Chapter 150: Chapter 150

Grain and Maze decided to make their attack that day. They felt that the police had reduced because of other cases they had to handle.

Maze told Grain the intensive unit where Nancy was kept.

They decided that they would do away with her first.

They had seen how doctors went into the room because Grain had come the previous day to monitor activities. Maze had not dared to come in his true form but disguised as a bent old woman.

They had come and monitored things and felt at the end of that day that they had got the information they needed.

So, today was the day they attacked subtly with no one being any the wiser.

Who would imagine that Maze would fate come into the hospital with all the security and especially the room of Nancy where there were many people keeping watch?

They had planned that Grain would take out Nancy while Maze would take out Jason and then quickly go out disguised the way they had come in, mission accomplished.

So, While walking straight when he got to places where there were no people or he felt the people are not threatening, he would stand straight but bend immediately he heard footsteps coming his way or when he got to any session where there were much people because you never knew who could be in the crowd.

Grain had abandoned him and gone ahead to Nancy's ward.

He knocked and seeing a nurse there, told her what he had planned to tell anyone he met there.

'Hello, nurse but the doctor out there asked me to call for you'.

'Doctor? But I have been asked not to leave this post for anything at all'.

'Well I wouldn't know but he said it was an emergency, something to do with a patient called Nancy'.

'Really? I hope it's good news', and

the nurse stood and left the room not bothering to ask him to leave first.

Grain found that disturbing.

How would a nurse guarding a patient whose life was in danger just leave a stranger in the room and leave?

And the statement she made about hoping it was good news, what did that mean? Maybe that there was a new way to get the patient out of coma?

That must be it because nothing else made sense.

Then it occured to him, it could be a trap?

'What the hell?', he thought. Nobody was there in the room with him and there was Nancy wrapped in the bed sheets on the bed with the machines all round.

Even if he couldn't wait to put the plug back in, he will at least have achieved the purpose for which he came.

He walked stealthily towards the bed and Nancy, knowing that the nurse would be back any instance.

He pulled the oxygen tube from her nose and a hand caught him.

Grain was shocked. Had Nancy regained consciousness then?

But the hand that held his was a strong one with an iron grip.

The person threw the bed overs away from his body and it was a man there.

Grain knew instantly that this was Jason Campbell.

He had known that this was a trap and had allowed his impatience to make him fall into the trap.

He wanted to run away but held himself as he thought fast.

Running would give him away and he still had a job to do.

'What is the meaning of this?' he asked.

'Were you trying to kill Nancy?'

'Nancy? Who is Nancy? I came in here to check on the patient since the nurse was not around and the tube slid of by mistake. I was going to quickly put it back and you are accusing me? Please Mr. Have we met before?'

His confident tone and the logic with which he spoke caused Jason to be bemused but he was not going to take his word for it till he had confirmed what he said.

'Who asked you to come check on the patient? And how come you do not know the name of the patient you were supposed to check up on?'

'A big doctor. This tall and huge', he demonstrated describing Maze.

He asked me to send the nurse to him for further instructions concerning a patient named Nancy and that I was to check on the patient on the bed. He said they were short of staff and when I got back, he would give me something for my pains'.

Jason felt that the small guy must be saying the truth and that Maze had put him up to this since he could not risk doing it himself.

'Where is this big doctor?'

'Well, I met and left him across the hall there', he pointed. He was acting as though he had alot of things to do. Probably alot of patients to check up on. I was going to ask him to send me on further errands if I saw how well he paid me'.

Jason looked at him somehow. The sharpness of his eyes struck him as one not belonging to a deprived person who would run menial errands for money but he had more important things to attend to first.

He had to catch Maze. If he was in the hospital somewhere, then he was not going to escape this time. This man would be dealt with layer after proper questioning.

'What is your name?'

'Samuel Park' he replied, giving him the first name that popped into his head.

'Where exactly did you see the man, I mean the doctor go?'

'Is something the matter?' he asked in pretended ignorance and confusion.

'No, but I have to have a word with him. He is my doctor afterall.

Grain hid a little smile and nodded as though he understood perfectly.

He also remembered Maze telling him where Jason's hospital room was and he pointed in that direction to make his story more credible.

'Of course', Jason thought. Maze had come to see if he could take him out again but he had a surprise awaiting him.

'Are you sure?' Jason asked.

'I am. He walked briskly in that direction but since he was in such a hurry to finish his rounds, he must have gone somewhere else'.

'Okay. Just stay out in this room. It would s my room. When I get back, I shall give you triple what the doctor wanted to give you. Let me ask him first what he had in mind for you first after discussing some important things with him. Don't go anywhere, do you understand that? I might have some work for you as well afterwards'.

'Certainly!' he said with fake enthusiasm.

Jason ran off in the direction, the man called Samuel Pack had pointed.

Grain looked after him and laughed.

'This rich people are just too foolish. How did he think I'd stay here and wait for him to get the police to apprehend me? And see how easily he bought my story. I would have been more skeptical but then again, I nearly convinced myself that I was Samuel Park', he thought shaking his head in silent mirth.

He remembered he had a work still undone. He had to inform Maze that Nancy had been moved and tell him briefly all that had happened in the ward.
