Chapter 148: Chapter 148

Maze was really angry. Furious was more like it. He didn't like failed attempts because it takes the time of some other task.

He would have to make other plans now and hopes this time he succeeds, because time was of the essence.

He recalled how he had used a man to speak with his boss where he had told him through the middleman what his plans were and how his boss had been pleased and had given him the go ahead.

He could not go back now and tell him that he had failed.

So he would keep trying until he succeeded.

Maze thought that now that the police was on the look out for him, considering his physic, it would not be long before his disguise failed him.

He decided he would employ the help of a colleague and friend who was as wise to these things like he was.

'Good day, Wind', he greeted when he visited him.

'Well, if it isn't Maze. What brings you to these parts? Since you left our group and started working with this boss of yours, you have not deemed if fit to visit your old friends and colleagues'.

'Well I am here today and this is not the way to welcome an old friend'.

'What did you expect, that I'd hug you for your neglect all these years?'

'You know how the work is. There is no time. We are always on duty and distractions and mistakes are not allowed'.

'So why are you here because this cannot be a friendly visit. You must be here still in the line if duty, tight?'

'You are very perceptive. I'd like you or any of your man whom you can trust to deliver, to come with me and help me carry out an operation that is yet to be completed but which should be and which I am anxious must be completed soonest because alot of things hing on it's completion'.

Wind had heard from the grapevine that Maze was now a wanted man. Wind was always careful about coming into contact with the police force.

He did not know if he should help him for friendship sake and as colleagues they should stick together or he should make some excuses why they couldn't participate in his operation whatever it was.

'This operation of yours is of what category? Assassination, prison break or burglary or abduction?'

'I have long forgotten about burglary. Who needs that when my boss takes great care of us and keeps us we'll supplied?' Maze said knowing that would motivate Wind to help him.

'So what is this work description?'

'Assassination!'

'Ah!' Wind emitted.

'You shall be adequately compensated. And it should not be too difficult because the people are indisposed and it is just a matter of getting into the hospital under any guise and killing them off.

As a matter of fact, one of them is on life support. Once the oxygen supply is cut off, she is dead'.

'She? Both of them ? Indisposed? Life support? Hmmm. If it is as easy as you say, then knowing you as I do and your capabilities, it shouldn't be hard for you to do. You should be able to carry out the assignment effortlessly. Why do you need my help?'

'Well because....'

'Oh, you are hiding from the authorities, right and your physic is not helping one bit because not many people have your strong and heavy build. It would not have been a problem. The reason I am called 'Wind is because like the wind, I cannot be caught'.

'That is exactly the reason I have come to you because if anyone can do it successfully, you can but wait a minute, your sentence has a 'but' in it. What is the problem?'

'I have an operation at hand now but I am willing to spare one of my men. He is called Grain. He will deliver but if anything goes wrong, we were never there. Is that a deal?'

Maze considered this. He did not know who this Grain was, he must be new in the group but if Wind trusted him, then he must be good'.

'I accept but I assure you, there shall be no complications'.

'How soon do you want this done?'

'At the earliest!' Maze said.

Wind called for the man called Grain and just like his name he was smallish. The exact opposite of Maze. Maze had his doubts but he had no choice. They spoke of the terms and Grain went off with him.

Before they left, Wind had a word with him to ensure that he is not caught be ause if he were foolish enough to do that, then the group should not be brought into it.

'If you have to run to save your ass at his detriment, then do it but the group must not be compromised, else you shall not live to tell the tale', Wind warned him.

'I already know the rules, boss!'

'Good for you. Now get going and do me proud', he said aloud.

Grain nodded as he walked away with Maze for briefing on what should be done and where he would find the targets.

As they walked away, Maze briefed him about Nancy and her present condition and described her, telling him where to find her.

'Where you may have a little problem is the man. He is really quick witted. And he has regained consciousness. You have to be very careful with him. In fact with the whole operation because since I tried and was almost caught, the security must have increased. The police may also be there in mulfty. You have to be wiser than they are and fast too.

With all the information, Grain reached a decision.

'We have to strike immediately. They would not be expecting you to attack again so soon. They would expect you to allow a few days to elapse and they would be looking for a heavily built man and not someone as smallish and who had no obvious strength as I look'.

Maze looked at the little man with admiration and felt that he must have underestimated him. His suggestion was exactly one that he would have come up with.

'Great! Let's get on with it then'.
