Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Five years later

The noise within the airport was a mix of excitement and a confused melee as visitors tried to locate their friends and relatives who had come to pick them. On this certain day, a beautiful blonde-haired lady strode through the airport terminals, pulling her bags behind her. behind her was a young girl that resembled her like a carbon copy, the only difference being her very black hair and blue eyes that seemed to contain a hint of mischief.

Standing at the edge, they could very well be the source of everyone’s admiration. At this moment, the lady was straining on her heals looking through the throng of family and relatives to see her friend. On seeing her, she broke into a wide smile and moved very fast to her. she hugged her even before her friend could recognize her. just before her friend could start swearing at pushing her back, she hugged her even tighter and whispered. “Hi Lexi”

Alex stood there flabbergasted and shocked. Stammering, she pulled her from the hug, while quickly pulling quickly out the sunglasses. “Li…. Lisa?” tears clouded her eyes and seeing her friend getting so emotional, she could only hug her again. “Yes, me Lexi, how is my favorite girl doing.”

She asked as she still held her. “What the hell, stop hugging me. I am so mad at you. What kind of a friend shuts up like that? In the last two years, we have only spoken how many times, is it twice or thrice. And now you call me your favorite girl. No, you hate me. And you even made me miss out on the growth of my little baby. Eh where is she?”

Lisa could feel the tears gathering in her eyes. Yes, this was her friend Alex, the only one that had kept true to her over all the years. She had helped even when she had explicitly ordered that she does not help. It was as she asked where her daughter was that they realized someone tugging their clothes from beneath them. “Mama, who is she.” Lisa’s daughter Marya asked as she stared at the big auntie before her with an adorable pout. “Oh baby, sorry I forgot about you. This is your aunt Alex. Say hi to her.”

Before Marya could even say hi, she was abruptly taken from Lisa’s hands by Lexi, who then took to hugging her and smothering her sweet little face with lots of kisses. “Oh, my sweet little baby, you have grown so much and I have missed you so much.” Placing her down, she asked Marya to pose for a pic and in seconds the two were so into each other that Lisa as the mother felt sidelined. Whose baby was this. Was she Lexi’s or her own? She thought as she watched them bitterly. Her father had also doted on Marya so much that sometimes even punishing her was a little problematic, though she had to agree she found her little pouts irresistible.

Now looking at them, she realized she would have to be the voice of reason among them if they were ever going to get Marya’s life the strictness that was required for discipline. Somehow, they managed to stop their oohs and ahhs and finally Lexi guided them to her car. Within a few minutes they were traipsing through the streets of the city watching in awe everything that bypassed them. Everything looked so different to her while Marya kept exclaiming on everything she saw like a little tourist. When she saw the water fountains in the city, with the water jets alternating in pushing the water, she was entranced and it was only with the promise of coming back here that they finally moved on.

Sadly, the thoughts of this city as they moved through it brought the unpleasant memory of how she had moved out of the country to seek peace and a new space and a new start because somehow, she had felt suffocated being around there where everything had fallen into pieces. Really what had catapulted her action was the realization that she was three weeks pregnant. This had happened as they moved out of her father’s room in the hospital.

She had swayed and the next moment she had come to, was on a hospital bed, with a drip attached to her hand and the worried face of her friend staring right at her. licking her lips, she tried to talk and her voice somehow came roughly.” What happened Lexi, why do I have this drip,” she asked as looked through the room.

“Nothing much happened Lisa, it was just that you fainted. Let me call the doctor so that she can talk to us.” Going to the office, she came back with the doctor in tow and by the smile on her face she could not help wonder what had happened. “How are you feeling miss Morgan. Congratulations on being pregnant.” This was the biggest bombshell. Nothing had ever happened that had ever shaken her like this news at that moment. With tears, she had tried to voice herself and yet through the shock she could not even say anything. She was pregnant. The doctor thought that she was so ecstatic to the point of being at a loss for words but she knew better.

Her heartbeat increased and she could feel herself on the verge of being crazy. She was pregnant with that bastard’s child. How could it have happened like that. Was there something out there out for her blood, otherwise why would she be punished like that. Instantly she hated that she was pregnant. At the same moment, she could only hear the fading words of the doctor as she asked her not to stress herself because that would harm the fetus. At that moment, she could not help but want to get rid of whatever it was that was growing inside her.

She had a baby growing within her, the baby to Omar, who Lisa could swear that she now hated with the same intensity that she had loved him. Her mind was reeling and she could not seem to come up with a good solution. Abortion was way off the charts. She could not bear to do that, not to something growing within her. or maybe she would have a miscarriage and wouldn’t carry the baby to full term but even as she thought like that, she could feel shame and reproach crooning on her. it was not the fault of her baby that she hated Omar, and that he wanted nothing to do with her.
