Chapter 154: Chapter 154
Alfred returned home and after checking in the Campbell's mansion, was told that Jason was still in the hospital with Nancy.
A call came through just then.
'Sally, could you ask Mrs. Potts to make much of her sweet brooth? Nancy would need it now that she has been revived'.
'She has? Thank goodness. That is a weight off our shoulders. I shall tell Mrs. Potts right away'.
Sally rushed to the kitchen to tell Mrs Potts about this and Phoebe who had come to stay with Sally in the house was both sad and glad with the news.
Now the battle for Jason's love would continue and she knew who would win given all that she had been through and happy because her blood would not be on her conscience. She had been feeling mighty guilty all this while.
'This is great news', Alfred said. A d since I am ony way to the hospital, I shall take the brooth with me'.
Mrs. Potts quickly made the brooth and Alfred took it to the hospital and after asking at the reception and his identity certified, was directed to Nancy's ward.
Alfred got there thinking that he was going to meet the whole of them gathered round Nancy in a happy reunion but they were sitting far from her, though not entirely unhappy.
He gave them the brooth and asked for an update and was told all that happened and all that the doctor had said.
'And we hat of Maze?', he asked.
'That reminds me. I need to make a call.
He called the inspector he had handed over the arrest of Maze to and he told him that they caught Maze alright though he had tried to escape once more.
'He was outsmarted and overpowered and cuffed. We have him and his accomplice in our custody'.
'They must not be bailed out on any account'.
'Well about that, Richmond's wife called and informed us that she was sending her lawyer with the bail papers for her husband's bail and once that is done, we cannot keep him in custody'.
'Of course but his goons must remain in custody. No matter the bail, we all shall soon meet in court. I leave everything in your capable hands'.
'Thanks for your vote of confidence. How about the lady, Is she doing well?'
'Better than well, she has woken and we just have to wait for her to regain her strength's.
'Well congratulations on both counts. You got her back and was able to apprehend the culprits'.
'Thank you. We shall be in touch', and the call ended.
Alfred expressed his happiness at the way Jason had handled everything.
'Did you hear that? Thank goodness we did not show the woman our trump card. She heard that her husband was in trouble and must have been told the manner of trouble it is yet she chose to bail him out. She is the sort that does not like washing their dirty linen in public. She and her family might deal with him later but she would strive to protect her family name first', Alfred said in retrospection.
'Yes. Thank goodness we considered that fact, else we would have been getting worked up thinking what her line of action was going to be'.
They were still talking when Nancy woke.
Jason left both Chris and Alfred and moved hastily to the bed to cater for her needs.
'Where am I?' she asked looking around.
'You are in the hospital but you will be alright. You just need to eat and rest and gain back your strength', Jason assured her.
Alfred wanted to move close to the bed but Chris pulled him back, shaking his head.
'They need this moment together', he whispered.
'And who are you?'
Jason looked at her shocked then laughed thinking that it must be a kind of joke.
'Why are you laughing? Is the question funny? I want to know who you are. Oh, you must be the doctor attending me, since this is a hospital right?'
Jason looked at the other two men in the room. This was not funny at all and they all exchanged apprehensive glances.
Jason wanted to go into explanations to see if her memory could be jogged but remembered what the doctor had said about not stressing her brain cells.
'Don't bother about that right now. Just concentrate on getting better and stronger'. he said panic rising in him but he did all he could to hide it.
What was this? After everything they had been through, she had to have amnesia in the bargain?
'But if you are the doctor, who are those two men there?'
Jason quickly threw a glance their way.
'They are of no consequence, just some friends. Now, you should have some brooth. A nurse will be along soon to help you with your bath'.
He wanted to feed her the brooth but she declined saying that she could do it herself.
Jason hoped that the taste of the brooth would jog her memory but her expression did not change as she spooned the brooth slowly into her mouth with shaking hands.
'Who am I? What is my name?' she asked and Jason could no longer hold back his shock
This was way more than he had envisaged. She couldn't even remember who she was? Then it meant that she did not know how they ended up in the hospital. And not for the first time that day, Jason cursed Richmond and his goon, Maze. They would pay for all this.
'That much I can tell you. Your name is Nancy' a d you are a beautiful young girl'.
'My head aches', she said touching her head and feeling the bandage there asked, 'What happened? Why do I have something wrapped over my head?'
' You were involved in an accident. You received a blow to your head and that is why you feel this headaches but enough of the questions now. I shall get the specialist to give you some drugs for the pain and Jason hastily left the room in search of the doctor but not before the two men saw the tears in his eyes.
Jason felt that he had to leave the room before he embarrassed himself. He felt like crying out loud at the injustice of it all.
The young girl was made pregnant and Abandoned by the man who claimed yo love her. She was begining to get her life in order but the same villain hot her kidnapped, molested and shot and now she did not even know her own name.
How long was this amnesia going to last?
When was Nancy finally going to know happiness and not getting betrayed at each turn?
He got hold of the doctor and did not know where to start in explaining what he problem was to him. He was getting overwhelmed and he was also exhausted.
