Chapter 67: Chapter 67
Chapter 69 The Ease of the Night
Sarah's explanation was not expected by John. He underestimated her.
"I was in such a hurry" Mrs. Elliot held Sarah's hand and gently squeezed it, and continued "Sarah, I won't put pressure on you but you have to make a decision, soon. The both of you can be engaged and plan your wedding next year. I will let you and my son grow more feelings for each other." Mrs. Elliot insisted.
Mrs. Elliot wanted to hold her grandson as soon as possible so she would not lose her dear future daughter-in-law, Sarah. "Oh please, Sarah, I want to have my grandson as soon as possible"
Sarah's face when red went she heard Mrs. Elliot pleads.
Mrs. Elliot continued to persuade Sarah. "You are still young, my dear. You should already have settled to my dear son. You know, everyone's patience is limited, if you will not get married, one day the chances might leave you"
Sarah briefly answered, "Don't Worry, I'll hold on to John but I am very sorry that I am not yet ready for engagement, please, give me more time." She gave a sincere expression. with some pleading in her eyes, Mrs. Elliot could not bear to persuade her more and nodded gently.
John immediately stood up and stopped her mom when he noticed that she was ready to talk nonsense again. "Aren't we supposed to eat dinner? If we keep on talking, the food will get cold already."
After the meal, Mrs. Elliot reminded John to bring Sarah home safely.
On their way to Sarah's home, John asked Sarah. "Why are you helping me? You know why we can't be engaged."
Sarah smiled and said, "I know, I don't want to be engaged to you not just because you don't want to but it's because I have dignity, too. Besides, I like things went smoothly without any problem."
John never wanted to hurt Sarah but he unintentionally made her heartache. Sarah doesn't need his apologies because it was all her idea as well.
"I know your mom does not accept Elly but your behavior towards her will only make her more disgusted to Elly, and the feud between them will become more intolerable" Sarah utters.
John listened to her silently without a hint of what she really meant.
"You should let her see Elly's sincerity instead of blindly going against her will. Can't you see it? Whenever your mom mentioned Elly, she couldn't control her emotions"
John was startled by Sarah's delicacy.
"If you really care for your mother, you should also consider her opinions whether it approves yours or not. Your mother was just being a mother" She sighed and ended her opinion.
John suddenly realized it when he heard Sarah's persuasion. He asked curiously "Why did you help me?"
Sarah laughed it off and said, "Why do you care so much?"
John secretly thanked her for her preached and answered naturally. "If I knew, I would be honest, we can be with each other."
Sarah looked at him, plucked up courage, and asked questions. "So, if you met me first, would fall in love with me?"
A simple question panicked John.
Sarah continued to speak as if she didn't say John's reaction. "Would you give me the love that you have for Elly?"
John realized something at that moment. He looked at Sarah and his heart was filled with remorse. He wanted to say something, but he couldn't.
Sarah hid her disappointment when she saw his reaction. She immediately forced a smile to comfort herself and spoke. "Well, I'm just asking, you don't have to worry."
When Sarah saw that they were at the end of the alley "You can stop here. I want to go to work alone.
John calculated the way back to Sarah's house and stopped the car. The air between the two became muggy. Sarah got off of the car and waved at John and smiled "Take care, Goodbye"
"Be careful!" John said and drove away.
As she looked at John's car, Sarah felt unbearable loneliness and disappointment, she felt that she was about to cry when she suddenly sniffed.
Maybe Mrs. Elliot was right. If she didn't get John to stick with her, she would lose him. However, Sarah doesn't want to overwhelm their relationship. After all, the relationship that they have was merely a contract.
At first, both of them agreed to act like a couple in order to please their families. Later, due to their more communication with each other, Sarah gradually fell in love with John. Even his loyalty to Elly made her jealous, and she was just sorry for herself because it isn't for her.
At this time, the phone vibrated, and saw the text message on the screen. Sarah suddenly burst into tears as soon as she read it.
This is a message was from John, he used only one simple word: Yes.

In Hargreaves' building, Alex also compares important data in front of a computer. A glittering knock resounded throughout the room.
After clicking on the last number, Alex stood up and stretched out his body. He knew that he was the only one left to work overtime in the whole company now.
A faint light flashed through the office curtains in his eyes and his heart trembled and hurriedly pushed the office door open.
In the dim light, a sleeping face stood wearily on the table. It was Elly, the "little secretary" who was constantly driven away by him today, the one who worked overtime with him until late at night.
He came over and tied her hair on her forehead in a low voice. "My attitude warmed you today."
Elly was still asleep and whispered a word in her ear.
He took off his coat, put it carefully over her shoulder, bent down and closed down the bent curtain, and then left.
He made a cup of coffee and felt disgusted as it was not as delicious as Elly's coffee, so he went back to his office and went back to work. He was thinking that the whole company had sunk into darkness and that Elly was still working side by side with him, Alex saw the rapid progress of Elly and her work efficiency.
The next day, Elly woke up again by the cleaner and he asked "Elly, have you been working overtime all night? Am I interrupting your sleep?"
"No, it's fine, I'm awake, I just closed my eyes for a while" Elly quickly denied it to the point that she dropped a coat on her shoulder.
As she saw the familiar coat and Elly was surprised. She looked at the office to look for Alex.
She carefully pushed the door to put the jacket secretly, she found Alex was leaning against his chair and sleeping.
Elly was startled because she also spent the night in the office. She didn't want to disturb him so she quietly closed the door. Alex suddenly opened his eyes and his hoarse voice sounded. "What happened?"
Elly walked slowly into the room and laughed softly. "Thank you!" as she reached the jacket to him.
Alex stared at her, his eyes were careless and silent. He was as cold to her as he was yesterday and she was a little disappointed.
Elly repeated patiently. "Sir, thanks for the jacket! I'm afraid I'll catch a cold if it is not for you."
There was no response and his face was cold and stiff. Elly felt angry, she quickly approached and plunged his coat into Alex's chest.
Alex's hand was still coldly on the handrail, did not take the initiative to pick up, and dropped his coat on the ground. Elly's eyes went red, she felt hurt and turned away from the room in disappointment.
The moment the door closed, Alex finally couldn't help it. He put his hand over his mouth, he coughed and turned blue.
He reached out and touched his forehead. Alex laughed at himself. Yesterday he really overestimated his body's resistance.
He picked up the phone on the table and hurriedly called Secretary Leon in a tired tone. "I have a fever. Come to my office."
