Chapter 149: Chapter 149
'Can I have my phone now? It should be charged by now', Jason asked Chris.
Chris went to where he had been charging it and got it.
For a moment there, he thought that Maze or whatever his name was had taken it but thank goodness it was still there.
He handed it over to Jason who quickly called Alfred.
'Jason, is that truely you? The things I heard had happened to the both of you was such that I was scared for both your lives', he said heaving a sigh that at least Jason was still alive then there was hope for Nancy.
'How is Nancy? Is she out of danger?' he asked enthusiastically.
'We are still keeping our fingers crossed. She is still in coma. But there has been a recent development. One of Richmond's men who escaped came into the hospital in the guise of a doctor and made attempts on both our lives. Thank goodness that he was found out. Both of us would have died and there would have been no case against him since there would have been no one to testify against him. I feel that he sent his goon to do away with us for that singular purpose. He will try again and we are waiting for him to fall into the trap we have set for him'.
Alfred felt that the nightmare may just never end.
'I should come there and see how I can help out. I was so angry when I heard about the shootout and the result that I wanted to take matters into my hands and reveal everything to his wife but she travelled to somewhere for a few days. A sister's or cousin's baby shower or something. I could not wait till you were conscious again but maybe it was a good thing that she was not home so that you give me the necessary instructions'.
'If you had told her, had she been home, it would have been a good thing but now, you will have to tell her the whole story, starting from your date and what happened afterwards. If she doubts it, she is to call the police here to find out. On no account should you give her my number'. Tell her how Nancy is still in a coma with a head injury that she may never recover from and the recent attack on both our lives to stop us testifying against him.
I would not have told her all these be ause she and her family are powerful and inflential and could cover it up in some ways but I have reason to think that things may not be alright between them' Jason said.
'Why would you think that? Did he give any indication to that effect?'
'Someone who was willing to let Nancy go because she refused to abort the pregnancy which to him would implicate him and get him into trouble with his wife and her family, suddenly now wants both the mother and the unborn child and was not even considering his so called wife.
Either he is plotting against his wife in some ways or wants to take vengeance for something she may have done against him'.
'But since we are not sure, is it not possible that the wife's affection for her husband would over ride all other issue and telling her all these would just put her on her guard and give the opposition ammunition to use against us?'
'Also, the woman may hate the man's guts and want him dead but may want it to be a private family thing but would want to keep up appearances and so may help her husband out of this mess to deal with him in her own way later without making it public and hence preventing a scandal.
Jason thought about this and decided that Alfred was right. It was not good doing things in anger without thinking it through. The woman would want to protect her family name and a oud scandal of any sort. He would have to devise another means of destroying the man in every way because he has taken his joy from him no matter temporary and he sincerely hoped it was temporary.
'Since that is the case, we must not do things in haste due to our fury and ruin the whole thing, giving the energy our trump card. Return home immediately, we need more hands here'.
'Roger that. Over and out', Alfred said imitating agents on a mission just to lighten the mood. Jason smiled.
Alfred was not really a bad person.
He had decided that he was going to stay with Nancy as her guard.
'Are you really strong enough for that? You are not fully recovered. If it comes to fisticuffs with the murderer will you hold out? At least let someone stay there with you', Sally had suggested.
'My hospital bed is now with her. Anyone who wants to get to her, will have to go through me first! And I am a man. This injury has not weakened me by the way, it has rather energized me the more with fury. I can take on anyone. Let them just dare!' he said angrily.
Chris knew that he spoke the truth. Just like hell hath no fury than a woman scorned', hell hath no fury than a man whose love or mate's life is threatened by another man.
So the arrangements were made and Nancy's ward became Jason's as well.
There were a few police on guard as well waiting for the fool to attack again and fall into the trape that had already been laid for him.
A few adjustments had been made but secret that just a few of the hospital staff knew about it because Jason could not afford to trust anyone. They could be in cohort with the criminals.
They waited and the first day went uneventfully.
Jason was not giving up because he knew that his enemies would not be giving up either.
So with each passing day, he knew that rather than relax, he would be fired up the more because it would mean that the energy was taking their time to launch a very serious well thought of attack.
