Chapter 124: Chapter 124
Chapter 126: Memory Recovery
Elly was so surprised that she slapped him in the face. He lied.
Her eyes were red and the corners of her mouth were frowning. She no longer struggled and went into Alex's warm embrace. "You're lying to me, aren't you? You got out of the ICU, right? Answer me. Please be right."
Afterwards, Alex leaned over and kissed her forehead and felt the shock again. He thought she was cold from the infusion, so he wrapped a thick blanket around her.
"John, he's... I did leave."
Alex knew that hearing the news would be terrible for Elly- a death more serious than her father's.
In Elly's meager memory, John is her real relative. Alex knew it would be hard for her to accept, but he couldn't hide the truth without feeling guilt.
He bent down, rubbed his cheek against her face and spoke softly, word for word saying, "But I'm still here, and I'll always be here for you!"
Elly closed her eyes with tears running down her cheeks, warmth on their faces. Alex was getting her tears onto his face and lips.
She whispered sadly, "Yeah, Alex."
All Elly felt was weakness. Under the gentle comfort of Alex, she slowly fell asleep. He sat quietly beside her, while trying to fall asleep, too.
Alex was startled by the crazy vibration from his mobile phone. He looked at the name of the caller on the screen and hesitated for a few seconds. He then leaned over and kissed Elly on the forehead, quickly leaving the room.
When the door closed, the sleeping Elly suddenly opened her eyes. Through the redness, the cold light stung deeper than the bottom of a valley.
John's death gave her even more pain, like a bullet deep into her skull, heavily awakening her lost memory.
Elly now remembered everything, including her humble feelings for Alex and the cause of her car accident. He forced her to give birth to a child and asked her to give the baby to Emily for upbringing.
In order to recall her past, Elly now began to believe Emily's words.
"She's right. Alex has always wanted control. Control over the lives of the people around him. He will not take any means to achieve his goal, including murder. To him, he is just a shell of what he once was, but now he has found himself again."
Elly grinned and smiled bitterly while thinking to herself.
Heard the door opening, she immediately shut her eyes and pretended to be asleep. The sound of shoes rushed to the side of the bed, and Alex's whispers fell softly into her ear.
"There's something urgent at work. Get a good night's sleep. I'll be back soon."
He paused, breathing without touching her ear, and gently kissed her forehead.
Elly was pretending to sleep, even though she was fidgeting around. Her heart was cold iron, but she wasn't as emotional as she was earlier.
The footsteps faded away, the door closed again, and the room became silent. With her eyebrows moving, Elly slowly opened her eyes, yet remained motionless inside.
Looking at the white ceiling and clinging to the bed with the side of her hand, Elly was slowly filling with hatred.
Her hoarse voice and red eyes make her look abnormal now, as if she were trying to exploit others.
Elly sat up and picked up a needle with her hands. She suddenly pulled it out, not caring about the blood on the needle. She raised her eyes and watched the kettle shake on the shelf, fast and accurate. She stood up and smashed the items against the wall. Glass and water splashed all over the place.
Being covered in water, Elly looked for a change of clothes in the wardrobe. She snickered at the thought of Alex's caution and over-cleanliness, and although she was in a hospital, the VIP Room seemed as comfortable as home.
While Alex returned to his company, Elly left the ward. When she walked out of the door, she discovered that her room was on the same floor as John's, distanced at both ends of the corridor.
She hurried to John's room. Before leaving, she saw Mrs. Elliot sitting outside, crying miserably.
Mrs. Elliot's cry was full of sadness. Elly was so distressed that she felt like she had a lump in her throat and could not say a word out of her breathless mouth.
It was difficult for Elly to process what she was witnessing.
Wen's voice was no longer what it used to be, broken by the sight of John left unresponsive. She realized that someone was standing in front of her. When she figured out it was Elly, Mrs. Elliot's eyes filled with hatred.
Mrs. Elliot stood up and refused to let her speak, then slapped her in the face. The impact she felt on her face, with such a powerful force, made Elly furious and dizzy.
"Why are you here?" Mrs. Elliot shouted. "Why didn't you let John go? Just because I don't like you, you deliberately stole John to get back at me, didn't you?"
Elly did not say a word but bowed her head silently and had no intentions of complaining. Mrs. Elliot was getting more and more disgusted by Elly's weak silence. The second slap, the third slap, all demeaning to her face.
"John loved you and he gave everything to you. He even sacrificed his life for you. Are you satisfied now? Huh?" The tears due to John's fate ran down her face and hatred was revealed in every word she said.
It was not until she was untenable, falling on the green chair in the hallway, that she stopped panting.
Mrs. Elliot's red palms and cheeks were bruised and the swollen corners of Elly's mouth were not equally as painful as death.
Elly put her hands on the chair and stood up with willpower and strength, keeping her head down. She knew that Mrs. Elliot despised her and could not even forgive herself.
Every word mentioned of John cut her heart in half, as if it were also cracked and made blood flow out of her body. The last thing that breaks a heart is emptiness.
Mrs. Elliot's mood became further distraught. She excitedly shook Elly's hand and her tone changed from abusive to begging. "Please, can you give me back my baby boy? I will not disturb your relationship now. I just want to make him healthy again. Elly, give me back John."
Bang! Sarah heard the noise, opened the door, saw the scene in front of her and immediately pulled Mrs. Elliot out.
Sarah put away a soulless puppet in Elly and did not want to scold her.
Sarah hugged her and tried to persuade her. "John is gone. We should keep him safe and sound."
Mrs. Elliot gradually calmed down. Instead of looking at Elly, she shook Sarah like a child. "Get her out of here. Get her out of here! I don't want to see her."
Sarah knew that Elly would not plan to leave. She was still shocked, that's why she behaved strangely and tried to persuade Mrs. Elliot. "Auntie, you've been tired all day. Go home and have a rest. Just leave it to us, okay?"
"No, I'm not going home. I have to stay with John." Mrs. Elliot shook her head like a disgruntled child.
"Grandma will be very sad to know that you haven't eaten all day and have been with him for so long."
Mrs. Elliot was startled and believed Sarah in horror. She nodded reluctantly and obeyed cleverly. Visitors and other outsiders saw that Mrs. Elliot was so damaged and anxious about her son's death.
"When you go home, you kick her out, too. You can't let her see John. She doesn't deserve to!" Mrs. Elliot said in front of Elly.
"Alright, alright." Sarah nodded with promise.
Mrs. Elliot looked around, walked through the door for the last time, and returned home with a defeated posture.
There were only two people left outside the ward. Sarah stopped her act of calmness that she put on display. She giggled and whispered. "Elly, do you know that not long ago, John promised to Alex that he'd come back after our wedding. John said he would help me realize my dream of wearing a wedding dress. He would marry me."
Sarah poured out every sentence slightly. Fortunately, beside her was the cold wall of the hospital that supported her, which helped her gain balance and a firm foothold. "But now he's never coming back, and my dreams are shattered."
Sarah's sense of loneliness made Elly feel a sense of self-remorse. She bit her lower lip and only said four words she hasn't said for a long time, "I am so sorry."
In this situation apologizing was useless. If John returned home for her, if he ended up getting married, he would have been safe.
"I don't need your apology!" Sarah leaned against the wall and looked at Elly from top to bottom. Her eyes glared. "Which part of your body attracted John? Is there anything I didn't ask Ana to do for you? He voluntarily gave up arm treatment abroad and returned home just because he heard that you were in the hospital. Why would he pay the price for an ordinary person like you?"
"Miss. What do you mean?" Elly trembled with a shortness of breath, as if her heart skipped a beat. "Your arm. Haven't you recovered yet? Are you still in treatment?"
Elly's problem understanding made Sarah more frustrated, substituting for Mrs. Elliot earlier. "Look at you! He has done so much, but you are too stupid to know. Just accept his love."
"Please answer me seriously." Elly didn't care and she didn't mind Sarah's sarcastic voice. She hurried over and held Sarah begging.
"Is it true that you haven't had time to get settled? Do you think such a serious tragedy would take a while to heal? You always regard John as a relative, a family member. Do you really care about his death? If you pay attention, everyone can see that you can't get rid of it completely in a short period of time."
John's feelings for her was rewarded with death.
Sarah swiped her hand down and gave Elly a push. "You killed John."
As soon as the news from Sarah was revealed, Elly was knocked and staggered to the ground.
Sarah looked at Elly's pale and frozen face, knowing that both she and Mrs. Elliot are the same. The pain of loss belonged to both. Neither of them felt it less or more. This precise realization made Sarah dislike Elly even more.
Sarah asked coldly, "Do you still think you are worthy enough to see him?"
"Please..." Elly crawled to hold Sarah's leg in a kneeling position, pleading in a pitiful voice. "Please, let me see him for the last time."
Sarah kicked down Elly while she pleaded her request. Sarah quickly entered the room and closed the door on her.
Elly was depressed and weak but had the courage to kneel silently at the door of John's room. Many passing patients and nurses looked at her curiously, but no one thought anything of it.
In this life, she owed the world too much and John did not give her a chance for retribution.
Alex quickly took care of the company's work and hurried back to the hospital. The door of the open room was an empty bed, and pieces of glass were spread across the room.
He panicked, gave a low cry, and jumped outside to look for Elly. With the help of a nurse, he found her at the other end of the corridor. She was kneeling in front of John's room with her back upright.
It was suddenly dark in front of her eyes, so Elly looked up suspiciously. On the contrary, the hospital was brightly lit, but things switched for Elly as a familiar face changed from blurred to clear.
Elly asked coldly, blinking for clarity. "Why are you here?"
