Chapter 25: Chapter 25
ANGELIQUE SLOAN'S POV
I have been doubtful of Greyson's real feelings since the beginning of his story regarding his relationship with Gwynneth. But there was nothing I could do but sit beside him and listen.
"Wouldn't it sound more convincing if I told you about it with emotions?" Greyson faked a laugh, trying to dodge the assumption I made. "Didn't you see how much of a b*tch that woman was? Who would even dare to get back in a relationship with her?"
I shrugged my shoulders, unsure of how to respond. "What was the reason why the two of you broke up anyway?" I asked, as my curiosity could no longer be contained.
"I ended things with Gwynneth because of how she was living in poverty," Greyson directly answered without even thinking twice. "It's not that I'm looking down on everyone who has a low economic status. It's just that Gwynneth had been a gold digger," he defended himself before I could've attacked him.
"From the way she dressed up, I don't think she's poor, though," I murmured.
Greyson nodded as he held his chin. "I guess she found another man whom she can use to get all the luxuries."
"What if Gwynneth is literally richer now and she doesn't need to gold dig? Would you consider being in a romantic relationship with her again?" I questioned.
He slightly furrowed his eyebrows at the same time that he avoided making eye contact with me. "I've already told you countless times; I have no intention of going back to her. What's done is done," he coldly answered.
I heaved out a short sigh. "You're not answering me, Greyson. Just give me a straight yes or no, and then I won't ask anymore than that," I said.
Greyson stood from his seat as he faced me. He placed both of his hands on my shoulders, staring into my eyes as if he were staring directly into my soul.
"No. I would never consider that, Angelique. I would rather be in a serious relationship with you than consider that cr*p," he mumbled without blinking, to let me feel his sincerity.
I gave him a sweet smile as I held his hand. "Thanks for such a fine assurance, Greyson." I tiptoed to give him a kiss on his huge forehead. "That's the only kiss I can give you for now." I giggled before I paced out of his office.
"Where are you heading off to again? You've been going here and there. Aren't you going to invite me to come along with you?" Greyson consecutively asked.
"I'll be going back to the hospital to do what I was supposed to do earlier," I uttered. "I can't come there with you. That woman has surely returned to my mother's side and is trying to get comfort from her," I added to avoid any argument about how I wasn't letting him tag along with me.
Fortunately, he didn't complain any further and let me go on my way.
All of the people that I've crossed paths with have smiles on their faces. Some of them even greeted me, even though I didn't initiate one.
"It seems like I wouldn't have to go all the way back to the hospital," I whispered to myself as I caught sight of my mother in a wheelchair, who was being guided by Gwynneth. "I think humiliation doesn't exist in her vocabulary at all."
It irritates me to see that my mother treats Gwynneth like her real daughter instead of me, who should've rightfully received that kind of treatment right from my birth.
As much as I wanted to avoid eye contact with either one of them, it was too late for me. My mother saw me and even waved at me, acting as if there wasn't anything that occurred between our families.
I forced myself to approach them with a blank expression. "So you've already been discharged, huh? Even though you had no guardian," I said as I hissed.
My mother smirked at me. "I have a guardian right here," she mumbled as she pointed to Gwynneth, who was behind her and was glaring at me intently. "What are you trying to say? That I should've waited for you to return so that you could be the one to discharge me?" she laughed.
"Come on, mom..." Gwynneth grinned at me, even though she wasn't talking to me. "There's no way that Angelique could've been the one to take you out of the hospital. She has no capability to do that, right? She has no stable source of income, and most of all, she's currently hiding from everyone," she said to insult me.
"Ah, right. I forgot," my mother teamed up with Gwynneth. "By the way, Angelique, I heard from Gwyn that the two of you are pursuing Greyson."
My lips parted. I tried to hide the anger that's starting to form within my chest, which was waiting to be released into a visible rage.
"What about it?" I replied, pretending that I don't care about whoever my competitor is when it comes to love.
"Should I give Greyson some news that would either spice him up or creep him out?" my mother asked, raising one of her eyebrows as if she were telling me that I should know what she was referring to.
I stomped my right foot loudly. "Don't you dare tell him about that. I would f*cking end what was supposed to be done since that night. You should be afraid of me, and not the other way around, mom," I responded with a vexed tone. "Don't get Greyson involved unless you have a death wish."
My mother looked amused. "Why do you sound so nervous? Shouldn't that news be spread all throughout the world, and not just Greyson?" she said. "You know what? I've changed my mind. I would rather tell everyone than a single person."
My eyes widened in surprise at her threat. "What the heck do you want?"
With a smirk, my mother gestured to me to come closer, so I did. "Let me ruin your image, Angelique," she whispered, causing me to step back. "Once your image is ruined in Greyson's eyes, he wouldn't even think twice about getting back together with this sweet woman, Gwyn, behind me. I'm sure that he's just letting you stick around with him because he had no one else," she explained.
