Chapter 70 Taking Care of Him

Elly arranged the materials for the afternoon meeting and as soon as she got up from her chair, she ran into Secretary Leon hurriedly passing by.

"I'm sorry. Are you all right?" She worriedly said.

Secretary Leon hid the things on his hand and talked to Elly with a serious expression. "Inform everyone that this afternoon's meeting has been canceled."

"Yes, sir." Elly confusingly answered. She watched Secretary Leon disappear quickly behind the door of the manager's office.

Despite her doubts, Elly did not care too much, and following Secretary Leon's instructions, she informed various departments to cancel the meeting.

She had planned to go back to her desk to continue her unfinished work, but she was attracted by the gossip.

'Do you know why the meeting this afternoon was canceled?' someone muttered.

Everyone else shook their heads and Elly couldn't help but listen.

'Listen, Boss Alex is sick.'

'Boss Alex worked overtime again last night. He must have caught a cold.'

'A robot-like Boss Alex can't stand the intensity of working day and night.'

When Elly heard this, she was stunned. She remembered the coat that she had worn last night and felt guilty. Alex must have been caught a cold because he gave her his clothes.

As she thought of Alex's character, Elly guessed that Alex might be quirky and refuse to take his medicine. She looked for her spare medicine in her drawer and took a cup of water and rushed into the Director's office.

She hesitated to enter the room for a while as she was worried that the medicine might not work.

As soon as she entered the door, she heard Alex's snuffle who was leaning on his chair with his head closed, pale, and looking lazy. Elly looked at the distance.

There was no document genie on the table, no footsteps left, and Alex unknowingly opened his eyes. There was a hot water cup on the table, and next to him was Elly looking at him anxiously.

"Why did you come in?" Alex asked coldly

"I heard you were sick." Elly pointed to the hot water cup on the table. "These are dumpling slices. This will help you. Drink it quickly."

"I'm not sick. What medicine did I take?" Alex frowned and secretly scolded Secretary Leon.

His unpleasant expression made her misunderstand and gently advised herself. 'Whether it is bitter or not, don't be afraid!'

The red light crushed the white circles under his eyes a little because of the fever. When he glared up, he looked very ferocious. He stared at her and said "I'm not sick, I won't drink it"

"You're so hot, you're sick!" Elly touched his forehead and began to get angry. "Are you a three-year-old child? Why are you so stubborn? Take your medicine!"

She put the pill in his mouth and get angry at him so he won't hesitate.

When Alex looked at her ferocious eyes, he did not want to let her down. He held her wrist and took a small drink of water medicine.

Elly realized what happened that she stopped a little, clasped her wrist tightly by him, and fed him a cup of medicine. She blushed but dared not to flinch.

After drinking the medicine, he let go of his wrist, licked his mouth, and squinted at her. "It's sweet, not bitter," he said.

"You don't have to worry" Alex looked at her shyly and asked her in a harmonious voice, he was hoping that there would be no side effects from taking too many drugs.

Elly tried to press her chest lightly and said hesitantly. "Sorry about that!"

The sudden apology stunned Alex and asked suspiciously. "Why would you blame me?"

"If you had not given me your coat last night, I should have been the one who's sick." She wriggled her fingers and spoke from the bottom of her heart.

Elly continued. "I'd rather think of myself as a patient, at least I'm just a secretary and can ask for leave. You are the head of the whole company; you are sick and you still need to work. I know you are a responsible man and addicted to work."

Alex felt his heart overwhelmed and he smiled softly and utters. "It's none of your business. Besides, I haven't had a good rest in days."

Elly still can't forgive herself. She thought that her return to the company would help him with his work but it only causes more trouble in the end.

As she felt guilty, Elly asked him out of concern. "What would you like to have at noon? Can I get you something to eat?"

"Lunch?" Alex looked at the time and realized that it was time for the lunch break. He stood up and picked up his coat. "Although you are not wrong, you should have lunch with me to make amends for your sins."

Elly didn't bother to argue and followed him as he leaves the company.

In a restaurant near the company, Alex ordered a lot of dishes, most of which were Elly's favorites.

Elly thought it was weird because it was all her favorites.

Alex smiled and explained "The menu was ordered according to my preference. It means that you and I have the same taste."

With a bang. Elly bowed her head and pretended to pick up food, avoiding his special look in the eye. Her sad voice persisted. "Go ahead and don't stare at me. Embarrassment will make me afraid to eat too much."

Alex smiled with relish. "If you like, take me to dinner next time."

She shook her head as she declined, she thought it would be a bad idea if her colleagues saw her having dinner with the director.

Before Alex got angry, he hurriedly got up and pulled her towards him. A glass of red wine was poured on Elly's head, before but now, it was poured on Alex's coat.

Elly was dumbfounded and at a loss as she heard the curse.

"Son of a bitch!" Alex scolded darkly, ignoring the dirt on his coat, he ruthlessly recognized Mr. Russel was surprised as he recognizes him.

"Is this childish behavior suitable for the boss of a big company?"

The cold voice made Mr. Russel swallow at a loss. He was frightened, but Mr. Russel tried to calm down." I just want to teach this shameless girl! She really dared to rob another woman's fiancé!"

As everyone heard Mr. Russel's words, they all looked at her and whisper.

Elly was ashamed of these contemptuous glances. She bit her lip and did not explain herself.

"Mr. Russel." Alex addresses Mr. Russel in a cold tone. "First of all, your daughter and I are not engaged. Second, I broke up with your daughter because she is an evil liar. Third, it's my freedom to be with someone I want. Please, apologize to this girl."

Alex's words were like a slap in the face for Mr. Russel's honor, and his face changed and became cynical.

Mr. Russel looked at Elly and said bitterly. "Why would I apologize to her? In your dreams! A person like her doesn't even deserve my attention. Without this woman, Emily would not have suffered."

"I broke up with Emily because she was a liar and an evil person." Alex spared no effort to attack him.

"Even if Emily has done a lot of bad things, it is because he loved you too much. Don't insult my daughter that way." Mr. Russel loudly protected his daughter.

This only made Alex felt the irony, Emily and Mr. Russel were really close, and Mr. Russel really loved to be a father to his child.

Mr. Russel stopped when he felt Alex's cold stares, and when Alex leaned closer and whispered in a low voice, Mr. Russel stopped. "It is a pity that Madeline does not receive that kind of love from her father as Emily has. Mr. Russel went pale and was distressed hearing Maddy's name. He admitted that he owed Maddy big time and now she was dead.

As Elly looked at Mr. Russel's painful face, she doesn't know why it made her very upset. She felt her chest seems heavy and her heart was empty

Elly pulled Alex's sleeve and shook her head. "There's no need. He's old. How would he apologizes to me? Let's go."

Alex smiled at her kindness, he watched Mr. Russel as he trembled in anger and warned. "I hired a private investigator. If you are planning to get my company into trouble this time. I won't give up easily. You'd better focus your attention on the work of your company."

Alex coldly held Elly's hands and walked out of the restaurant as he completely ignored Mr. Russel's reaction.

Mr. Russel was startled by his warning and he always felt that his brother Rick was plotting.

As soon as he left the restaurant, Elly stretched out her hand and said gratefully. "Thank you for protecting me. If that glass of wine were spilled on my head again, it would be very embarrassing."

Alex regretted that he had warmed up when he held out his hand and watched her remain silent. Elly went on hesitantly. "But do you talk too hard to Mr. Russel? You and Emily were lovers. If she heard your words, she will be very sad."

Elly did not realize that there was a sour light in her eyes when she mentioned Emily. Alex saw it, he said simply." What happened between us is not as simple as you think."

Suddenly with a headache and dazzling, Alex shook her hand and commanded, "Elly, call a cab and take me home.
