Chapter 127: Chapter 127
Chapter 129: Being a Girlfriend
Elly did have to admit that she was very lucky to meet Mr. Rome.
When she fled unaccompanied and aimlessly, Mr. Rome approached her in the dark as a guide, leading her out of the abyss of resentment and helping her yearn for a bright life again.
He once told her, "You should never let yourself fall, until you avenge John.
She knew that Emily was not the only one responsible for John's death, and that there must be an accomplice or mastermind pulling the strings. Elly wants to find out the truth, so that all involved with the killing of John Elliot will be punished in accordance with the law.
She clearly knew what caused the death of John.
Looking at the faint smile on the face of Elly, Mr. Rome could not help but wonder, "After not seeing him for a year, you weren't phased by it?"
"Love is the most difficult to let go, not a problem that time can solve. He was very careful and always manipulative. Sometimes, a moment of hatred blinds the eyes and prevents people from letting things go."
Elly shook her head firmly and continued. "I don't love him anymore, and the meaning of my return and appearing in front of him on purpose is revenge."
Although Elly insisted that Mr. Rome had a place in her heart, she did not say it. After a while, he smiled and encouraged her. "No matter what you decide, I will support it."
"Thank you!" Her statement was as heartfelt as Elly could go. Without Mr. Rome, she would not have been in the place she is today and would not have had her smooth and reasonable encounter with Alex.
Mr. Rome did not refuse her thank you, but he also planted a seed in her head tactically. "If you want to thank me, please express it with action."
"What do you want me to do Mr. Rome? You caught me off guard there."
"It's a very simple thing. You be my girlfriend, my lover."
"Wait, are you joking?" Elly was so surprised that her chin was about to fall off and had a look of uncertainty.
"No, no! It's not a joke. I promise you. What are you afraid of? I'm not asking you to love me. You just have to play my lover." Mr. Rome explained anxiously.
"Well, I'm asking you this to prove my Dad wrong and make an impression whenever I go back home."
Mr. Rome frowned at the mention of this matter. "My father is always worrying about how I live my life, which is very annoying. I am urged to bring a girlfriend home every day. I'm always making a mental list of the girls I should date, some of them who are even the daughters of my good friends."
Elly tried to read the truth in his eyes, then covered his mouth and smiled. "Does a person like you, Mr. Rome, still have to ask for an introduction?"
Elly also commented that although Mr. Rome is not young, he is still very charming. He has the mature, calm nature of a real man. There are many women in the company who like him and aren't blind to who he is.
Mr. Rome looked helpless. "My father looks at extraordinary people. He doesn't like ordinary girls and doesn't want a girl who isn't self-respecting and has a weak character. He needs a perfect combination of a girl who is opposite of those three. Should I get married, too? I don't even want to get married."
"Do you want me to pretend, knowing that your lover is lying to you?" Elly said it so bluntly that Mr. Rome scratched his head clearly.
"It's not exactly lying. You'll help me focus on my work, we won't waste our time on unnecessary dates, and my father won't be worrisome and bothering. Isn't that a good idea for both of our sides?"
Elly understood that Mr. Rome's words were bold and exaggerated. She felt that as long as she put on airs and helped her benefactor, she would not need to talk nonsense.
She nodded in agreement. "Okay, fine. I'll help you."
"Great!" Mr. Rome exclaimed quickly. "You go back to work, and once we finish, we'll head home for a home-cooked meal."
"Today?"
"Yeah, let's try to finish early, though."
Elly never met Mr. Rome's father, but he was often mentioned by him before. She personally found his father not too difficult to deal with.
Elly was very busy, working after her colleagues had already clocked out. There was a shining shadow in front of her summer decorated office table, and as soon as she looked up, she saw Mr. Rome's smiling eyes. "My model employee, it's time to get off work."
Elly continued to look down at the computer screen. "Wait a minute, as soon as I finish reading this document..."
Before she was finished talking, the computer blacked out from Mr. Rome's orders. "I'm the boss. I'm ordering you to get off work right now."
Elly glared at him. Fortunately, the important documents had been saved, and the ones she was reading she could get done tomorrow.
The "couple" walked into the elevator and went in side by side.
Opposite of the company's building, a black Jeep was parked by the side of the road. In the car, Alex put his hand in front of the window to wipe his cigarette's ash and blew away the white smoke. His eyes were fixed on the door of the building, waiting for any figure to appear.
Alex sat and waited for more than thirty minutes. Many people in the company came out, but there was no sign of who he was truly waiting for.
After lighting almost all the cigarettes, the one who he was waiting for finally appeared. Alex was going to pull the car over there, but saw other people walking up and down behind her.
He saw Elly smiling and chatting with a man, while the taxi-hailing company staff came to the two. They bowed their heads and respectfully handed over the key to the man. He willingly opened the car door for Elly, like a gentleman. Alex was in question and confused.
Alex knows that this man is the president of Saint Schim. No wonder Elly is working in the position of Design Director, probably because of the praise from the boss. Of course, Alex did not forget that he had seen her hand-drawn blueprints. Elly's talent was not forged, but jealousy blurred reason, and Alex did not want to admit her true nature.
Thinking of this, Alex clapped hammer-fisted the steering wheel and puffed his chest. He searched for her for a year, and she fell in love again.
His hands clasped and the joy of reunion disappeared instantly. When his feelings became food for thought, he finally felt deeply disappointed.
Elly sat in Mr. Rome's car and asked questions. "Do you want to bring a gift home? I don't want to go there empty-handed, is that okay? Didn't you say you were a smart man? Is our prepared plan flawed? I may not be the right one for your Father, but you still have to listen to him."
"You ask a lot of questions as if it's someone else's business, not yours."
Mr. Rome was dismissive and trusted her more than Elly trusted herself. "I'm sure you'll make my father like you. Elly, you probably don't know this, but I think you would be an amazing wife and a great mother.
Elly was startled and smiled from ear to ear.
"What do you mean by a good wife and mother? Do you think I'm the kind of woman who'd wander around in the kitchen as a housewife?"
Mr. Rome found that he had dug himself in a hole and hastened to explain. "I mean, my father doesn't know you, your gentle character looks like one of a good wife and mother. My father has to like you as much as I do."
Elly bit her lip in excitement and smiled, just as she looked back at him. Mr. Rome added, "Well, anyway. Elly, I mean, honey, the Rome family lives far away from the city. My father is a person who loves stillness, nature and growing all kinds of flowers. I just bought a house in the suburbs, which suits my Dad very much."
As soon as the car stopped at the door of the house, Elly smelled the pure chilled smell of nature. Looking at the house, there is a wall of kapok flowers, dotted with beautiful buds. The sense of space is filled with an all-natural energy, where people are filled with happiness.
Seeing Elly's excited eyes, Mr. Rome could not help but laugh, "I knew you would enjoy a place like this."
Elly expressed her love and praised, "This view is really beautiful. I feel like I've purified my soul and can even taste it."
"I praise your beauty." Mr. Rome smiled from ear to ear, and his humorous voice did not disgust her.
Elly and Mr. Rome had smiles on their face when entering the house, as the housekeeper greeted them in an instant.
"Master, Miss Leila."
Elly was surprised. The housekeeper called her "name." She looked at Mr. Rome unconsciously and smiled helplessly at him. She immediately understood. He was sure that she wouldn't refuse, so he informed his family in advance.
Instead of being angry at the calculated moves, Elly turned her eyes to Mr. Rome then smiled politely at the housekeeper. The Rome family home was small, not luxurious, but all their furniture was nice and expensive. They are as simple and elegant as ordinary families. The relaxed, unrestrained atmosphere and natural aroma made Elly squint her eyes in the setting.
Following this came a question from Mr. Rome. "Where's my Dad?"
"The boss and his friends are fishing in the local pond." said the housekeeper.
"Hmm? Fishing?" Mr. Rome frowned and seated Elly on the sofa to explain. "I'm afraid you won't see my father until dinner. Once he goes fishing, my father won't go home willingly until the fish take the bait."
