Chapter 126: Chapter 126

Chapter 128: Reasons for Return

Moaning and groaning, Alex punched on the table, while his ferocious face and eyes looked right at Elly's.

She was not intimidated by his rude attitude, her spirit was unwavering, and her mindset was unchallenged.

The loudness of their confrontation made the people in the coffee shop take a curious look, and Gerald quickly pulled on Alex's shirt to remind him.

"Well then, we should get back to work."

Alex sat back down onto his chair, his eyes still on Leila, and he wanted to see how long she can keep this act going.

Elly did not mind his keen eyes and suddenly pushed the plan in front of Gerald. "This is our advertising plan. You can take a look at it. If you have any questions or concerns, I hope you will raise them as soon as possible."

"Thank you very much." Gerald said politely, holding the fast-reading material with his eyes gradually showing his appreciation. He kindly gave the document to Alex. Alex wisely returned a presidential look with composure.

He looked at Elly again without the slightest shock. Gerald put on his coat and repeated in a low voice, "Overall, I think it's a good plan. You should pay attention to it and don't embarrass yourself."

Alex seemed startled from a daydream and managed to hold the material in his hand. Unconsciously, he flipped through it, his face gradually changing, and looked up at Leila while expressing his surprise. "Did you write it yourself?"

"Yes, sir." Elly smiled. "Do you have any questions?"

Alex shook his head, not dissatisfied, but with disbelief.

It turned out that Elly had a lot of talent that has been left undiscovered, and at that moment he was greatly surprised by his change of feelings.

Alex looked at the entire plans and graphs to make sure he didn't leave out any details, then put down the file. "I agree with the plan, and to do it your way."

Elly never guessed the results, and she smiled politely and confidently. "Thank you, Mr. Hargreaves, for your trust in our company. I absolutely live up your trust."

Alex felt uncomfortable with her showering of polite treatment. When he wanted to speak, he was stopped by Gerald.

"After all this, sir, it suddenly occurred to me that you had an appointment with Director Benjamin this afternoon. We should leave early."

"Benjamin?" Alex reacted slowly and did not recognize Gerald's signal.

Without consulting Alex, Gerald told Leila face to face, "Excuse me, Miss Leila, our President has some important meetings. We are extremely busy, but we were satisfied with the plan. You are in charge of advertising for this project, and you have every right to make decisions."

Elly was a little surprised at the quick decision made by Gerald, but she nodded in agreement.

Gerald smiled and said goodbye, pulling Alex away. As soon as Alex left the cafe, he woke up from his shocked state and couldn't take his angry eyes off Gerald. "Who told you to make your own decision? Don't you realize that's Elly? Damn it, why Leila?"

"Of course, I know who she is." Gerald knew about Elly. He had worked in the company for so long that he's obviously not strangers with Alex.

"Look, Elly doesn't want to be recognized for reasons we don't know. She won't admit it. Don't be in a hurry. No matter who she says she is, if we reveal the truth soon, she might disappear again." Gerald paused for a few seconds and finished his calculated thoughts. "I hope you will not force her to act so carefully. If so, Elly will no longer be in charge of this advertising contract."

Gerald's reminder hit Alex with what he feared the most: Elly's escape. With his serious face, looking up and down the streets, Alex swore to himself. "Yes, now that the project is given to her, at least I won't be afraid that she will run away again."

Back in the cafe, Elly's eyes had a cold look. She came back this time, not for a fresh start, but for vengeance. All those who hurt John must pay the price.

After coming back, the first thing Elly did was to find Emily.

A year ago, what happened with John was enough to put Emily in prison, but no one expected she would be exempted from completing her sentence due to mental illness.

The defense lawyer had enough evidence to prove her case and completely denied her guilt.

Since then, Emily's whereabouts have been unknown, all the search information has been cut off, and it seems she has disappeared from the world like Elly. Tightly hidden, with no trace left behind.

When Alex returned to Hargreaves Company, Brandon found something wrong with him.

Sometimes he was silent. Sometimes he would grin at the corners of his mouth or meditate silently. Several times he looked out of his mind when his subordinates reported on their work.

Brandon could not help but raise a concern. "Alex."

Alex frowned, raised his head up and frowned again. "What happened?"

"You've been out of your mind all afternoon. What's the matter? How was the project meeting today? Is the plan offered by the other party all right?"

"Saint Schim is a well-known advertising company, and it was automatically no problem to choose their plan." Alex answered calmly.

"If there is no problem, I put all the responsibility on them to get the job done."

Brandon nodded in response, affirming that Alex was not telling the truth and felt something was wrong. Although he did not make a clear inquiry, he felt that he should pay more attention to the partnership with the other company.

As soon as she got out of the elevator, Elly was stopped by her assistant. "Miss Leila, Chairman Rome is looking for you."

"Thank you. Thank you." Elly walked to the chairman's office with a smile. On the way, many staff members greeted her kindly.

She gently knocked on the office door and opened it when she heard the response from him inside. "Hello Mr. Rome, are you looking for me?"

Realizing that the person at the door was Elly, Mr. Rome put down his pen. His voice was full of lamentation. "Coming into my office without knocking? What happened to obeying the rules?"

Elly giggled at his corny joke, went to the tea table in the middle of the room, and sat down to pour her own tea. "Richard said you wanted to see me. What's the emergency?"

"You're going to see the people from the Operations Department today, aren't you? I wonder if everything is alright?"

Elly nodded calmly, drank her cup of tea and sighed with a mouthful of satisfaction. "The President of Hargreaves Company always sends you the brand of tea you like, right? Well, they put me in charge of the project."

"Alexis Hargreaves?" Mr. Rome laughed and picked up his teacup with his slender hands to honor Elly's confident expression. "It seems that Mr. Hargreaves trusts you."

Elly laughed but didn't say a word.

Mr. Rome inserted his pen into a tube and secretly watched her face, jokingly asking, "Doesn't he recognize you?" In the past year, except for the change of her temperament, her appearance and features changed, looking younger than before. However, her distinct character is still the same.

Elly watched Mr. Rome helplessly, shrugging her shoulders after being teased. "He recognized me. I didn't know him. But..." She lengthened her voice, pressed her hand on her face, and spoke slowly with a faint laugh she tried to hold in. "The man fell for the act, and he trusted me very quickly."

Mr. Rome nodded with praise.

"Everything so far is going according to plan." said Elly softly.

"That's good." Looking at Elly's complacent smile, Mr. Rome narrowed his eyes slightly and some bad thoughts developed in his head. "What does that make me? Am I a pawn in your plan?"

"No, no!" Elly looked up at her Chairman with grateful eyes. "After it's all said and done, you gave me a new life."

A year ago, when Alex was looking for her everywhere, she ran into Mr. Rome. He helped her withhold information, changed her identity, and offered her the job she currently has.

At first, she didn't trust Mr. Rome, so she got to know him under her new alias: Leila. After knowing each other for a while, Elly found out that he is the president of Saint Schim. Instead of being like every other arrogant boss sitting in the big fancy chair, he was very friendly, which made her think of John all the time.

That's when she gained trust in him and told him about her past and even future plans.

With the help of Mr. Rome, she slowly climbed to the management position of the company with her own strength. She couldn't have been more grateful towards him.
