Chapter 125: Chapter 125
Chapter 127: New Identity
Elly's cold tone annoyed Alex, but he didn't show it. He simply gave her a command. "Get up!"
Elly did not respond.
"In my relationship with John, he gave more than I did, but that's him. You don't owe him, you don't have to apologize to him and let alone kneel for him. Stand up!"
Seeing that she only saw him as a talking head, Alex reached out and pulled her. Elly slapped him hard.
"I don't need you to care about me."
Her voice was calm and cold, and her attitude changed to the way she used to be.
Alex was filled with anger and shouted. "What do you think you owe him in this way? Or do you think John would feel better if he knew you were on your knees? I won't torture myself thinking I owe him. No one owes him anything emotionally, just because he loved us."
Elly only glanced at Alex and continued to stare at the door. She neither wanted to repay respects, nor did she want John to forgive her. If she knelt, her emotions wouldn't break down even more.
Alex was born with a bad temper and refused to listen to her, building up anger. He stretched his arm out under her armpits and tried to pick her up. Elly pushed and struggled, dragging herself but still refusing to get up.
Elly has not eaten since she ran out of the wedding hall. She has endured a lot of psychological trauma one after another. No matter how strong her body is, she can no longer hold up with a spirit of steel.
Her eyes were shrouded in endless darkness, and she desperately tried to get rid of it, but her body was unstable and getting weaker in Alex's perspective.
"Elly!" Alex screamed, hugging and carrying her back to the ward.
Elly slept very long this time, as her body just didn't have strength anymore. Sleep causes the body's function to repair itself and readjust to normalcy, which is what she needs the most.
As time went by, everything had to go on while she slept soundly. Elly didn't show at John's funeral. His body was cremated, and the ashes were given to his fiancée, Sarah. She regarded Grandma Elliot as her own mother and wanted to go abroad to take care of her.
When Elly wakes up, it would be known that things are settled. At first it was difficult for her to accept, always staring blankly at the ceiling as if she were analyzing the truth of the news, but then Elly just said nothing and put a smile on her face.
The doctor visited and suggested further monitoring. She showed signs of depression. Alex was worried that she would never laugh again.
On the first day of the week, Brandon came to Elly's ward. He went into the room and approached her. She didn't respond, and her eyes were always wandering outside the window.
"Are you always this quiet?"
Elly turned and looked around for his voice. Brandon smiled from ear to ear. "You just don't want to talk, but you're not an idiot, are you? So, what I'm saying right now, are you listening, or do you understand?
"No one promises that."
Brandon didn't give up, as he said, "You suspect Alex, don't you? I'm going to tell you the truth today."
Brandon deliberately approached Elly and looked excitedly at her stiff vigilance. "I saw Alex give the car keys to Emily, and sure enough hinted that he was going to help Emily run over John."
Brandon's words were the last blow to Elly's meager amount of confidence. Although she trusted Alex, she still believed that John's death was caused by Emily's car accident. She didn't think it had anything to do with Alex.
"Do you think John died in a car accident?"
She stopped looking out the window and set eyes on Brandon, staring quickly. "What do you mean? What does this have to do with Alex?"
Brandon did not beat around the bush and got to the point. "I overheard the doctor say that John died suddenly because someone had pulled out the medical equipment on purpose. In fact, he went through a dangerous experience and still did not die."
Elly didn't want to be fooled and kept staring at Brandon's face.
He shrugged his shoulders. "But I'm not sure, it's just a hospital rumor, believe it or not. Anyway, I've told you everything I know, and I'm guessing you have feelings of judgement in your mind.
Without paying attention, he turned around and walked out the door, only to be asked by Elly. "Aren't you a good friend of Alex? Why are you telling me this?"
Elly frowned. She couldn't believe him. He's a friend, but instead of covering for him, he betrays him. Brandon's a terrible person.
Brandon looked calm, yet sarcastic by the look of his face. "Don't think he likes you. Your future is the same as Emily."
He paused for a few seconds, unable to add more. He didn't want to add insult to injury.
Watching Brandon leave the room, Elly couldn't help but think about Emily's confession and the alleged facts told by him. This threw her brain into confusion.
In the memories she found, it is an undeniable fact that Alex did not love her, and that she had been a substitute for his confusion and loneliness. Now she's just something that has been left in the lost and found. He wanted to be king through control and deceit. Alex wanted everything to be overshadowed by the balance in order to be satisfied.
Brandon was right. At first, Emily liked Alex so much that he was able to send her to prison himself. All his promises given were hypocritical.
It turns out that even if she starts all over again, she still can't escape Alex's trap, and the worst thing is that she dragged John along and let him die unjustly.
"I'm so sorry, John Elliot. I owe you." Elly went into tears. A decision was made in the blink of an eye.
When Alex sent Kitten to the hospital to visit Elly, there was no one in the ward.
She left without contacting anyone.
Everyone searched frantically all over the city, but the search for Elly was like looking for a needle in a haystack. No news from her, no trace, as if she vanished from the world.
They thought they would reunite with her, but they'd always go back to square one.
A year has passed.
Alex works with a top advertising company and an appointment partner to confirm the product, requiring another company, Nvidia, to achieve their goals.
In the early afternoon, Alex and his secretary, Gerald, waited together at an agreed cafe. It annoys Alex that who they're meeting is half an hour late, and he hates waiting. Not to mention that after waiting for such a long time, Alex's conservative concept of time is being tested to new heights.
Just as Gerald packed up their materials ready to leave the table, a surprising voice sounded around the two people.
Their impatience from half an hour ago seemed to have faded away.
The familiar but estranged person raised their head fast and locked eyes.
The past days of purity were now filled with cold, unseen serenity. A pair of strange eyes were half unknown, and half familiar.
Alex was frozen, his hands and feet were numb, and only opened his mouth to say the name that had plagued him for a year. "Elly..."
Gerald was also shocked. He did not expect that everyone would meet again under such circumstances. The person who originally appointed the meeting's purpose was Elly. "Are you the head of the company's advertising project?"
"Elly, where have you been this entire year? Boss has gone crazy looking for you. The whole city was destroyed by him, but still, there was no hope." The faint voice sounded with a hint of complaint from Gerald.
Elly did not retort and sat opposite of the two, with a slight smile on her face. "Oh yeah? It turns out that Alexis here, sometimes spends a lot of time and energy looking for a woman."
Her estranged indifference pained Alex gloomily. He leaned forward slightly and called her name. "Elly..."
Elly frowned. "People always mistake me for the wrong person. I'm not the Elly you say I am. My name is Leila. I'm in charge of the project."
"Leila?" Alex repeated the name ironically. "Do you think you are an actor in a movie? Elly, then Leila, what name do you want to change it to next time?"
Elly did not answer and calmly pushed a document in front of her.
"I don't have time to talk to you about whatever you're saying. This is the advertisement that our company wants to cooperate with. The head office will not mislead and deceive anyone who is linked to each other. We meet directly to express our opinions and we will discuss them."
"Meet?" The two asked simultaneously, nodding carefully and raising their voice. "Considering me, I am still not satisfied with the name you gave us."
Elly laughed politely. She blinked and her eyes became familiar and refreshing. "All in all, your request is too much, this is my privacy, your request is too unreasonable."
"What about me?" Alex suddenly stood up, staggered across the table and bent over to confront her. "Does it make sense that you left without saying a word that day? I haven't seen any messages in a year. Now, an identity fraud is in front of me. Elly, what should I do? Be satisfied and ignore it?"
"Well, I don't know what you're talking about. Many people look the same. I think you have the wrong person." Elly paused for a few seconds, then laughed. She looked straight into Alex's eagle eyes and emphasized word for word, "I am not Elly. I am seriously Leila."
