Chapter 4: Chapter 4
Hold on baby girl I’m on my way. By the time she hung up, she did not even recall the last time she had cried that much. She had wanted to keep them waters held back yet it was like all the tears in her entire life wanted to come at that moment. Every bad memory was running through her head and she felt pity for herself. Crying like this, she was interrupted by the banging of her door when Alex entered the house in one walk of power.
Seeing her she threw herself in her arms and let herself feel supported in all this. All her other friends or people she had thought were her friends had deserted her the moment things had started going downwards. But so, what, maybe having misfortune was a way to prove her true friends. This was way better.
Sometime later, she was laughing so hard she felt like she was going to break. They had gotten some ice-cream and watched some soapy romantic movies that had every heartbreak as a result of the man being in the wrong. Then they had massacred every man in every foul language that they could ever master, and even unanimously agreed that all men were dogs. And she had taken hot drinking chocolate with lots of sugar, making it syrupy sweet.
Somehow, having Alex here made her feel better, the way they talked took her mind off things and when they got into serious talking, she could see that things could actually work out. When they discussed her idea to start up once more, Alex was in support and looking at her, Lisa felt blessed. So, what if the only man she had loved had betrayed her. it did not mean that people did not love her. there were people that genuinely loved having her. and as they said, time was the master healer, and maybe with time, she could get past him and get married or find love once again, the thought of which still sent a sharp pain in her heart.
Morning came faster than she had imagined and with her new found confidence, she was up and about preparing breakfast for her and Alex. Alex on the other hand took her time, turning lazily on the bed until ten o’clock when she finally woke up for her breakfast. And she bet that was because she could feel the aroma of her pancakes. Surprised, well even rich kids could cook. Actually, that had been their bonding time, between her and her dad.
Getting a hug from her, they settled down for their breakfast before the doorbell rang. There was someone at their place this early. “Were you expecting someone?” Alex asked as she slurped her hot coffee slowly.
“Not really but I will go check who it is.” Drawing her robe closer, she opened the door and she was met with a short busty blonde girl, who was on red power heels. Her face was held in a serious ponytail that looked even painful to her scalp, her hair flat on her head. Her face was covered by eye glasses and the rest of her body a boring librarian suit. On her hand she carried a small bag.
“Hi, I’m Sam and I’m from the Baclays bank.” She said as she stretched her hand for a greeting. I’m Lisa, I’m sorry but how may I be of help.
“I think we might need to sit down for what I want us to discuss.”
“Okay, then please do come in. what can I offer you?”
“A glass of water will do thank you.”
Settling down afterwards, she proceeded to have the shock of life to know that everything was being confiscated. This was because they had mortgage for the company and now those loans had to be paid off. The bill was in billions and now she was wandering how the hell it had gotten to be like that. How they been given so much to cater for the company, and if they had so much money then why did their company go bankrupt.
She could feel her head turning, thankfully she was seated otherwise if she was standing, she may have embarrassed herself by keening over. They wanted everything in the house, oh and their cars. Their bank accounts now frozen. It was like cold water was poured on all her joy and excitement. Now, they were literally poor without a dime to themselves. She had twenty-four hours to move out of the house before they came.
If she was devastated before right now she was ruined. There wasn’t going to be any getting back on their feet. How she held her tears until Sam left, she did not know. But somehow, she had and the next moment, Alex was walking her down to a couch because apparently, she had stood and she was shaking. Her eyes felt glassed as she turned to look around yet she couldn’t see anything. Everything was crumbling.
“Lexi, it’s all over, she said as she crumbled on the couch. It’s all over. Why did all these things have to happen Lexi, tell me. What wrong have I done?” Lisa said as she struggled to stop crying and in turn stop the fore coming migraine. But even as she cried, she felt tired. She had to look for a way out.
Bathing, she went together with Alex to visit her dad, whose room had to be degraded because they could no longer afford it. The only good thing that had happened was that her dad had regained his consciousness, albeit at the cost of his memories. He could remember her but not anything else. Seeing him like this, how could she pour out her heart to him. He looked like an innocent child, yet his eyes shined with love for her.
