Pregnant?

'Alfred, did you anything I said at all? You are so quiet'.

Pregnant? How? It was definitely not Campbell's going by what she had said then whose could it be?

Nancy did not look to him like someone who was promiscuous but then one could never tell but maybe there was a story behind the pregnancy.

'Alfred?'

'Yes? Yes, I heard all that you said but you must either have a very tiny stomach or else you know how to camouflage the pregnancy. I could never have guessed. But tell me, If Jason is not the father, who then is?'

'He is someone you do not know and I do not want to involve you in this. It is really complicated', she said tired of telling people the origin of her pregnancy.

'Were you in love with him?'

'At the time, I thought that I was. He was my very first. But I didn't know that behind his persistent pursuit of me and his determination to make me fall for him was all a farce. It was aimed at getting between my thighs.

When he realised I was pregnant, he asked me to abort and when I refused, he called it quits with me because he did not want his marriage to hit the rocks. A marriage I never knew existed in the first place'.

'So, you decided to end your life for a low life like him? Thank God Jason came to the rescue. But I just found out something else. You are in love with Jason too'.

'I was grateful to him that I did not know when I started falling in love with him but not to worry, I believe it is not mutual and I have to bear it alone'.

'But how do you know that it is not reciprocated? The way he guards you and since we came here, the way he's been looking at you with his heart in his eyes, I felt like a fool. I should have observed all these before. With all these, I do not think there is any hope for me or is there?'

'I am sorry Alfred. It would be unfair to you if I should accept you as anything more than a friend because I shall not be true to you'.

'You were using me this evening to get Campbell jealous weren't you?'

Nancy was shocked at his astuteness.

'I am sorry once again. Can we be friends?'

'It is really awkward that you should aske that because I am already half way in love with you but instead of not having you by my side, I'd rather have you as a very good friend. Now let us finish our food and drink. Oh no, you shouldn't take anything alcoholic. Why not a glass of orange juice?'

Nancy smiled appreciatively. 'I would like it spiked with lemon , thanks'.

Alfred signaled the waiter and told him what to bring and it was brought for Nancy who took the cup appreciatively.

Jason who was watching them was shocked at the change of mood. From steamy glances, he could see care and that scared him even more.

He had always looked round to see if everything was okay and that was what he did now.

Rodney seeing this hid his face behind a newspaper.

He had also seen what the couple did and was bemused.

As much as he enjoyed the scene not because he liked seeing Nancy with someone else and she really looked like a sexy doll that evening but because of the pain and jealousy it was causing Jason, he felt that he had to do something.

But what couple would get wedded the next day and instead of being at home making love or getting ready for their special day would allow their spouse to go out smooching with another partner while they watched?

It was not as though Nancy sneaked out for the date, she had gone from the Campbell's mansion.

Could it be that Phoebe was wrong about the wedding or was she using him for her own selfish gains?

Whatever it was, it had been part of his plan to abduct Nancy since Jason had refused to let her come to him willing and she was acting stubborn.

They might think that love could not be forced but he was going to get her by any means possible. Then he would keep her under lock and key, provided with the best care till she gave birth

He hoped to win her back by then either through tender loving care or brutality.

Once she was scared stiff of him, she would not want to go against him.He would not want to do that to her but if she left him no choice, then there was nothing he would be able to do about it.

Right now, he had to concentrate on getting her into the car that was already waiting. He knew that two cars might chase them, Jason's and the young man's but he did not care. Once he set his mind on something, then he would go all out to achieve it just like he planned to ruin his wife and family but first things first.

'Thank you so much for understanding and accepting to be my friend. You are a good man and I know you will find someone worthy of your love and give you more happiness than you expect'.

'Thanks for your best wishes. Campbell has been growing our way since we got here. He just might snap and give me the beating of my life', he said looking Jason's way. Nancy followed his gaze and saw that Jason did not look too happy and they both burst into laughter at his comment that Jason might give him the beating of his life.

Nancy did not think it likely but then again, people could be unpredictable.

Wiping the tears from her eyes from laughing too hard, she felt it was time she went home and had a little rest.

'We had better get going', Alfred said signalling the waiter and dropping some bills on the table and a generous tip as well.

He stood and took her hands in his lovingly.

They walked out of the place without soaring Jason a second glance.
