile had really caused something to give way inside of him and he knew that he just had to kiss her or he would not feel alright.

It didn't help that rather than push him away, she had responded as she usually did and he had almost become carried away.

The fear of alarming her or revealing more than was good for her health was what made him tear himself away from her but that had taken every effort he could summon.

He wanted to go back to his room and think about his life but it would be rude. There were people downstairs waiting for him.

He climbed down the stairs.

'How is she?' Alfred asked.

'She is sleeping now'.

Chris looked into his eyes and saw a haunted man but he felt that he should be grateful that she was alive.

'We should be grateful that Nancy is alive and has full control of her faculties and not feeling depressed for her memory loss. A loss that would soon be recovered', he said looking at Jason pointedly and Jason nodded and made a sad attempt at a smile.

'That reminds me, Phoebe, I just didn't want to say anything in her presence. If you ever play this trick again, you will have me to answer to'.

'What trick was that?' she asked feigning ignorance.

'Don't ask her any unnecessary questions. Limit your discussions to the here and now and not bring about the past into all these. Because I have a mind to investigate and find out the person who helped Richmond in the first place. That I have kept calm does not mean I do not have my suspicions. Let everyone be warned', Jason said threateningly. Then in a softer voice, 'She has been through a lot lately. You could never imagine. She hasn't told me what she passed through before I got to where she was held captive but the one I experienced with her was an eye opener. I still shudder to think that she had had to go through that and being pregnant too.

I do not want her reliving the nightmares or anyone forcing her to recall those details before she has fully recovered from this amnesia'.

He stood and walked away into his room.

Chris understood what he was saying and so did Alfred.

Phoebe was calm but seething inwardly.

So he suspected that she had had a hand in Nancy's capture? He could never prove it. Of that she was sure nut as for jogging Nancy's memory, she was going to make it her life mission and if it further complicates her health matters, that would be even better!'
