Chapter 151: Chapter 151
When Grain had gone into Nancy's room to do the job they had planned, Maze had wanted to wander into the room that Jason had occupied previously. But he had to stoop when he heard footsteps coming his way.
'Why are you moving about, Old lady? Go and find a place to sit', someone said to him as they passed.
'Walking a put stooped like that, does she not have wait pain? These oldies should help themselves. If their children take them to an old people's home, they feel that they are despised but it is actually for their own good'. The other person said as they moved pass him.
The doctor with them laughed.
'I have to go and see that patient in a coma. I believe that she should be coming around soon, but if not, we are planning on asking the family members to give her a mercy death'.
Maze's ears pricked when he heard that. Was there any other patient in such a critical condition as the doctor had described than Nancy?
'Foolish me. Is Nancy the only patient in this hospital? The doctor could have been referring to someone else. It is not unusual for more than two people to be in a coma in a big hospital such as this',
he thought to himself trying to convince himself.
But as they went out of ear shot, Maze found that he was bothered. He could smell a fish.
'What harm could it possibly do to find out what patient they were referring to?'
He quickly followed the doctor who entered a room that was in the midst of other wards, not secluded like Nancy's ward was.
He felt that he had made a mistake and wasted useful time and was going to turn back and go a out the business that had brought him there. There was no way, they could put Nancy in a place as rowdy and surrounded by other hospital rooms as this one was. He was sure Jason with his arrogance would not allow it.
Bit as he turned back to leave, he heard a familiar voice inside the room.
'Doctor, there must be something we could do to wake her from her coma'.
That voice. It was the same voice that had spoken to him in Jason's hospital room where those children had interfered with his work.
What could he be doing there?
Unless....
But of course! After the attack, there was no way they ould have allowed Nancy and Jason to continue staying in their firmer rooms.
To be really sure, he peeped into the room and behold, there was Nancy on the bed with all the machines keeping her alive
He knew that he had to alert Grain so that he doesn't walk into a trap but it was possible that he already had and calling him would only give away his location.
So on second thoughts, he decided against calling Grain
He had been gone for a while and would have realized that the rooms had been changed.
Maze also decided that instead of looking for Jason, he could do away with Nancy. The security in her room was not as much as he thought would be.
He waited until the doctor had left and looking through the glass partition on the door, found that Chris was the only one with Nancy.
He rushed into the room with the intent to take Chris by surprise and remove the oxygen tube firm Nancy's nose. This he did and Chris was at first dazed but he quickly recognized the huge man.
After removing the tube, Maze quickly ran out but before he could take a step away from the room, Chris had released the alarm and alot of people including doctors came running towards the room.
Chris tried to prevent Maze from escaping but Maze was just st too weighty.
He struggled just a little and then there Chris away from the door.
This was also dew to the fact that Chris realised that instead of trying to stop the murderer,he should see how he could help Nancy before she breathed her last.
He picked himself up from where he had thrown him and rushed towards the bed to find Nancy taking deep breaths as though gasping for air., he wanted to put the tube back on her but didn't know if it would make the matters worse. He looked towards the doctors that had rushed into the room for help but by then, Nancy had stopped gasping for air.
Maze ran but he knew that he would be unable to make it to the gate because the word would have reached the guard at the gate not to allow anyone out.
He was also sure that there were police men there and that this very energetic young man running after him was none other than a police officer.
He dodged behind a door and the police ran ahead thinking that he was still running down the stairs or the elevator.
His heart was beating very rapidly. He knew that he had taken a risk but he had to do something, else the operation would have flopped again that day again and he could not afford it. He knew that day was the only day he had to rectify the mistake of the other day.
Giving the critical condition of the patient, he knew that Nancy must be dead by then.
How could she not be when it was the oxygen that kept her alive?
He had to call Grain to intimate him on the recent development be ause in the event that he escaped the trap, he might not know where to look but would get into trouble.
They had planned on the place to meet once they had finished their operation but he would need some help in order to get to their rendezvous, else, he did not know what would become if him but one thing gave him joy and that was that, that slut, Nancy, was dead and by his own hands. The satisfaction it gave him might make people consider him a pervert and a sadist but he just didn't care.
The girl had brought all these on his boss and all of them and he had made sure that she got what was coming to her.
He looked round, wondering if there was any means of escape like the central air room, he could disable the fan in the ceiling and go off from there but he would still need help.
Then he decided it was time he called Grain.
