'The question now is how do we get to London now? Is it possible to book a plane or what do you think?' Alfred asked thinking chaotically.

'Except he was sure of the success of his operation, I do not think that he booked a return ticket. If I didn't know better, I'd think that someone close to me is helping him.

Also, they couldn't have gone that far, he or the thug he hired may decide to stay somewhere, in a hotel or something and plan to leave the next day. How to find the hotel is what we have to determine'. Jason said, deep in thought.

'I wanted to ask if there is a member of your family or circle of friends who does not approve of Nancy who could want to assist Rodney?'

'My sister likes Nancy but does not want me to get closer to her than necessary because if her pregnancy. She does not know who the father is but she is of the opinion that sooner or later, the father might just come to claim the baby abd if she and I are in any deep commitment, it might cause some problems, so she would rather I marry Phoebe who claims to be pregnant with my baby'. Jason had not wanted to tell him that much but he felt that it was better to place his cards on the table and see if any could led them to Nancy with immediate effect.

'You are a smooth worker aren't you? You got a lady you do not want to marry pregnant but want to marry one that is having another man's baby. Your life is pretty messed up, isn't it?' Alfred asked looking at him pityingly.

'But I do not think that my sister could stoop as low as endangering a pregnant woman just to prove her point', Jason said as though Alfred had not spoken.

'Then what of this Phoebe lady? Your ex wife?' he asked.

'My ex wife?'

'Yes. She might want to come back into your life, having regretted allowing a gem like you to slip through her fingers and feels that this girl is the only thing preventing you from taking her back'.

'Rebecca does not even know of Nancy nor her background'.

'You speak as though you are naive. This can easily be remedied, you know. She could dig around to know if there is anyone special in your life that could make someone like you who had loved her madly, like the grapevine says to lose interest totally in her. Or just like Rodney, she might have watched you at party without you noticing. Where better to know one's weaknesses if not at such a get together where everyone's guard is down? And she might have seen the way you look at Nancy and danced with her and read the body language perfectly. Women know these things you know.

Or this Phoebe lady could be assisting Rodney because being close to you and realising that you do not want to marry her even with the pregnancy hanging over your head, finds out or you may have told her....'

'I told her I was not interested in getting married to her. I also told her that I did not believe that the baby was mine'.

'See, she could be jealous of this person who has stolen your heart that you are willing not to accept her pregnancy and decide to do something that would get her put of the way permanently'.

Jason considered this.

'And by the way, why do you think that the baby is not yours? Don't tell me that you are so smitten with Nancy that you would even deny your own baby just to be with her? She is an understanding person and will accept you and the baby just like you are willing to accept hers'.

'You ask questions like the lawyer that you are. I doubt her because our relationship was special, we were free to see other people and I never met with her without protection and she was supposed to be on the pill as well

Do how did it happen?'

'Then go for a paternity test!'

'We went for a DNA test but the result clearly stated that I was the father. I was shocked and skeptical but was going to accept the condition she laid out about contracting a marriage of convenience with her just to give the child legitimacy and divorcing her a year or two later. But Nancy claims that she overheard her speaking to the technician that works in the hospital where the test was carried out asking for the balance of his payment which was a steamy time at a hotel together and Phoebe saying that she was not even sure I was convinced about the doctored result'.

'Wow, that explains alot. If she can go to such lengths to get you to accept her pregnancy and marry her, then she can get Rodney to abduct the only thorn in her flesh and only obstacle to her dream of being your wife. Take it from me, if we are to believe any of this and I certainly will not doubt Nancy, then she was never planning on giving you a divorce or she might have an ulterior motive for marrying you. Maybe to get at your wealth?'

' it there is a problem with that line of thought. She was not there to hear what Rodney had to say to Nancy and me'.

'And she could not have eavesdropped like Nancy eavesdropped on her conversation with the lab tech'? Never underestimate a woman especially the one scorned'.

'You sound like my brother in law. He is in the same profession as you and he said the same thing about Phoebe feeling scorned. That reminds me. I have not told those at home what has happened and it is dark now. We can really not do much. We shall have to wait till tomorrow. The first will be to get to London to speak with Richmond. I would have said to call him and threaten him but he will be on his guard. Right now, he isn't sure we suspect him. Let him believe we are not on to him. It will give him a false sense of security. Will you be chanced to come with me tomorrow?'

'Do you even need to ask? We are now friends, good friends if you please and partners', Alfred said offering his hand.

Jason looked at his outstretched hand for a while and then a smile broke his stern features as he took Alfred's hands and gave him a warm handshake.

He needed allies now and not foes if he was to get Nancy back safe and sound.
